I have set up the tape for my feet position and ball position on my putting carpet in the basement. One at 4’, another at 8’ and the final one at 12’ away from the cup. I feel so comfortable putting now that it feels like I am almost making everything from the same spots putt after putt. Can’t wait for the golf season here in Canada. Thanks very much for the idea Alex.

Another use for an alignment stick that I learned was to run the stick through the front belt loops of your pants. This greatly magnifies and makes hip movement easily noticeable.

Alex, I finally started taking putting more seriously, I was the 3 putt king, and for me it was all about taking the same controlled swing every time, with no head or body movement, I have a lot more 2 putts now than ever before, and sometimes a lucky one. I was the guy who was 3 feet away, and hit it 4 foot past, and missed the 4 footer back, yeah that guy. I was the wristy guy, way too much wrists, so I had no distace control. I don`t want to say my arms are locked, but pretty close, and my distance is way better.
@TheArtofSimpleGolf9 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing. Putting is important. Not as important as making sure you have the clear line and distance to get on or near green in reg… but holing putts will help with the bad rounds and the good

Do you happen to have a video showing the putting set up of a ball that’s already in play on the green, because I realize in the video you’re dropping/placing the ball where you want it but if I am in the middle of a game I have to set up based on the ball that’s on the ground not one that I put in the position

I started practicing with an alignment stick to dial in speed. Putts from 8, 10 and 12 paces. Make sure all putts reach the hole up. I have another ball about 15 inches beyond the hole to mark the back. And never practice at home. Always practice on the course.

Some players are different in regard to the line they see when they are over the putt. Some players see the line better when the ball is inside their eyeline, some are better with their eyes right over the ball, finally some see the line better when the ball is outside their eyeline. You have to experiment to see what is best for you. With a line drawn on the putter point it at a spot you want to putt to, then see which ball position makes it line look like the line is pointing right at the spot. You will find out different ball positions can have a big difference.

I find that I putt better if I dont follow through to far after hitting the ball. I place the ball slightly forward in my stance to hit middle to top of the ball. Gives the ball a true roll instead if hitting the bottom of the ball.

Every putt has a point where you “lose” control, in other word the bit you can effect ends and gravity etc takes over. All you do in putting it’s hit it straight to that point and let physics do the rest.

Shoes is a big one. not only can you be .5 - 1.5 inches taller in a pair of shoes, not many shoe soles are flat, so the heel being thicker can pitch you further forward. Is it the biggest factor in putting consistently? No, but you wouldn't likely practice using an undersize grip and then play with a jumbo grip... why do the same with your putting height?
@TheArtofSimpleGolf9 ай бұрын
Very well said indeed. It might seem silly, but it’s a bigger factor than most realize. 🏆

At set up the putter sits on the ground behind the ball….but when I watch pros putt, they lift the putter up a bit at impact….whats up with that? No one speaks to that….
@TheArtofSimpleGolf7 ай бұрын
It’s not an intentional thing. It happens due to the taste or taking putter back. It would snag if on the grass
@chuckmcdermott70537 ай бұрын
When the putter hovers in the air it will tend to have the same grip pressure on the swing. When on the ground and then swinging, it tends to change the grip pressure on the back swing as it transitions from the rest position on the ground to being held in the air. Those are the thoughts behind that as I believe.
@gooddeedsbeatbad26256 ай бұрын
Agree, you get a better roll on the ball I'd say. If you hit the bottom the ball dunts a bit and goes away with a bit of skid.
