Good luck to you. The sad thing in todays world is. "It is Not what you know, but who you know." That is why so many dumb people have jobs that they don't have a clue what to do, but they are there because they know someone who put them there.

Thank God for those helmets you never know when a shipping container is going to fall on you.

Lashers wear helmet because stackers often fall out above them and can bounce pretty far.

If those guys had a good union and were paid $1m each shippers might figure a safer, better way. This is stupid. All locks should be digitally remotely controlled. Below decks container slots control the boxes. they should extend above decks as well. Lashing containers is like throwing a net over them.

Most western countries are organized in this industry. Electronically remote controlled cones would never be strong enough to handle all the beating of the job. Plus would be prohibitively expensive. This thing is stupid though just for the fact that it completely traps you if something goes wrong.

Automatic twistlocks exist today (no need for them to be remote controlled though, they are just designed in a way that they unlock when you lift the container up), but manual twistlocks were standards for dozens of years, there must be millions of them, replacing them all will take a long time.

@@tibop6709the do exist yes. Only after loading the containers with these automatic twistlocks, they still manually have to be put into the “locked” position.

i work in this and have an union work this things are safe they have a lip at the bottom so it doesnt crush your arm. Also electronic twistlocks are a bad idea as mechanic automatic twistlocks exist

This is cheapest way for corporations to maximize their profit....until more arms are crushed, workers are killed or labour is strong enough to enforce their own union,, this dangerous work will continue underpaid. Industry does not just give ,safe working conditions and decent wages.......workers form strong unions and fite. Study your history dock workers Steel workers, coal miners!
