The weather has reached a very emotional point today, 32*. So after a few days with a seasonal body ache I will be getting back to the driving range. Your videos have given me lots of ideas and hope to improve. All my life I have been nervous about the top of the backswing. I played golf when I was in my teens, early twenties and early forties. Now since middle August I have begun my most serious study of the golf swing (half the game) . Mid forties till mid fifties I was running fourteen marathons (13 NY & 1 Jersey Shore) now at seventy I’m tackling probably for the rest of my life golf. What has made it so very rewarding is that I have written 15,000 words on my golf swing. It makes it easier to reap the rewards from excellent coaching. Keeping the right arm straighter for longer and pressing outwards as I reach the top of the backswing will help I hope make me more confident and calm and meditative as I begin the downswing. Thanks I’m in NYC and may be able to get a few lessons in Staten Island.

best way i found to get that forward shaft lean and get more distance and taking a divot after the ball is to focus on the right arm feel or throwing it forward and pressing my right hand towards the ball. obviously there's other factors to that but it helped me big time.

👍👍Definitely something I'm going to work on. Your swing looks so much faster doing this! Do you advocate a flat left wrist at the top and transition? If so how do you make that happen? What are the benefits of flat vs cupped all else being equal?
@CogornoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Hey Max! YES on the lead wrist angle being flat at the top and in transition, but it is a bit grip dependent. The biggest benefit of a flat lead wrist is that it keeps your club face square to closed to your path, which encourages all of the good things that we all want in a golf swing. We DO NOT want the lead wrist cupping excessively as that will open our club face up and lead us into a lot of trouble. I'll link a few videos below that will guide you through this topic perfectly! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZm6f3mXeNamqZo kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWiaZ3-vq7JphsU kzbin.info/www/bejne/harbmJSjj9Gfha8 Check these out and let us know if you have any questions!

Eric, with the palm facing up in his demo doesn’t that roll the face open going back? Kind of confusing with that part of the video and how to do it right.
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey! YES but when you bend back (extend) the lead wrist that OFF SETS the face opening and should be square! More videos on that coming up!

Here’s my question. I like that opening feeling with RH going back. But isn’t that opposite of the keeping the club face square going back?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! Well you just have to make sure you don't over do it. Checkpoint would be to have the club face slightly tilted down when its first parallel to the ground. The stronger the grip the more you can do it. The weaker the opposite.
@grahamjones73714 жыл бұрын
Ive improved massively by learning to load my right arm and now it releases automatically at the right time through the ball.I load it down rather than away but that is maybe a feel.i break it down to practice it right hinge takes club to right foot but key move is loading right elbow(otherwise get floppy) which takes club to parallel.then right upper arm then right shoulder to waiters tray.I am also sad enough to hit soft balls right arm only from these positions. You might feel the club is a paint brush through impact or if you are strong/athletic you are striking a match.

Another great video Eric!! Slightly related, I've been playing around with bending my right arm more (the bicep curl way) when pitching and chipping and noticing a lot better contact sometimes. I have a tendency to bring the club too inside on pitches which causes inconsistent contact due to lack of time to reroute, so I'm thinking bending the right arm in this way is simply ensuring I take the club away outside the hands - what do ya think? Also I would love if you had more in depth pitching/chipping videos on the channel! I'm guessing they're not in demand from your audience however?

I would like to know how much swing force do you use with your trail arm. I find I am coming over the top if I use my trail arm and hand as part of my swing power. Creates pulls and fades.
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dennis! Its not so much HOW MUCH force or IF you should use it....its HOW. If you are coming over the top you have too much INTERNAL shoulder rotation with trail arm/shoulder likely. Will need more EXTERNAL rotation with trail arm/side. Thats a guess without seeing.... join www.cogornogolf.com if you dont get it sorted so you can send me your swings

I have been doing right arm only swings. I get a wierd feeling when I strike the ball solid. It's as if my arm is straight but something involuntary flings my arm forward without me doing anything to control it but swing through. The ball takes off. Does this feeling make sense? Should I have this feeling with both hands in the club? Great video as always!

Hey Eric! I'm not sure....I would need to see you doing that on video to give an specific advice there....too many variables to guess unfortunately
@davidhires74034 жыл бұрын
I’ve been working on your reverse slice technique with the club face closed in takeaway. This seems contrary to that. If I turn my right palm up during take away to do the bicep curl aren’t I opening the face instead of keeping it closed?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey David! Yes-this is contrary to that. This would not be for the golfer who struggles with the slice. That movement (palm up) was shown here as a fix for golfers who struggle too much with the opposite and pulling the right arm back. Stick with the face tilted down and curving left with the reverse slice sequence. If you slice, that is PERFECT for you!
@davidhires74034 жыл бұрын
@@CogornoGolf that would be a good distinction to make in your videos when you are deviating from instruction you’ve given in other videos. Knuckleheads like me are trying to imitate everything you do in every video. It would be good to know from you what to ignore if we are working on something else you have taught in previous videos. Or if you could clearly communicate this instruction is not for the golfer that does x or y. That this is only for the golfer that does z. Or something like that. I’ll keep working on my closed face in the take away.

But isnt this a lot different from what you usually teach and should lead to a more upright face at P2? Not criticising the message in the video, but it was a little confusing. But at the same time I often been struggling to feel when its a good time to add the folding of the right arm. But would it be fair to say that this new move is more there to create more lag in the downswing?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mange! This is DEFINITELy different than what I normally say. Keep in mind the following 1. I suggest face more tilted down BECAUSE I see 95% of people ALREADY too open. 2. JT is only suggesting some MINOR supination to get the face more neutral SO THAT its easer to keep training elbow in front IF IT gets too far behind.

How does the right hand in this video match up with your recommendation for your right hand to be rotated down?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey John! I would say in previous videos when I express "twisting the face" and right palm more down thats GREAT for those who normally go to open. I would error on TOO closed or right palm down....SO LONG AS your right arm doesn't pull behind you. That was the main point JT was expressing with the supination/pronation part and how it plays a role with the arm positioning. You dont really want TOO much of either. Middle ground. Have to record to confirm like everything else
