I don't understand the concept of "contracting sound". Can you please elaborate? Thanks

Contracting sound is the opposite of Expanding sound. Contracting sound is the effect of sound being pulled inward as opposed to the Expanding sound being pushed outward.

I do understand the meaning of words. I think due to the nature of physics it is not applicable in case of playing gongs as vibrations travel from the gong outwards as it is being hit by a mallet.
