Whenever you pronounce something in a foreign language that I speak, you do pronounce it wrong. This is an easy one to fix though... Whenever you're reading a Spanish word you can disregard the letter H, unless it's accompanied by a C as in CHavo. It's silent when spoken, but indicates emphasis on the vowel following. Nobody will notice the lack of emphasis on the vowel. They'll attribute it to your accent. The only other things you need to know in order to read Spanish correctly are: J is used as an H would be in English, sound and all. Lastly, the vowels themselves are pronounced differently by default. For example, I is pronounced as a long E (as in each), A as in father, E as in echo, O as in over, and U as in fruit. Any other pronunciation of vowels will either be proceeded with an H, or actually have a punctuation mark above them dictating what sound is made (the dot above the I being switched with the appropriate punctuation mark). This will likely help with future travels, as most of the Latin based languages follow very similar rules. Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and French. Although each language follows a slightly different set of rules (ESPECIALLY FRENCH), they're easy to pick up once you figure out one or two of them.

I want to try more varieties of bananas but it's such a risk for me. As I've gotten older I've developed a bananas intolerance. Some varieties, like the Cavendish, make it feel like I was chewing on ground glass. My mouth and throat get really itchy and about a half hour later I'm hit with stomach cramps. It's not actually dangerous for me, and I won't go into anaphylactic shock, it just makes me miserable for a couple of hours. Some varieties, like Manzano and Buro, I can eat with no problems. The real problem is I love bananas and hardly ever get to eat them since I can't eat the most common variety.
@WeirdExplorer5 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard of that. Do you know what it is in bananas that is giving you a reaction? Maybe there is a variety that won't affect you as much?
@Entiox5 жыл бұрын
@@WeirdExplorer if I remember correctly it's because of one of the compounds in the natural latex. Some varieties have a greater amount of that compound then others. I know that bananas in the AAA group, like Cavendish, Gros Michel, and several red varieties are the worst for me. But ABB group bananas, like Burro, I can usually eat without issue. Also, cooking the banana tends to break down that compound so I can eat cooked Cavendishs, but they have to be thoroughly cooked. The banana intolerance is actually fairly common and develops as you age. When I was a kid I had no problems with bananas. Then in my 20s I started getting cramps when I would eat a banana, and it's just gotten worse since then. I've known several people with the same problem, and the funny thing is we all really like bananas and hardly ever get to eat them.
@human35075 жыл бұрын
Entiox Is there a name for this allergy or for the compound? This sounds like a good thing to research in the free time :D
@WeirdExplorer5 жыл бұрын
@@Entiox Ah that's interesting... The Pitogo is in the ABB group I believe, so this one is probably okay if thats the case. I don't especially care for the burro raw, but do like them cooked.
@Entiox5 жыл бұрын
@@human3507 it's just called banana intolerance. Doing a quick look one site I checked said it's a reaction to one of the proteins being misidentified by the immune system as an invasive substance.

What I'd like to know is do these other banana varieties have about as much potassium as the Cavendish, per oz or whatever? I'm supposed to eat high potassium foods and Cavendish bananas are one of the highest you can find that are oxalate free (kidney disease so no spinach) but I've eaten so many that they make me nauseous. I'd be grateful for a new variety of banana that has all the benefits and less of the taste. Kiwis work too but the shelf life and growing season isn't anywhere near as good. You can generally get nice bananas year round because they keep so well in storage but kiwis don't keep as well.

I ordered the large box size, but still didn't get any praying hands bananas like I was so badly hoping. I did, however, manage to get something you didn't which is the big one that tastes like a cloud. I got 2 of those. I ate one so far, and it was mostly ripe and good, but the center was maybe a little greenish tasting and not cloud-like as most of the surrounding (I know some people like bananas slightly green). I'll let the 2nd rippen a little more before I try it and hopefully it will be the perfect ripe I'm looking for, but not too ripe. Anyways, looking forward to your review of the praying hands. Maybe next time I'll try to get the largest sized box and hopefully get that variety...

ThomasThe Dank_ Engine Orinoco or Burro, yes, it is the same. I'm assuming that's what I got. I wasn't thinking of marshmallow or lemon, but I will keep that in mind when I try the second one.
