At about 00:58 in this video... *_"You never know when a winch may come in handy."_* The same is true for *_wench._* {Yeah, my humor has gotten a bit more warped over the last couple of years...🤭}

It appears you are awaiting your first spring trip. All prepped and ready to go. I could almost hear you chomping at the bit.

While we do ride year around, we take our long trips in Spring and Fall. I'm so looking forward to going somewhere instead of "here".

Great info on what you carry. The ratchet strap as a winch is a brilliant idea! I have been considering a come-a-long addition, but now I will consider the strap instead. A small adjustable wrench on the lever and you should have plenty of power to get the rig out. Thanks!

I'm under no delusion about that little ratchet strap, but I'm telling you, compared to nothing it is a life saver. It got me out of being stuck in a muddy hole I was dumb enough to stop in. I pulled the rig up a little more than a foot, blocked it from rolling and unwound the strap and repeated, took me 4 times but in less than 20 minutes I was out. I didn't even have to use leverage, the handle was enough. Thanks for watching!

@@GoneUraling I ordered a Camco strap. Not sure what brand yours is, but they all seem to look alike. Looks better than using a two piece setup where you only get a few inches at a time. Thanks again for the great idea!

I have Geico full coverage insurance on my sidecar rig. For $20 a year extra you get unlimited road service for 75 MI. They pay their drivers more money than AAA so the drivers tend to get to you sooner. Great company great service I have been with them 16 years ensuring all of my motorcycles. AAA left the chaplain of the American Legion Riders chapter maroon in my driveway because they brought him gas one time and they counted it as a tow and told him he was basically shit out of luck my party with a trailer gave him and his bike a ride home. He didn't think that bringing him gasoline c o u n t e d a s a tow, but AAA does.

I have Progressive, been happy with it so far, only ever needed one tow and my Son came with our truck and trailer. I don't recall the range, but Progressive does offering towing coverage as well. I've heard a lot of bad things about AAA including from my own Parents who RV'd full time. Wouldn't touch them.

@@GoneUraling I worked for GEICO for 17 years, I am insured with Progressive too, 'nough said? I have towing with Progressive and AAA moto-tow and AMA moto-tow, haven't used any of them..

I would suggest a clutch cable too, plus the other stuff you carry. They break when you least expect it. You know, like when your newer Ural needs tires and can't make it to Asheville so you take the older one and it's cable breaks, about 1 mile from YOUR house... yeah, that happened, have a new one now...
@GoneUraling

Just use a large screwdriver and a hose clamp, then pry the clutch manually from the right side where the screwdriver is sticking out. Spare clutch cable is not a bad idea though.

One thing I would suggest that you do c a r r y would be a fire extinguisher. You never know when you might need one of those, and like a gun it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I agree, very valuable. I do keep a tiny one in the trunk so I can get to it faster. Toyed with the idea of an external mount for it but have not decided where to put it yet. I'll have to do a full "Everything we keep on our rigs" one day, spares and all.
@GoneUraling
@GoneUraling 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'll do that next time we take a big trip where we completely strip and reload the rigs.

Very well thought out. Would you please let us know what is the inner size of the ammo can? I am thinking getting one for a RotopaX 1 Gallon Gasoline Pack 14 x 10 x 4 . I can’t find the sizing anywhere on the web. Thank you in advance. JL

If the urals we're still carbureted, instead of fuel injected, you would be able to start the bike with a flat battery. They took such a nice simple motorcycle that was reliable and simple to troubleshoot and simple to fix. Between the fuel injection and all its crapola, the disc brakes, and all the fancy Electronics on that bike they have spoiled the bike. It was a nice simple tank of a motorcycle, and now they have made it as soft and delicate as today's version of SUVs that need you to cut the grass in the woods in order to drive the car in them. I actually saw that on a commercial where the wheel slipped and it came up pack with a great big Matt of cut grass stuck together left hand rear wheel. They only make 2,000 motorcycles a year, why they don't get a low production emission regulation exemption from euro-5 I have no idea. And I don't think anybody with a 20-something thousand-dollar euro is going to go in the woods anyway. Maybe down a dirt road but that's probably about it. Love watching your videos always learn something new.

I just try to enjoy what is in front of me and not think about all the negatives. I had an option to buy a couple of 2013's, but I really like our 2017s with the GenII EFI on them. There have been major improvements beyond all the EPA crap and I too wish they could have made all the non-EPA improvements to the rigs while keeping carburetors.
