I bought the Cobra F7 One Length irons in 2017. I really liked them. I traded them in last fall on a new set or Cobra Forged Tec One Length irons. I even have the One Length Cobra black wedges. I recently tried swinging my brother's standard length clubs and failed miserably. One Length is much simpler. It's one setup for every iron.

As you said “it’s personal. In my opinion, it will work for MAJORITY of mid to high handicapper (70% of golfers) .. the reason it should work for everyone is 1. same plane swing, same ball position, more accurate dispersion, Drawback is length. And most of users, love them! Use hybrid 3,4, and 5 to achieve distance .. this can only be achieved if you put your ego aside and worry only about game!

Hi Mark. Interesting this one. I have a mate at my club who has gone 1 length 4 to 7 iron then standard length 8 through wedges. I started playing one length about 3 years ago b/c I could not get my ball striking consistent through the bag, especially with longer irons. I have gotten infinitely better thanks to this idea and my handicap went from about 12-13 to 6-7 in that span (most of which was last year when I was playing more due to COVID of course). I know 3 others playing them and everyone who has actually made that change has understood exactly why I did too. No regrets at all, would never go back.
@markbickel36853 жыл бұрын
Mark, when you ask why would anyone want to go with the one length, I’ve found it really helps me physically. It’s much easier on my bad back to stand more upright when making violent twisting swings than being more bent over with standard length clubs. This is areal plus for older golfers.

I played golf badly without instruction as a kid. Age 12-23 or so. Quit while peaking at barely a bogey golfer on a great day. 18yrs later I'm starting over, and after a range session with my old clubs and couldn't hit 10 shots in the air out of a large bucket - I'm starting from scratch. I chose One Length Cobras because I wanted to have less an uphill battle and to get me playing golf sooner as opposed to having to learn a bag of different stances, swings, addresses, etc. I hit some whifle balls in the yard when the clubs arrived, and was able to get the ball in the air nearly every swing, so far so good. First range session, I was striking the ball better than I ever did in my early golf years. Out of a large bucket of balls running thr whole set of irons, i hit less than 10 bad shots. I absolutely love them, and a beginning/scrub golfer can really benefit from this concept by taking some variables out of the equation.

Bought the Radspeed standard, replaced the G400. I will be a cobra guy for the rest of my life. More consistent, straighter, and longer, which i am sure is the lofts, but good for me. They are incredibly solid at impact, and forgiving at the same time. Cobra forever.....They restored my handicap, back to a solid 7. Also, sent them back to cobra to have adjusted to 2 degrees flat, and the factory did a great job, at no charge.

I absolutely love them, I am much more consistent with my ball striking now, much less tops and fats. I've found the wedges do travel about 5 yards further than my old ones did (adjusting for loft), and they go a bit higher I think as well. The only issue is the 4 and 5 for me, the average length between those is only 5 yards apart. It makes me want to switch the 4 for a one length hybrid.

Love your testing mark, you're one of the few who gives One length a fair go. Gaming F9 ONE since October 4i-GW, gone from 18 HCP to 15 already. You really need to trust the club, I see guys on YT test and they try to grip down on the higher lofted irons and move the ball around too much. Big no-no. Trust the engineering. Set up per 7i and rip the same swing every day. Can't get much easier than that. Tightest gap is 7-6 at about 10 yards. Everything else is a rough 15. Have stopped playing my 19deg ping i25 hybrid as the distance and accuracy I'm getting out of the 4 iron is superior.

I play the forged tec and F9 one length, high handicap player and just find this has really helped my game and simplified it. Again what people fail to mention is that, just because it's one length does not mean they can be custom fit. I play one length sterling irons. I’m a 13 hcp my iron shots aren’t what cause me to not break 80. I’m not obsessed with what’s on the bottom of the club but the lofts I get them bent to the gap I need. Irons are played 4-pw then standard gw, wide sole sw, and lw. I can flight a 50 gw to 140 so the set plays well for me. I use the single plane swing with them no issues, I address the ball the same for “normal” shots a move the trail foot closer or farther away if I want to flight or send to the moon.

I started playing 1 Length SpeedZone in April and the best decision I ever made. So much so that for more control I shortened everything else in the back (except high wedges). I am still working on getting even speed across the 1 Length but will come in time. The reason for it is that at 5' 3", I could not maximize full length clubs. Primarily fat shots have gone away and well struck shots get more distance than with a similar full length club. For anyone 5' 9" or short, I highly recommend taking a serious look at 1 Length as well as adjusting other clubs.

