Sonam Kalra is a vocalist whose skill spans both Western and Indian musical traditions. She has trained in Indian classical music under Shubha Mudgal and Sarathi Chatterjee and has also studied varied genres of Western music including classical opera, jazz and gospel under the noted tenor, Hur Chul Yung, soprano Situ Singh Bueller and gospel singer Ashley Clement in Singapore. Sonam is also a writer, a voice-over artiste and a stage and television actor.
Sonam has performed to full houses in Delhi, at the India Habitat Centre, the India International Centre, The Epicentre in Gurgaon, The Orange Ball for the Dutch Queen's Birthday, @Live and The Garden of Five Senses where her concerts have been a great success. She has also done solo fund-raiser shows for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India and Ritinjali as well as with other artists for the Salaam Balak Trust. She has also been invited to perform for the past two years at The Delhi International Arts Festival, for the Neemrana Music Foundation at Neemrana and Flow in Jaipur. She opened the Ahmedabad
International Arts Festival with a solo gospel show at St. Xavier's Church. She has also done exclusive corporate events for clients including BMW, American Express Platinum cards, Chivas Regal and the British High Commissioner. She has travelled outside India in Muscat for the Green Sapphire Ball In Aid Of Cancer Awareness and in Johannesburg at the Grand Lyric Theatre.
She recently collaborated with Shubhendra Rao and Sakia De Haas on a Spiritual Music Project, performed at the Satya Sai Centre, New Delhi and also performed for the Urz of the Sufi Inayat Khan where she fused Gospel music with an Indian Classical sound.
Sonam's repertoire is composed of personal favourites, each of which holds a special meaning for her. Lively jazz favourites like Fever, My Way, Besame Mucho, Mack the Knife and Orange Coloured Sky complement classics like the Irish ballad, Danny Boy and the eternally moving Amazing Grace
