point is this guy is the type of villain that would show up in true classic superhero tales, but in a shallow work he'd just be a glorified "badass", at least in the work he's from its show the things he does are not good.

@@alexanderavila4662 Golgo would be a true villain in a superhero classic? That's a hot take imo, like of course Golgo is a hitman and his actions are maybe morally reprehensible but truly villainous? I'm not sold on that
@alexanderavila4662 Жыл бұрын
@@TheFunkyHalfMexican I don't think its very difficult to understand how, characters like based on people like that are commonly present in superhero classics usually insulting the hero's quest for peace and love and calling the same injustices done upon them justice if it fits their wanted aesthetic. One of the biggest villains for one of Japan's most famous tales is like that, the organization of SHOCKER.
@TheT3rr0rMask Жыл бұрын
@Alexabder Avila One of the points of the movies is showing Golgo's brutality vs the villains'. Golgo takes jobs that benefit others who are seeking revenge, and the ones he kills are more reprehensible than him. He doesn't kill for pleasure or a selfish need; he's a weapon and the equivalent of Switzerland in that he's unbiased with his work. Compare that to Snake and Bregan who do it for the thrill and or an alterior motive. Or Dawson whose tactics hurt everyone around him for the purpose of his own selfish desires (even hating his own son as much as he loved him). The manga and in turn the anime are filled with small moments showing Golgo's humanity, as reserved as it is. In Gallenpero he refuses the job until the man is literally on the verge of death and begging, offering a small amount of diamonds vs cash, yet Golgo takes the job even after the guy dies. What motive does he have for being a hitman? Who knows, though the manga has a few chapters that, while not flat out backstories, are possibilities that show why he decided on this life. Sage and a few other reviewers really miss what the series does, and the fact he's a poker faced killed with seemingly no personality is an intentional decision that the stories play off of expertly. He's not a Schwarzeneager- his job IS the context for why he is the way he is.

@@iknoweverything4959 The anime is basically a modernized version of the manga, with a heavy dose of politics and social commentary. As a guy who loves history and the Bond series, it's a great read for me. And a few stories do show how he affects other people in a bad way. The movie was a distillation of three of the manga stories, in fact!
@TheT3rr0rMask Жыл бұрын
@iknoweverything4959 The anime adapts manga chapters pretty faithfully, just modernizing bits since it's set in '08. The series has a few formulas it likes to cycle between: Golgo v mob boss, Golgo v impossible shot, Golgo v "expert" trying to overcome/catch him, and Golgo v emotional family, Golgo v army of guys, woman trying to crack Golgo's shell, and then very political stories. You can see the anime cycle through these and The Professional has almost all of em. The Dr. Z hit, the San Francisco hit w/an impossible shot and Breagan as the stand-in for the detective/assassing trying to take Golgo down, and Dawson fits the emotional family member thing. As someone else said the movie loosely bases is three acts on chapters, a few of which made it into the anime and official English translations. The San Francisco hit is basically a combination of "Action in 4/24" and one I forgot the name of where another sniper thinks he's sussed out every possible vantage point Golgo would take only to be shocked when Golgo shoots from the one spot he said it was impossible to shoot from. Add in Bernardt Meuller, Golgo's first target from the manga. Then Dr. Z? Story taken from the manga w/the same twist, as different as it is in the film. Dawson himself is even taken from a manga story where Golgo has to infiltrate his tower full of traps (never was translated officially or even by fans, which sucks cus I really wanna read it). Not to write an essay but The Professional does fit in as a faithful adaptation despite its over the top nature. The director said he wanted to pit Golgo against the hardest obstacles he'd ever faced and it was accomplished.

Lyrics are as follows I said pray for you...pray for you! You irritate me, You're like a 100-carat diamond; Nothing ever hurts your feelings. Prepare yourself. I'm aiming at your cruel back, My red nail polish on the trigger. I said pray for you...pray for you! I have only one paternoster: "A death worth to the hunter of love." Our love was like an illusion. I didn't need your pity for me. I can't forgive you. You left my horny body. You passed over me like a wind. Relieve yourself, I have at least arranged the offering of a bouquet. I'll throw it for you from the top of a skyscraper. I said pray for you...pray for you! You're the only man who I've really loved. I wanna thoroughly bury my memory of you. The time between us shimmers. I know there's no point in blaming your disloyal love, however. I have only one paternoster: "A death worth to the hunter of love." Our love was like an illusion. I didn't need your pity for me. I said pray for you...pray for you!
