Terraria > Minecraft. Not sure if anyone gives a shit, but my reasoning for that statement is: Minecraft was going in a certain direction, once upon a time, then it seems to have got completely lost, while Terraria has steadily kept on, and fulfilled its potential. Yes, I will bring up the hunger update. To me, it seemed like up to that point Minecraft wanted to be an aesthetically simple but pleasing, creative building game with some light action elements. Then it jumped the shark. It added a ton of RPG elements it didn't need, and didn't really create substantial content to justify the features. Enchanted tools? What for, you're still gonna be digging out the same boring old ores. Ditto for weapons and armour. The whole game has like what, 2 bosses, and a handful of unique biomes. In Terraria, there is a steady feeling of progress, of your efforts getting you somewhere and allowing access to more challenges and content to explore. In Minecraft, all these half-baked RPG mechanics have no real purpose. You can gather a fuckton of the rarest ore in the game, beat the more difficult of its two bosses, build a pyramid out of said ore, and what do you get? A weak buff in a 5 feet area around your structure. Gee, thanks, that really gives me a sense of accomplishment, and totally doesn't make me feel like I wasted precious hours of my life on nothing. People keep saying comparing Minecraft and Terraria is unfair since they're completely different games, but I don't reckon so. Minecraft has dabbled enough in the whole action-RPG genre to be judged on similar grounds to Terraria, and sadly, it doesn't measure up. Sure, if you wanna build huge imposing replicas of stuff and what have you, Minecraft is right up your alley, but you're gonna be doing that in creative mode. Survival in the meantime really feels empty and lifeless compared to Terraria.

Spoder Men Terraria's 2D nature does limit building, though I've seen some very neat stuff built in it. And yes, even the biggest Terraria map is far smaller than a Minecraft world, but that doesn't bother me much, there is still plenty to find underground, and the varied biomes make it fun. I think what I find the most enticing about Terraria though is the loot and items to find. Minecraft is an okay game, but I got bored of exploring after a while, and I think I kinda lack the creativity (and patience) to start gigantic building projects, which is probably why I ultimately started playing Terraria instead.

Damn I just came back for the nostalgia. I've played terraria since 1.1, when hallowed armour was the best you could get. Man what a good few years it's been. And no way it's been 3 years since 1.3s release. It feels way shorter tha that. On 0:42 you can see that he's wearing dinosaur like armor, which in theory, comes from the fossil ore you see at 1:06 if you have an eagle eye.
