Under Provisional ball. Tappin said: "If you find your original ball you CAN play it". The correct wording is "MUST" play it. Once the original is found (not OB), the provisional ceases to exist. Example: First ball on par 3 might be OB. Provisional ball goes in the hole for a possible total score of 3. The player finds his first ball NOT OB. He cannot choose to take his provisional ball score.
@simonleach38126 ай бұрын
If you or a fellow competitor find your original ball, you MUST play it because you are not permitted to have the choice of 2 balls - which would be unfair. However, if you soon realize that your first ball will be pretty much unplayable even before finding it, you cannot "declare it lost" - there is no such thing under rules. You can ask your fellow competitors to stop looking and play your provisional but if someone were to still find it within 3 minutes (perhaps an opponent!) before you get to your provisional, you have to play the first even if you declare this first one ball unplayable (and then proceed under Rule Rule 19). Note a provisional ball is for a ball that is lost or out of bounds, and cannot be an option for an unplayable ball again, because this is like having a choice of two balls.

( I guess your playing partners would have to agree?
@Randsurfer6 ай бұрын
This is the least able to "clear up" rule in golf. It is both vague and arbitrary and subject to interpretation. It is most "clear" when you have a super diligent tournament committee that inspects every inch of the course before play and physically marks the GUR with paint. This is a massive job given the square area of a golf course. I've done it, and it is tough to not miss anything. Also, the damage can occur after the inspection and marking has occurred.
@bantoniplakantry91386 ай бұрын
@@Randsurfer Look up the definition of GUR in the Rules of Golf. Whilst there are some things that are specifically mentioned, GUR generally has to be defined by the committee. So if there's a big bare patch in the fairway and it's not marked as GUR and the committee hasn't designated bare patches are GUR, it's not GUR. Players just can't decide that something is an abnormal course condition. It's either listed in the definition of GUR or the committee has designated is as GUR, otherwise it's not GUR.

Can you go thru the scenario where you have red or yellow but ball flies directly into the water without hitting land and what the options are?
@Betleyman_76 ай бұрын
The key issue is establishing where your ball crossed the penalty area line. Once that is decided you proceed as per rules for red and yellow penalty areas. If you find your ball in a penalty area it is important to proceed from where the ball entered the penalty area which may not be directly adjacent to where the ball lies, if for instance, it had clearly rolled several yards into the penalty area. The reference point is always where it crossed the penalty area line.

@@Betleyman_7 so do you only replay from tees if ball goes OB? And again, if it hit in bounds, then goes OB, can you play from point it entered OB?
@Betleyman_76 ай бұрын
@@garcon8552 If you hit a ball out of bounds your only option is to play from where you took the shot (stroke and distance) under penalty of one shot. So, if you hit a tee shot OOB then you must retake the tee shot and it will be your third shot. If you are not sure it the ball went OOB you can play a provisional ball (also your third shot) which becomes your ball in play if you cannot find your original or find it OOB. If the only place your ball may be lost is in a penalty area you are not allowed to play a provisional ball, so if you hit a shot into a penalty area you can play the ball as it lies in the penalty area if possible or, under penalty of one stroke, play the shot from the same spot or play a ball from a spot no closer to the hole on a line from the pin to the point your ball crossed the penalty line, or in the case of a red penalty area you have an extra optiona to drop laterally within in 2 club lengths of the point your ball crossed the penalty line but no closer to the hole. In essence, if it is a yellow penalty area and you cannot play the ball as it lies, the penalty area must be between you and the flag when you take your next shot, with a red penalty area it may be possible to avoid this with a lateral drop as in the video. If the first ball is found (not lost or OB), the provisional ball ceases to exist as an option. To answer your question: The provisional ball was not now "in play", even if he chose to play it. He should correct his error by returning to the location of his first ball and playing it from there. The strokes taken at the provisional ball do not count. He will take a 2-stroke penalty for playing a "wrong ball" (choosing to play with his provisional ball) Note: There is only a single 2-stroke penalty. If, he takes 2 or more strokes with the wrong ball, the penalty does not compound. It is a single penalty of 2 strokes because it is a repetition of the same mistake. If he plays the entire hole with the wrong ball and does not correct his error before starting the next hole, he is disqualified from the competition.

The player would be given free relief and then once he has taken full relief he can choose which club he wants to use from the new ball location. There are 14 clubs in the bag and you can use any of them at any time you wish. This basically voids the unreasonable part of the rule. these rules and penalties for not teeing off at tee time is stupid

Click-bait! HATE IT! I promise you, no golfer forget these rules. Normal rules everybody knows WTF (Sorry mate, dont like when people steal my time.)

it's not clickbait, if it said "6 rules 99% of golfer forget" would you be happy, do you need a prize for being in the 1% that know if you tee off one minute after your tee time the first golfer gets a 2 shot penalty. I've never heard that in my life or heard any other golfer mention it.

@@krusher74 Thats my point. It was usless inforamtion. Either you know it by heart or the rules never take effect in real life. (The one youre talking about might be used once in a blue moon while people break the rule every single day.) We have to understand that 99,9 % who break that rule think they starting at the right time. (We dont need to know about an obscure rule that noone use.) Anyway. Agree to disagree I guess, right?!

First rule is why golf is corrupted. It's all about the commercials and not about the players. This is why LIV is so much better.

LIV Golf is a Circus and they’re only there because they’re greedy Bastards!The golf is actually shambles and they’ll all be back very soon Particularly as they’ll never get World Rankings.
