Come to think of it, Gena was quite the philosopher, living alone, so much time to contemplate, then realizes that he wants a friend and finds cheburashka and it turns out out they complement each others' personalities really well. But Gena continues to extend important philosophical life lessons to Cheburashka now and then such as through this song.

They made episodes about long lost love, the matter of life, loneliness etc. Melancholy really is a loved thing in the Soviet/Russian culture. It's really interesting to me how morose/bittersweet the music is in even Russian children's show music. And the lyrics have a sort of tragic optimism to it, smth like "maybe, in spite of the tragedies of the past, the future can still -- against all odds -- work out for the better." It does make their version of the typical "friendship is magic" theme rather distinct from what one might expect from a kid's show: a lonely crocodile, a mischievous old lady, and an optimistic young child sitting on a quickening train heading toward an uncertain future, yet finding reason to sing about it nonetheless. If I've understood the show's thematic content correctly, it seems like a remarkably sophisticated and non-naive take on things.

There's always something in russian music that accurately identifies it their country of origin, I can't describe It with words. The melody in the instruments, a breeze of eastern feelings. Its like they are all composed by the same orchestra, like if you could hear them in any point of history and you wouldn't spot anachronism. "Waltz of Manchuria", "When we were at War", "Siberian Riflemen/Partisan Song", "Once there was a sovereign Russia", "Farewell of Slavianka", Mark Bernes songs ("Dark is the Night", "Cranes"), "Long Live Free Ukraine" (obviously its ukranian but also applies) Cheburashka songs, are a few examples where I find this. [Chorus:] As a long runner roll the long path spreads away, In the end it abuts straight against sky dome. And everyone believes in the best coming day... As our blue railcar sets to roll and roam. Maybe we offended someone, hurt for naught, Calendar will cover this day's sheet. Path to new adventures with the friends we plot... Hey, the engine driver, bump the speed! [Chorus] Our blue railcar runs forward as it sways, The express train's speeding up ahead... Why is this day coming to an end, I'm dazed, I wish it would last whole year instead! [Chorus]

@@efegokce321 well I met someone nice who’s Russian and they share the culture with me. Initially I started by just wanting to learn a new language. Then I played a PC game in which many Russians played which led me to realize there was a lot of tension between the US and Russia so I looked for a way to understand humanity in other cultures. Then I met someone who was Russian and very kind so here I am :)
