Golf lessons can be a valuable investment for players of all skill levels. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the fundamentals of the game or an experienced player looking to fine-tune your skills, golf lessons can help you improve your game and reach your goals on the course.
Here are a few benefits of taking golf lessons:
Professional guidance: A golf pro or instructor can provide you with expert guidance and help you develop a practice plan to improve your skills. They can also help you identify and fix any weaknesses in your swing or game, and provide you with personalized feedback and instruction.
Improve your technique: Golf is a technical sport, and having proper technique is essential for hitting good shots and scoring well. Golf lessons can help you learn the proper grip, stance, and swing mechanics, which can lead to more consistent and accurate shots.
Learn new skills: Golf lessons can also help you learn new skills, such as how to hit different types of shots or how to play different types of golf courses. This can expand your repertoire and make you a more well-rounded player.
Save time: Taking lessons can also save you time in the long run, as you will be able to learn and improve more quickly with the help of a professional. This can allow you to get more enjoyment out of your time on the course and see results faster.
Overall, golf lessons can be a worthwhile investment for players looking to improve their game and reach their goals on the course.

For those saying playing lessons are not needed for worse players, consider this, I think you would be surprised how much on course training will help. Caddies can be hit or miss on terms of where to aim, green reading, etc. but that's not what a playing lesson is supposed to be. A playing lesson will help you understand the nuance of a round of golf and teach you how to score better. Lou Stagner (one of the top stats guys with Arccos golf) recently revealed with Arccos data that the average 0 handicap golfer makes 2.2 birdies per round while the average 20 handicaper makes 0.3 birdies per round. This tells us is that the main difference between an extremely good AM golfer and a weekend warrior is not birdies and good shots, but the avoidance of mistakes. Now I'm not saying "go out and only take playing lessons" but consider this also, if you take a playing lesson it's not one dimensional. Your coach is not only there to help you score better with strategy but they will also work on your swing in a playing environment. I would suggest to everyone who has the opportunity - take lessons. But also consider going out with a pro on the course to learn how to apply what you're working on. The better you are the more your lessons should be on course. For example, if you're a 20 handicap taking lessons from a pro, consider 2-3 swing lessons for every 1 playing lesson. Where if you are an exceptional AM, you should look to have 2-3 playing lessons for every 1 swing lesson you get. In conclusion, everyone will have their own formula for how to play their best, but if you're a golfer who says "I just keep playing / getting lessons but I never get better" consider that there is a good chance that course management and a playing lesson will make the difference for you.

I've had several priceless on course lessons. Once you have a reasonable swing, that's when you learn to actually play the game of golf - and that happens on the course, not on the range. With a coach, a better player or simply someone who has an opinion on your swing/shot/strategy - for me this is where the improvement comes. Keep rocking Matt! Caddy no good, but coach is fine!

The value of this lesson comes from having someone confirm your thought process and giving you different ideas of what you could do. We get stuck in see distance, hit this club mentality. When you have to explain to someone what you want to do, you get feedback from thinking “maybe that’s actually a dumb shot” plus confirmation from someone else.

Not ever had an on course lesson before. Clearly you’re at a different level but for me I’d want more swing analysis/coaching rather than course management. A caddy should do that no? Enjoyed the video

An actual lesson where you learn a lot is priceless. A lesson where you have to continuously ask for advice on the shot, lie etc. makes it difficult to quantify the value (supplied by the coach). I want a coach that is proactive and takes away the little voices and uncertainty in my head. Guide my thoughts too please... But besides all of this, any lesson is worth gold, even if you get just one thing from it. Where I am living (Namibia) a lesson averages about N$450/hour, which I happily pay. So about $30 USD.

Your putting comment on hole #2 is spot on. In the 15 rounds I played this year, I had at least 40 putts at birdie (I'm a 20 handicap) and didn't make a single one. Yet I holed out at least 40 putts for par or bogey from outside of 10 feet. Whaddaplaya ... Whaddaguru!

In Quebec a good coach charges around 150 per hour. So a 9 holes would cost 300cad. But please make sure the course you choose is not crowded as it's not fun to be pressured by followers when coach has to explain more than usual. Learning is worth it. Thanks Matt.

Love your comment about trying to make putts. Over the winter I worked on lag putting and improved it significantly. But the downside was I was not converting birdies. After watching your shots saved video I looked at my # of holes to make a birdie and realized I was trying not to 3 putt instead of trying to make the putt. In July it took me 44.2 holes to make a birdie. Through 7 holes in October my YTD rate was 25.3 the highest I had ever been at the end of the year was 21.2 (last 5 years). For the 7 holes in October I was at 32 holes to make a birdie. At that point I was realized what I was doing, plus they aerated the greens and I stopped worrying as much about line and just hit the ball at the hole. I finished October at 14.6 holes to make a birdie. For November I’ve played 11 rounds and am averaging 11 holes to make a birdie. So if you are not trying to make a putt and don’t commit to a line you are not going to make a putt.

@@andrewcanavan3015 I have a WellPutt mat. It has a hole painted on the mat. I put an alignment rod 6” behind the hole. I then put a ball 5’ from hole. The putt must of past the hole but not roll over the rod. If you make you move back 6” and repeat all the way to 10’ the trick is if you miss you start over at 5’. Other drill I do is putt a ball as close to end of mat. Then put tee 6’ from end of mat. Then hit your next putt. It must stop short of 1st putt. Continue until you putt goes past the last putt or comes short of tee. Count how many balls that is. You can do that drill the opposite way and vary the distances. I usually do one drill for 3-6’.
