He isn't really a Hollywood kid though His dad is a big Canadian comedic actor but not really huge in terms of Hollywood , he is mostly known for American Pie in the US I don't even think Dan grew up in LA either Schitts Creek was entirely produced in Canada So Dan's experience isn't quite that of a standard Hollywood kid The actress Kristen Kreuk said canadian productions tend to be low budget and its more about people working together to get stuff done So I'm not sure he had a super glamorous hollywood style upbringing even if his Dad made a lot of money

Since I learned about Daniel Levy, 10 years ago (from "Schitts Creek")....I always found him to be: EXTRA. He tries too hard to duplicate the humor/charm/charisma of his father. Also, I always felt he "dialed-up" the gay, feminine stereotype too much. It just seems like he's a caricature, with no real personality. No, I don't have any home movies of Daniel.😆 But, something tells me he assumed an identity and ran with it. Lastly, this movie is proof Dan was raised in a bubble and never struggled, financially. He's a rich kid who tries to write a story.....as if he knows the struggles of the every day man/woman. OF COURSE his story includes an expensive apartment in Paris. What other life experiences would he know about? Public school? Living in an old....pre-WWII building? Low-income housing? Come on. He continues to receive these opportunities BECAUSE he's a nepo-baby/son of Eugene.

Ya’’ll tore this film a new one. I watched it last night and you’re absolutely right. Neither the characters nor any of the subplots were fleshed out and Levy’s character was so mild in his emotions that it was hard to feel anything for anyone. I will say that i did feel some kind of way when you went in on Ruth Negga’s character but that’s just my bias to seeing this pint sized beauty on screen and upon reflection can’t really disagree.

What made me underwhelmed was the scene from the trailer with marcus talking about the brain as a muscle and the brain still performs as the deceased person is still there * cues scene to Marcus looking at empty pillows next to him* what even was the routine that this couple had that his brain is trying to get over? What routines were disturbed by Oliver’s death? Because from information given about Oliver’s career Oliver traveled a lot of slept out in different cities. How was waking up together something that’s so routine that has to reprogram. On Sophie it would have made more sense if she was at least a put together person who unraveled after her getting dumped and none of her friends noticed because of how withdrawn they are dealing with their own grief. On Thomas it would have been interesting for him to react to marcus choosing an open relationship with Oliver despite marcus agreeing to the relationship being open “out of fear” over marcus being in a relationship with Thomas. The film was alot of wasted potential.

Wake me up when someone makes a good movie about gay men that does not require any of the characters to either commit suicide, be murdered, or die in some other way. People raved about "The Whale", which was a cinematic over-achiever for that genre in that one gay man jumped off a bridge to his death due to parental disapproval and the other committed slow suicide via food and obesity. I can't think of a lazier and more played out way to extract emotion from audiences.

Great review! What an insufferable film. Dan Levy - as writer and actor - should stick to over the top comedy. He either does not understand or cannot pull off drama. A drama feature requires so much more depth. The characters were terrible and flat, the play out was boring and the so called lessons they learned were so verbose and preachy. Having a partner die at a point where you do not really care for the protagonist or their relationship is almost certainly death, no pun intended. Am shocked that Netflix green lit this and that people are raving about it, clearly still experiencing the hangover of Schitt's Creek, which was brilliant but which should have zero bearing on a totally different project.

Great review guys! Thank you for your honesty. Two things you didn't mention; - Ms. Valentine (at the funeral) didn't appear to have implants (as it was mentioned she did five minutes earlier). That's poor casting. - The distraction on Dan Levy's chin. Is it a blemish? A wart? If the latter, he can afford a good plastic surgeon that won't leave a scar. That aside, his character comes across as really immature for a 40 year old guy.

I wanted to like this movie but I found most of the characters to be unrelatable and just annoying. The only I can relate to was Luke Evans character Oliver and how he kept another life with another person other than his life partner played by Dan Levy because I have done it. We have that perfect life but somehow I felt the need to explore relationship with someone else un I was sure of my own feelings to make a decision. Selfish I know. I chose to stay with my partner of 20 years as he was home to me. This movie had so much potential, but it just lacking the necessary details and flow for a cohesive story.
