Golnar & Mahan is a contemporary Iranian jazz/world band based in Vienna. Both Golnar and Mahan are originally from Iran and have been collaborating for years and have released two successful CDs under different projects. Their current band is the result of years of working as a couple musically and in their personal lives. For Golnar & Mahan, they have joined forces with Austrian/Egyptian power-house percussionist Amir Wahba.
Their repertoire consists of original compositions which embody their rich musical world and various influences. The songs are strongly influenced by Iranian folk traditions as well as American jazz and Afro Cuban polyrhythms. Their music pushes the envelop and re-defines the paradigm of world music. Multi-dimensional, multi-lingual and multi-cultural, Golnar & Mahan is the definition of a real cosmopolitan band. In their personal lives, as well as in their music, Golnar and Mahan make a powerful couple and have performed many concerts around the world as well as being nominated three times for the Austrian World Music Awards with their various projects.
They have collaborated with world renowned artists such as Erkan Ogur (Turkish guitar master), Alain Perez and Pavel Urkize to name a few.
