There are tons of tours out there. Their intention was to work with the PGA tour and they refused them. So did they fracture the tour or did the PGA tour do that by not taking their call.

LIV did offer Bland $100K/tournament even if he finished last. He wasn't making that kind of money on the European Tour and never had. LIV was his retirement ticket, plain and simple, which was true for most of the Euro players who jumped.

@@SwayPromo Yes, but his statement that he wasn't given anything is a bit disingenuous. If LIV guaranteed him a run of several years, he was effectively guaranteed several million dollars. I get it why he said yes - he had made a living in golf but this was a chance he hadn't had to make enough for his family and a secure retirement.

I think that you're wrong about the frequency with which we see the best players in the world. With LIV packing a guaranteed world class field, and the PGA Tour elevated events, The Majors and The Ryder Cup, I would argue that we have never seen fields with such a thick contingent of the world's best. We just don't see the mix as often, but we get the players and the competition. Btw, The LIV Team events are AWESOME !!

Dickie Bland a legend, golf was dieing of a slow death, PGA Tour is a US organization and while a well run organization it is US eccentric not Global, LIV is Global andnlove the party hole theme, but also local rules like being able to use a range finder in tournament play which helps sppedd up play, howm many times we seen a caddie pace off yardage with todays tech is ridiculous. I think LIV can set up a new golf rules organization as not agreeing to role back the ball size and can we stop playing out of divots in the fairway, should be a free drop, just a few examples where us fans want to see changes. Great interview

LIV should have a senior captain and woman on every team and subs. I know Richard Bland is aptly named, he plays boring unassuming golf without flash (that's definitely not a diss of his skill, he's unreal), but I would rather watch Tiger Woods shoot 75 in a team competition than that random kid shoot 57 on a goat track. I don't get why LIV doesn't relegate the bottom two scores on Sunday to a two-man scramble. It would make it more exciting. It doesn't make much sense to compete against the PGA Tour in format. Golf is about media and the players as much as the result. I would expand the fields and teams. LIV could elevate women's golf, which has long suffered from an image problem. Having it be invite only makes it watchable.
@Pud56
@Pud56 20 күн бұрын
Couldn’t disagree more, LIV works in its format, it doesn’t have to be a PGA clone. Your thoughts re the media, well they are coming round, all the UK press now report LIV, Sky sports news reports LIV despite not covering it. My worry is the major TV companies come sniffing as then dreaded ADs will kill part of its appeal. So hope LIV+ and KZbin remain the main outlets, obviously offer sponsorship, such as the existing Maserati deal, but don’t sell ads every 5 minutes, followed by 10 Putts and then more ads, which sums up PGA broadcasting. LIV isn’t perfect and will evolve, as Saudi already sponsors Women’s golf via Aramaco, there is the opportunity to have co sanctioned events, which might be interesting. But please do not mimic the failed foremat of PGA golf. And yes, it’s failed, it feeds a few pros, the rest starve.

he finished top 24 because his competition isn’t top shelf. Hope he enjoys his blood money. Lebron James and others have donated to schools, after school programs and have put their money where their mouth is. Fair play to them, they have character that should be emulated. The LIV players can close their eyes to the Saudis whitewashing their record by throwing money at sports but I will not be able to abide it.

Lets get things straight. Senior events are NOT majors and as such, Bland is NOT a major winner. Further, he never won on the PGA tour so he joined the circus where he makes money when his team mates play well.

So the pgatour taking players off every other tour and especially gutting the European tour is OK. Pgatour inward looking and treating world golf with contempt for decades is OK. Blood money, USA bombed these countries since 1946 = Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Panama, Colombia, Bosnia, Cambodia, el Salvador, Congo, Grenada, Yugoslavia, Guatemala, Laos, Iran, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Peru, Somalia, Yemen, there's more.

The guy plays in no cut events and therefore cashes a decent check every tournament. How is that not offering you a dollar? Now he wins two majors on the Champions Tour and he has the answers. He took the cash...no big deal. Own up to it. The LIV tour is a joke.

LIV is not a pro league, no matter if they have previous pros as members. Of course when you leave the pro league you will not be exempt of the majors. LIV are free to create their own majors - good luck.

Majors are independent from the tours. The major win grants a senior tour exemption, as that is how the senior tour has always conducted itself in regards to the senior major champions. They didn’t give him the exemption to play the senior tour bc he plays for LIV. But wouldn’t simply come out and say that…
