Today we'll be kicking off our grand journey through the Hunter X Hunter world with our ever amazing protagonist, Gon Freecss! From his creepy rivalry with Hisoka, to his everlasting friendship with Killua and his ultimate mission to find his father, Ging. Also Leorio and Kurapika may show up. Every now and then...

I used to think Gon was a typical shonen protagonist. Then I read the Chimera Ant arc then watched the anime. Nothing screams Darkside like repeatedly smashing a head until it turns into a chutney like paste.

I dont think kids will not find all the nen explanations by the narator fun, main reason why hxh is not considered best anime in my opinion. happy birthday gon!!! my favorite character in hunterxhunter (with killua being 2nd as they're both cinnamon rolls whose friendship was the best part of hunterxhunter to me and was my favorite interactions in shonen jump,especially in the cute hunterpedia shorts.)and definitely one of my favorite shonen jump heroes.(along with luffy.it's so cool to see they share the same birthday as i like them both especially gon's child moral and luffy's blunt determination/caring for freedom of himself and others despite the worlds views that makes them more interesting than the shonen jumps other "big three" protagonist,especially with how gon has fulfilled his goal and the series knows to not focus/force him into the story at the moment.i honestly would love to see a shonen jump crossover movie/ova/console game similar to jump super/ultimate stars that has the 2 and other shonen jump characters having fun interactions in dream setups.:3)

Personally I think I would have been happier watching the two recap episodes and Starting on the second arc but that's me. I was watching the Dub, so I haven't worked up the will to switch to the Sub yet. It's a good anime, it just doesn't hook me well enough.

ObserveMedia Yea, the opening arcs are a bit awkward, even the tone bounces around a bit. The York New arc is where the show really tales off, which is coincidentally just after all the story work and nen is established and explained

Did Gon really go back to being a regular teenager that has to do school work and all? I hope he returns cause damn, he’s admittedly my favourite character alongside Killua. It would hurt to see him go and not be present during the future arcs. It would be nice to see him happy and live a normal life tho, but OH GOD I really hope that he wouldn’t just sit idle in one comfortable spot- I’m just so attached to him at this point lmao. Gon knew Ging made Greed Island as soon as he stepped into the game. He knew this because of the memory card given to him by Ging. Also, he got Ging's Hunter License from Kite *after* he met Kite in the Chimera Ant Arc, not on Whale Island.

It's amazing to remember that Gon's greatest potential was unlocked at the expense of everything he had, revealing that he has potential power comparable to the king... but so does Killua. Considering Wing described them both as 1 in million. The entire show (in my opinion at least) continuously implies that they're both really close in terms of overall power (aura quantity if you will). Although Killua could be slightly stronger. Who knows.
