Ben Hogan’s 5 Fundamentals was given to me by my 1st golf coach about 50 years ago. He told me at that time to refrain from any other methods. Unfortunately I had to stop playing golf for about 12 years from my mid 20s to late 30s and forgot much of what I knew. Any way in Hogan’s book he talks about wishing he had 2 right hands at impact. Your video demonstrates this better than any I have seen. Also other videos You have done really describe many of those lessons. Thanx so much for putting me back on track. You are the Best.

Took this to the range and found a missing piece to the puzzle. Was able to swing consistently from the inside and the ball took off with less effort. Of course the release was delayed, hands in front, and swing action based forward of ball instead of behind. Amazing! Thank You Eric.

I played 18 holes recently on quite a tough course, and all I focused on was this, 'keeping my r/elbow in front of my r/hip'. Man, the power it produced was incredible. It did feel a little awkward at first in truth, but only a little. But, right through the bag the shots were solid, accurate and consistent, and I took 21 shots off my previous best on this course, including a birdie on the 540yd si 1, with a drive to the 300 yds and then a 4i to the front edge, chip to 3 ft and a putt. I felt so much confidence, it was just brilliant. This move I'm now trying to ingrain into my swing. Thanks Eric.

That subtle micro movement piece between pronating the right forearm without going internal with your trail shoulder is such a Golden Nugget! Well timed video EC, I was working some “Flying Wedge” on the range today, and was getting more left than normal, like a good Cogorno Disciple had the camera rolling, I went back to watch some Face On, sure enough- I was going Internal. Feel vs Real, sure as hell didn’t feel like I had any trail shoulder internal rotation. Thank you, on the money per usual!

I was an internal rotator because none of my instructors told me otherwise. I was very afraid to try it mostly because the club face looked so open, but I trusted you. Wow! I feel so much more powerful and I hit in the middle of the club face instead of near the heel. It will take a little time for it to be more automatic, but I’m confident pitching in the backyard. Anything i should watch out for when hitting my hybrids and woods? Thanks Atascadero, Ca

Wow. Great explanation. I would use the Hanger swing aid and focus so much on my lead arm/wrist conditions. I’d hit em great and then once I took the hanger off after about 10-15 shots it would fall apart again. After watching this I realize I never even thought about what my trail arm was doing. The Hanger just kind of ‘forced’ my right hand to do the correct movements without me really learning what I need to do to create the proper impact/release conditions on my own-and all this time the trail arm was the culprit🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Awesome breakdown! I am a Ben Hogan disciple. I have been working on this at the range and do well with shorter irons but struggle with 7 and above. I slice/push often. Most of the time this is due to lack of pronation at impact. When I exaggerate the pronation I top or heel the ball. Any other vids/aids out there to help specifically with that piece?

This right elbow change has been a game changer for me, but I can sometimes leave right hand open, without the pronation you're teaching here, so this could be the missing piece! Thanks Eric, great description of how to achieve this. Funny thing is, when you apply this, your finish feels so much better too, if you're rotating properly of course 😁👍👌👊

Nice analysis of the right arm and wrist through impact. And hallelujah for having the right thumb pointing backwards coming into the final release. I get so frustrated by people demonstrating release starting with the right thumb pointing out toward the ball. My question is what else needs to happen before you are in a position to make this release. Or is the aim of the exercise for the rest of the body to organize itself around this motion?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Forrest! The MAIN thing you need to do this is a square to slightly closed club face. Talk more about what is needed before here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ-yfKdoqsifiNk
@kendutoit56804 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eric, that is good detail. The transition for me is to push off with the right foot and rotate the club square with the lower body. Trying to do this becomes too mechanical, should it not just happen as a consequence?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken! Unfortunately I cannot give a simple YES or NO answer here for you. Too many variables involved and too many different possibilities from player to player. If something happens automatically you don't need to actively think about it... But if it doesn't.......then you better!

I think my problem with hitting fairway drivers(3 or 5 woods) is the very possible straightening of my right arm. The last time on Marine Park Golf Course which has open fairways like a British Links setup , though I hit some decent fairway shots I was concerned with being quick with the hands to avoid hitting behind the ball. The probability of a good shot wasn’t high. I couldn’t keep my eyes on the ball. It was kind of a determined madness to win out. I would much prefer to feel confident calm and meditative when striking the ball. Your advice moves me to being much more informed. I would love to feel much more confident about my fairway shots. Thanks , you’re teaching an old dog new tricks

Ok- totally get the concept- however, for me... how do I get the right arm to NOT internally rotate in transition. On video I have good set up. Good structure at the top... and then initial move is an internal right arm.. just for about 3 inches but then I’m dead. The only save is early extention, early release, all that bad stuff. What drill could I do for a transition that aids in keeping and getting my right elbow/arm external?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff. You fix a problem by doing the opposite movement. Then you need to exaggerate 10x more than you think. Go slower than you think and video to confirm. So if your issue is internal when you start....you need to... 1. Record yourself from down the line 2. Feel external rotation to start down 3. Feel external 10X more than you think 4. Go HALF the speed you think is "slow" 5. Check each swing to see if you did it 6. Rinse and repeat until you get it. Give yourself 3-6 months of consistent discipline work on it. Thats the recipe. Hey Jeff. My two cents. I’m super analytical about my swing and I’ve learned a lot about how it should look. Doing it something completely different! Anyway, If I’m not careful, I’m super prone to coming over the top on my downswing with big time internal rotation. My shoulders tilt forward and my back elbow flies away from my body. This mostly happens to me when I start my downswing with my arms and hands. As I’ve improved, I’ve learned to start my downswing with my hips and I’ve gotten much better with not coming over the top. By starting my downswing with my hips, I’m able to much more easily shallow the club. In fact, it happens naturally for me when I start with my hips. I have a feeling that starting your downswing with your hips will help you with that external rotation Eric is talking about. I hope he sees this and calls BS if I missed anything. Let’s see! Good luck man. This addiction is killing me. 🤓

Another great video Eric, so can I ask regarding the forearm pronation. Doesn't this tend to happen naturally due to the momentum of the clubhead, unless the player deliberately holds onto the angle excessively to try and create forward shaft lean?
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Of course the answer is "it depends". Does it happen naturally for everyone? Definitely not. For some? Yes. Do YOU need to FEEL it consciously? Only if it it doesn't happen without conscious thought.

Eric great video as always. Is the rotation creating by turning left hand like a screw or is it done by the supination of the right hand?

Hey Frank! There will be both supination of the lead arm and pronation of the trail arm. Not just one...both. In all golfers. What a golfer FEELS to create it may be different. But they are both going.

Wayne Willis. I always ask how a golfer can “ over do” or misinterpret a golf instruction. I think that if a student is not careful, he will start to jam his R arm into his side in an attempt to keep his R arm bent. Not good. That narrows the downswing arc and prevents a release of the R arm at impact. Good instruction on the mechanics but be careful.
The commercials interrupting your instructions are incredibly annoying as it takes away from the continuity of what you are saying. You should tell KZbin to change 5heir timing. I fully understand it is a money play but it ruins your lessons.
