Why do you feel the i525 is a better fit for you? The power spec lofts of the i230 would be closer to the i525 lofts. You would probably get similar distances with each.

I tried 430s/525s/i230s today at a fitting and I can tell you; WE CAN USE THESE IRONS TOO! I really preferred the i230s and that’s what I ordered. (I am a rapidly improving 15HCP) seriously folks, give these a try. And yes, Sophie rocks! Edit: Got my 230s today and all I can say is WOW! higher handicappers should not be intimidated by these, because they're VERY forgiving. They sound and feel amazing, and did I mention forgiving? My official HCP right now is 18.2.

Just switched from G425 to i230 and I’m a high handicapper! I miss left and don’t need the offset of GI iron and find these clubs still have lots of forgiveness. I also LOVE that you don’t get the crazy outlier that goes 20 yds further when you really square up G425!

I played callaway gear exclusively for 15 years, but after the past couple of years with various customer service and quality issues, I've switched to Ping this year. Just put a full set of i230s in the bag along with a compliment of G430 woods and hybrid.

I like what you say about Ping longevity; I really fancy these but my i210s are three seasons old and are still mint, regripped once by myself and I’m sure I’ll get a few more years out of them. Played 40 years and have bought brand new irons twice ( various second hand sets mind ) I went from 14 to 9 hc in a season with the i210s Love them

Given that there is a 2.5 degree loft difference between the i525 6i and the i230 6i the data Sophie got is interesting. 2.5 degrees is about 3/4s of a club, as I like to see about 12 yards difference between clubs, the carry distance is slightly higher for the i230 than I would expect but within margin of error. It is the spin difference that is the surprise. I would expect 700 rpm difference between a 5i and a 6i from my speed which is exactly what we see between the i525 and i230, but out of a loft that is only 3/4s of a club difference. So i230s are definitely out performing in the spin dept. Problem for the i230 is that the i210s are almost as good and last

Sophie, It is tough to compare 6 irons between the i525 and i 230 when there is 2.5 degrees difference in the loft. I would like to see a compare between the normal i525 and the power spec of the i230.

The point was to show where i230 sat in the Ping family. It may look to have a fuller top edge but it is a weaker club in loft and isn’t that power iron like the i525 is

At the same time have more consistent distances and accuracy. I am a 9 handicap with about a 80 swing speed. What is your swing speed? These clubs are way out of my league. But I still love your descriptions about how things feel rather than just pure data. When I bought my G425 irons they were very clicky, but as I started to produce faster and more sweet spot shots, that sound started to dissappear. Just a thought. Feel can be so important to a lot of golfers so thank you for your descriptive thoughts and feels. P. S I was so impressed with my G425 12 degree loft fairway finder driver, I bought the fairway Woods, hybrids and irons!!!!!!! Well OK, thirteen of them lol

I wouldn’t be so sure they are out of your league. I’m a high handicapper that games G425. I tried the i230s and was blown away. Distance control and dispersion were much better and they were still forgiving! The “Player’s Iron” terminology is bs imo for the i230.

So go Power Spec on i230 to get same loft as i525. that is a real comparison. I agree they feel and sound better but in power spec get the distance back. That maybe the way to go

I loved the i210 and when I finally got round to buying them, they no longer made them... bought the i525, and now wished I'd waited. Haven't really gelled with them yet and got them on launch day after waiting only 6 weeks from fitting. Still a BIG Paing fan boy, but regret not waiting for the i230.

I've had a few sets from new like jpx 921 forged...Taylormade P790...Titleist T100 but found a set of Wilson v6 tours and I love them...they feel so soft when out the middle and I think they'll be the bag for a few more years..I am tempted by the Wilson cb's though 🙈

What a great review. I’ve been toying with the i525’s most of the summer and then saw these. Tried them at a National retailer and fell in love with the soft feel off the face of the i230 but did see a drop off on distance. Now even more torn between i525 and i230.

The traditional rule of thumb is that you have to skip a generation or two before there is a big difference in Ping clubs. As an example, I noticed that a number of Ping pros were using G400 drivers all through the life of the G410. Made me decide to hunt down a good used G400 when I needed a driver and save some money.

I’ve had i210s for two seasons and although these new i230s look the berries I won’t be changing for a good while yet, went from 15 to 9 HC in a season ( after playing for over thirty years!)

Very thorough review...great job 👍 Im not a fan of Ping's colour dot system as there isnt a std. According to their chart Im a std length blue dot but being a lefty we rarely get the opportunity to test full range or options. I have a set of i200s in green and I can get them to work. They also look like a Ford Mustang with the inline 4 engine. My distances are similar to my Srixon Z785s, so I use them as my practice clubs. The prices are hefty these days but the reviews will be around in a couple of years time when the new models launch and pre loved come onto the market...

Great review, you seem enthused by them. Nice to see a review on course so soon after release. Without wanting or aiming to sound conceited, we amateurs (maybe me alone??) should take more from the Ladies opinion as the distance you hit the ball and I do (and a few others) is much more relatable to those pros who aren't on tour. I have also been waiting ages for the release of these irons. I went for Srixons back in 2018 and i'm still playing them. I tried the 210's but only at a high street fitter. I loved srixons inclusion of shaft options and the looks and feel. I will definitely be trying theses irons as i am hoping for a new set soon. But do i go to Ping for a review/fitting and potential blend of all their clubs or do i go Local and try this and the 425, 525?

These are different clubs completely because the i230’s aren’t hollow bodied, it’s a cavity with a cover on the back and the screw in the end is for weight only

You’re quite correct in stating that Ping offer you less. They have somehow managed to convince the public and reviewers like you that cast irons are worth the prices they ask. Ping was a company with integrity when it’s founder Karsten Solheim was alive. Not now; they’ve joined the corporate rip- off set. Nobody will convince me that a set of 7 Chinese cast clubs is worth more than a new Apple Mac laptop. Cum on ?

430 are gonna be the bigger SGI version I would imagine. The ones that have the same name as the driver. The I series has always had lower numbers past the i10/G10 series.
