Amazing free tips. People just have to put aside the ego. I think in my time teaching, too many people are ego driven, or not motivated/positive enough. I used this same theory of "throwing something". I compared it to a clementine being gripped in the right hand and throwing it down a hallway. Thanks for the tips, for the ones who will truly appreciate their value. Cheers -Johnny

I'm a right handed golfer but a left handed dominant golfer and I do my golf release from my left arm and left hand rotation. By the way I am creating a nice divot on most of my iron shot and I hit the ball straight all the time and far because of the cocking/uncocking action and hand rotation release. This type of left hand rotation in a very fast action created a centrifugal force rotation of the body in action.

Everyone might want to put a club in hand and try a 'twirl waggle as Martin Hull did solely with his hands and wrist on the end of this video. Twirling the club head counterclockwise in a circular fashion in front of you as Jack Nicklaus did and then swinging the club back a forth at the bottom of your arc just before you swing; works wonders! Jack did this to assume the proper grip pressure for himself; to loosen up his forearms; and to feel the weight of his club head. Try the twirl waggle as Jack once recommended a friend to do years ago and you will love it. Cheers

You could also think about covering the ball w/ your right palm as your hands come back into the slot. Not literally, as you still want to be able to see the ball obviously. But, facing your right palm to the ball in the slot helps someone understand how the right wrist plays a huge role in holding lag. It also means your left wrist is flexed or "bowed" in the slot, and your right shoulder has to be externally rotated in this same moment of facing your right palm to the ball. This will also help them improve their ability to compress the ball instead of scooping the ball.

I played with two short Tex-mex guys (from Texas), who happened to be hockey players--I have no idea how I can even explain this--but they totally kicked my butt at my home course in Ventura. One of them hit his hybrid as long as my driver--about 250yds--and they both shot around par. Their entire technique is that golf is just like hockey, whatever that means. I'm pretty sure the instruction here is solid--in fact I liked it, it's just a matter of trusting it and having it 'fit' with your own talent IMO. That doesn't often happen though.

I've heard a lot of teachers say the left hand/arm should be the dominant in the swing. Basically using the right hand is a big no no for right handed players. Here they're saying use the right arm and don't even mention the left. No wonder average golfers get confused trying to figure out how to swing the club.

At about the 5:10 mark, Jim says the right side should be higher than the left shoulder. Now does he mean the right shoulder should be higher than the left shoulder, because I think that is impossible? Or does he mean the right hand and possibly the right elbow finishes above the left shoulder? It's a little confusing.

It's funny this game of golf. If we had to drive a 2" nail into a baseboard at the bottom of a 24" high wall with a three foot long lightweight hammer in just one hard blow, I'd bet almost everybody could figure out a way to do that. You'd stand there sideways with your left leg against the wall, take the hammer back and smash the nail hard and if you didn't think it felt correct the first time, you'd do it again until you figured out the best way to get the job done. That's golf folks. It's a stick, a ball and hand-eye coordination. It's what a carpenter does every day when framing a house. Do you think he thinks about his elbow, chin, knee, hip or anything else? Nope. He looks at the nail, swings the hammer the way it was intended to be used and pounds the nail....one right after the other and never misses. And by the way, he does this sometimes on one knee, balancing on a roof, in the wind on a structure that is moving a bit. I've never heard of a carpenter call for a swing coach. Here's a hint....your golf club is a hammer.

Look at Vijay Singh swing he almost lets go of the right hand when he releases so he's definitely not leading with his right side. Not to be a Debbie Downer but this is old dogma and BAD Advice. If you concentrate on the right arm and are a right hander this will promote flipping at impact. A better approximation of impact is from using the Impact Snap. Just not a fan of using the right hand to release as it will inherently overtake the left side and you will lack club face awareness which you need to play good golf.

When I see or read anything about Jim McLean what I think about is that this is the guy who foisted the “X-Factor” on legions of amateurs and maybe some pros, too. You don’t hear about the X-Factor anymore because it was, perhaps, the single dumbest and most harmful swing concept ever devised by the mind of man. You would have thought that anyone who ever studied anatomy would have protested, pointed out that there is no coiled spring inside the human body, and that muscles, ligaments, tendons and vertebrae do not “snap” back after being stretched. Yet, the “coiled spring” was the centerpiece of that foolishness. And the real laugh was his faux statistical study in which he correlated the degree of separation between the turning of the hips and the turning of the shoulders (the so-called X factor) with driving distance. A book could be written on what was wrong there. And to think that he perpetrated that crime with full knowledge that players like Hogan and Snead, and many others, made full hip turns to permit the biggest shoulder turn possible. He ignored all the evidence to the contrary and created players who deliberately kept their lead foot flat and froze their lower bodies, killing rhythm, distance and enjoyment while creating a bonanza for orthopedic surgeons and chiropractors everywhere. It would be fitting and just if Jim had to pick up the medical bills of all the golfers who hurt their backs following his teachings.

Sorry eveyone but after 40 years as a golf pro this is a crock of shit for the normal golfer. If you focus upon body rotation and not focus upon generating speed by closing the clubhead throuh impact with your wrists and hands you will continue slicing the ball the same as 90% of all your other golfing friends around the globe!! It starts with grip, set up, shoulder alignment, swingpath and clubhead rotation. I thought these guys may have mentioned Ben Hogan seeing all the other players they claim to have known were his disciples??. Good luck.