I gamed One Length Cobra F7, then F9 and now Milford Golf SL-7 over the past 3 years. I play 6-GW irons, and Cobra OL Hybrids 19, 22,25 degrees. You need to play the One Length for a few weeks to become accustomed to them, then you forget any issues. Handicap now 13 ( was 24 3 years ago). Do they work? Hell yes! I switched to Cobra King Forged One Length (4-P) last summer, and I like them. It did take some getting used to, and I'm still not entirely sure about the longer short irons. I do believe in the concept though, and feel determined to get it working for me. Haven't checked the numbers, but I feel more comfortable with the short 4-iron than the long P-wedge. I only ordered them from eBay, fitted JumboMax-grips on them and got going, so they're not custom fitted. I will go for a custom fitting next summer, and see if I'm getting something new or maybe just change shaft or some specs of my current ones. I don't play as much as I would want, but last summer I actually had a streak of 14 (9 hole) rounds in a row with between 16-22 points. Of course that could have happened with my previous irons too, but I just feel a lot more interested and motivated to improve with my one length irons. It's not for everyone, but I've had new clubs before and never felt like this. With these, and being a fan of Bryson I just.. feel a curiosity that I've not felt since I started as a 10 year old (I'm now 34).

I just hit these clubs today, and I was much more consistent with these than my Taylormade, or the Ping and Mizuno I tried out. Although, I should probably book some lessons to fix my inside to out swing before I get fitted and buy new clubs.

Although, I think your idea of variable length for the longer irons, a combo set, is worth a bit of research.

Pinhawk makes a one length and a dual length iron set. The dual has eight iron length wedges to 7 iron and 5 iron length 6 iron to 4 iron. Seven and four irons are hollow body.

The distance of a particular iron compared to others doesn't matter, it is the gapping that is important. For my game, the longer I can hit short irons the better because I struggle a bit with the longer shots of 190-210 yds with an iron and since I am a feel player, hitting half or 3/4 wedges is a strength.

I really want those one length irons. I changed from Mavrik Max to one length this season, and love it.

It´s s fair amount of people who "swear by" Trump as well. That doesn't mean they are right you know. The reason for Bryson to play one length has to do with his particular swing (body mechanic). I can't see any reason for the average golfer to sacrifice the extra precision they get from using a normal length (short) wedge if they don't gain something similar at the other end of the spectrum. (Remember, the wedge is much more than a full swing club - You need that versatility, right?!) Hard to see any theoretical gain that can compensate for the loss of that short-game versatility, to be honest. (If long-iron is their problem, they can use hybrids, right?!)

I bought the forge tec one length and my son plays them now because he absolutely pures them. I went to get another set for myself and my wife said no chance so I ended up with the f7 one length. But I think I'm gonna start saving for the rad one length

Yeps ... I also ask approval. Need to give my current Pinhawk SL one length set little more time before I'm gonna suggest (ask) a new set. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

Used the F8s, but am moving on. The 5i was always a low hooker. So good for recovering out of trees. Did like the SW though.

I don’t know anyone who games 1-length here in South Florida, but the resale value on EBay is impressive. I’m interested to try it, but not at $300-400 for a used set from 4-5 years ago. Someone is buying them. I’ll let you know when I find them, probably some crazy dude buys them and he stacks them away in a warehouse somewhere.

I would consider one length in The longer irons and keep 8iron and down in normal length. Possibly cause I'm not as good a ballstriker as you are Mark 😀

I have always thought that and I don't see why you wouldn't be able to

One--length is not something that can really be assessed in a short while. Try testing them from deep rough. compared to standard length and see what happens. I personally think they give an advantage when hitting out of rough, with the extra speed. I also think that gave Bryson another advantage over the field at the US open. I've played one-length for 3 seasons, with great results. I find my distances to be more consistent with the OL wedges, and "short" irons than with standard. I tend to pop standard wedges up and come up short, or blade them over the green. The length is easier on my back as well. I've always been better at hitting long clubs than short ones anyway, so a combo set of OL 7-LW, and then go to standard after that may be ideal.

Nice work, Mark. I'm new to Golf and looking around for an upgrade to my 30+ years Tommy Armour clubs which I have been learning and practicing with. Even I'm not a fan of the one-length club size. In my fitting hopefully I can determine whether the Rad Speed is better in steel or graphite shaft. That'll be my only test, I think. Cheers mate, keep up the good work for us plebs. Dann

Next time I buy irons, one length are a consideration. Gapping around conventional wedges and hybrids will be interesting.

I like the one length in the 4, 5, and 6. In 6 iron length. The rest of my irons standard length.

Interesting review, i have never been able to get much performance with cobra when I have gone in for club fittings. I do continue to be impressed with their focus on advancing technology. the 3d printing is interesting.

I’ve build myself a set with variable length in the short irons down to 7 and one length in 6,5,4. It works. However, even if Cobra improved the concept over the years, I still think there’s room for improvement. The problem is obviously the trajectory of the lower lofted clubs. In order to get it right I believe they should be more hybrid like. Something like the Cleveland Launcher. The Cobra one length hybrids sits a bit too upright and closed ( at least for me ) . They becomes “hook machines “ . But I think the idea with shorter length in the lower lofted clubs is a good one. Anything that makes it easier...
