Getting 2 in the net fishing for my Patreon this week was solid but I struggled in these 3 You Tube clips. I was one fish away from a skink every day. They were nice fish though.

You have more patience than me fishing the Big T when the water is high like it is right now. Gotta cover a lot of water to get one this time of year. Congrats on the Downtown Brown! That stretch of water you got it in always somehow holds lots of quality fish!
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
Fishing that high water thoroughly is labor intensive. With all of the difficulties that come with fishing flows on the lower side, at least you can look at the river and see the spots that a large fish would hold up in.

Awesome brown man, I'm always fishing the Truckee and I'm hoping to run into you someday. I just caught a huge brown in one of those holes downtown there.

Right on. There's a lot of quality fish in the urban centers. It's snowing like crazy right now. I'm glad I squeezed this fishing in.

I was able to get 2 in the net but had several more that popped off the fly today. I'm new to fly fishing but have had sooo much more luck since I've started throwing the Indicator.

that one looked a little chunky! Good looking brown!
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that trout was fat. The fishing wasn't exactly smoking hot so I was glad to get that one quick. The fishing was tough all week for me! A lot of water to figure out now. I've refined my deeper water approach so I think that will help me through the Spring.

That looks like the upstream end of 2nd street. Idlewild is a nice area.
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
There is a lot of good water to fish there. Especially when the water is high. It can be tougher fishing but the stretches where you can cast at larger fish and not spook them goes way up under these conditions.

Well done another nice Brown, make the whole day good when you land one early in the morning. I think you should invest in another net before you regret when it fails at the most inconvenient time! If not a new net invest in some JB-weld!! Yesterday and today weather on this side of the hills has been a mess. Your new work schedule should be fun this summer looking forward to the extra content!
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
The net is solid! I'm going to try to ride it out a couple of more weeks! I beat that net to death ripping it through brush and using it as a stabilizer when I'm climbing up things and wade across rivers. I'm going to be really tired but my new job was necessary to keep things going and advancing. The 12 hour days are rough but the days off are going to be worth it. Especially when I use vacation time. I'm hitting Yosemite at least twice this year. Hoping to head North more too. Man, it's dumping snow in Reno right now. I'm glad I went this morning.

Wow that’s a lot of water ! Nice catch !!
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
Right. It's flowing and I think it's time to start getting used to that in any river we try to fish over the next few months. Just let the water be clear. The rest can work itself out once the fishing starts.

I broke down and got another net today. I had the last few larger trout I caught causing the net to fall apart leaving them hanging in the rubber net with just half of the frame connected to the handle. I'm done with that!

@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
There was one other dude I saw across the river from me but other than that there was no one else. I almost wanted to grind it out and fish more upstream but I had done enough hiking up and down a river over the past couple of days to keep me in check.

Amani is there a certain CFS you look for when river fishing? I’m monitoring the flows of some california rivers I want to fish, but the cfs looks a little too high in most due to the rain and runoff. Is there a certain cfs you think is the best?
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
It's one of those things where I know it when I see it! A lot of the time, the perfect flow for jig fishing depends on how fast the water is moving in different section of the river and over different types of river bottom. The flow that's best in an area with a lot of boulders won't be so good in a more featureless or deeper section. I hike a lot of river bank so I just adjust when I hit whatever comes next. I got really efficient at fishing lower flow situations with jigs over the past couple years but I think that attack is about to get put into storage for a while. It's big flow attack time!

Hey Amani, I’ve never eaten a brown trout before and noticed you usually only eat rainbows. Is the taste that different. Thanks
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
Browns are good. I only fish rivers catch and release these days but I eat the ones I get in reservoirs when it's cold from time to time. They're good to eat. I would say cold water brookies, then rainbows, then browns are the way I'd rank them. Not really into cutthroats, mackinaw, or golden trout. Those are too fishy.
