I used to visit 공주 공산성 quite often and I lived in Daejeon. Now I am in London, Ontario. I shared this with my Canadian friend who lived in Daegu for 4 years and taught english.

Ah London, Ontario. That was my home for the 8 years before I moved to Korea. I used to live downtown on St George street, and also on Kent Street. Before that I lived up by the university. Good times in London.

@@DanDoesKorea If you're just starting to learn about Korean history and want to read a truly fantastic book, I'd highly recommend Bruce Cumings' "Korea's Place in the Sun: A Modern History". The focus is of course on Korea's pivotal 20th century history (get the revised 2005 edition) but it also dives into Korea's pre-20th C history as well. One of the best books on Korea in the English language period.
@DanDoesKorea3 жыл бұрын
@@coltranecave5503 I'll look for it for the Kindle!! Thanks for the recommendation :)
@coltranecave55033 жыл бұрын
@@DanDoesKorea No problem. Unlike other history books, it isn't dry - Cumings is a very literate, cultured writer with a sharp sense of humour. It made me both better understand Korea - the good things and the bad - and feel more grateful for having lived there for 3 years. It does require an understanding of the basics of 20th century world history (he is a scholar after all and assumes a somewhat decent knowledge-level on the part of the reader at times) but it's very rewarding.

Gongju was a capital city of ancient Baekje Kingdom during Three Kingdoms period in Korea. So, it was quite an important city.

@DanDoesKorea3 жыл бұрын
Korea does an excellent job of keeping up the grounds in places like these. There are a lot more 'off the beaten track' hikes in the mountains. Working up to those. This was the first hike of the year for me. Getting a late start.

@@DanDoesKorea Yeah exercise is quite important. Alot of foreign teachers in china complaint about getting fat due to lack of exercise. But for me I only had a weight issue in China 1 time during my second year from eating so much sweet and sour pork. It took me 3 weeks to shed the 10lb I gained. But at my age of 44, I've been awesome at the gym. Dining tables will reopen apparently next week after Victoria day as the counts of covid patients have gone down. My friend from north Vancouver island doesn't like things in Vancouver lately since finishing quarantine. He will return to Seoul in August what he tells me. When you go home you might also find it alittle culture shocking too Dan. I know I was struck of the changes when i came home after 8 and half years in China in 2013. I stuck around home for 16 months and than went back to China again. I still get offers from my former school headmasters but I really dont want to go back to China. I'm focused about SK. Had you been to Busan ?
