What we are seeing from the Zags this season is a new normal with the arrival of the "transfer portal" & 'NIL". It is near to impossible to establish a cohesive/synchronized basketball unit with a basically "free agent" roster. Coach Few has done a wonderful job this year. I want this to go on the record. I wouldn't be surprised if this is Few's last season at Gonzaga. Few may jump to the NBA. It wouldn't surprise me if he coaches the Golden State Warriors. Few gets along with Steve Kerr and the Warriors style of basketball is very similar to Gonzaga's. If this does happen this will place Few in a good position to be the head-coach of any future Olympic games. Steve Kerr's shelf life of being a coach is about to expire. Graham Icke had a good game against UCLA. UCLA's post man was very weak. This player would never have made the starting lineup or maybe the team during UCLA's golden years under famed head-coach John Wooden. With regard to Nembhard. It would have been nice if he would have made that crucial free throw. To be fair since he is a point guard. Scoring is not crucial for his position. His primary job is to distribute the ball not score. When Nembhard has to score the rest of the team stands around there is no motion. Lastly this is a good team. This team has the potential to get "hot" latter in season and could run the table during tournament time.

Bizzare that ref crew wouldn't go to the monitor for elbow to Innocenti when it seems like all contact above the shoulders these days gets a review

This team feels less than the sum of its parts and is bolth completely unable to close games and get more than 2 players to play well at a time...

agree, i’m hoping it’s more of a cohesion issue but something needs to change for this team to be consistent.

Do we know why Hickman didn’t start? Also, Gregg needs to start. Ajayi had his chance and he’s proven he can’t handle the speed of real competition

I think Ajayi is a better 1 on 1 defender, so wonder if that's why he starts? I'm with you though, and I hope they put him back in the starting rotation because he seems to have a knack for getting extra possessions from his hustle plays.

@ yeah thats a good point, he is a better defender overall. He has better tools overall to be an amazing player but just can’t seem to handle the speed of the game. But yeah Gregg has earned his starting spot back because at least he can generate some value, not always a lot, but at least some.

I lost a lot of respect for Jimmy Jackson. He actually changed his argument depending on the plays. With Battle he said intent didn’t matter. Later with Ike he said you had to look at intent.

I think these first few games, Mark Few needs to provide some isolation for Ajayi to show what he has. his performance is ridiculously bad on paper for his resume, but is it Fews style? he just can' the on the floor if he fails to score every game.

That is a concern if this is best officiating team. All 3 tech calls are suspect. Not reviewing charge and likely F1 is inexcuseable. 3pt defense cost us the game...we will be Elite 8 !

Last year was one of Few’s best coaching jobs. Got the most out of a bunch of new pieces. This year might be one of his worst. Getting seemingly the minimum out of a bunch of talented and returning pieces. Part of that could just be variance in a small sample size of close games, but not winning ANY of the games we’ve lost seems like coaching has to have played a role.

These are perhaps the best crew of officials in college bball for anyone who knows the game. I'd say it was about as well officiated of any game I've watched this year. They maybe missed a couple of calls all game. Certainly the refs did not determine the outcome like they do in many games. Overall excellent officiating for this one. If I look at Zags down the stretch it seems obvious the so called best point guard in college hoops made two poor plays in the last minute, the alligator free throw followed by taking a 3 before he needed to. But rarely does one see a college game played well nowadays. It's mostly about the 3 ball and UCLA won the 3 ball shooting contest today. That is the basics of why this game went their way.
