stumbled on this today...amazing. die hard Dolls fan (my kids 1st concert) and always loved Petty ( saw him 10+times live)...but when the Goo Goo Dolls sang this at the Concert for America (?) I remember thinking it was the cover, of any song I had ever seen. it became my 1st tattoo (American Girl/flag 😊) and they have never let me down when they cover it again aĺl these years later. it is a testament to their talent that even now, there are those of us loving the GGD and this song...20+ years later. Rzeznik is beauty...Robbie is unmatched..and they are always so great. so awesome to know that the young fans know good music and talent! LOVE THIS!

Not a big Petty fan but love the Goo and this cover. They did this for the concert of NYC in 01-02 after 9/11. That was amazing too. Still listen to this video a lot. Can't get enough. Way to go John

I was in NYC for The Concert For New York, it was Oct. 20, 2001; and So Incredibly Heartfelt, each Performance of music, short films, and Speakers were So Important to All Families and Friends; it began a Healing For Every Person there and watching around the World Thank You for sharing, Peace 🌎 ✌️

Look up the Buffalo July 4th show, that was amazing and I live in Buffalo so, yeah I sat in a monsoon to see the Dolls!!

What I love about GGD is that they take songs that aren't theirs and make them theirs. Tom Petty's original is amazing and as such can't be beaten, but they turned it into something else entirely.

Dude I live in a place called Blasdell, NY. It's literally 15 mins to a 1/2 tops to get right to the City of Buffalo. Met Johnny, Robby and Mike before they were big stars! I actually got to play with them one night at the Continental. Drunken jamming is the best. That's where the Goo Goo Dolls got their start. We always knew they would be big someday, but what day??? We are very proud of the Goo Goo Dolls, and they love to talk about Buffalo. One of my top 5 bands/artist because, Elvis was the King, The Beetles deserve #2, The the Nighty Mighty Iron Maiden, and then The Goos so they are #4. I( think even they would say that's a really fair place for them. Zeppelin sucked live so screw them. Aerosmith were the toxic twins so, I'm sure they had real stinkers, especially the remake of Walk This Way with RUN DMC!!!! That's my opinion and I left a lot of people out because I'm sure you don't read War and Peace. I thought about this and Pink Floyd is #5!!

*Greg Suran*. Brad didn’t join till 2006, and this was from 2003. He of the best guitar players few know the name of. One of my friends mom’s was childhood best friends with him and he sent me a birthday note. He is now on the American Idol house band during the live rounds.
