Awesome little short. Checked it out on Vimeo and it looks even nicer without the youtube compression. I really liked the backlit shot in the woods. Very cinematic. I assume you shot in Slog2? Was this internally recorded? Would def love to see a BTS of how you lit everything.

Thank you! Yes, we tried to optimize it for youtube, but it looks better in Vimeo, I guess that is no shock to anyone! We shooted it using Slog-3 actually. It was internally recorded, yes. And we try to publish some bts of the making, sadly there is only 24 hours in a day! ..but there is few pointers seen in our colorists Instagram: instagram.com/juusomjokinen/

Looks like you used the entire sensor. I think I read that shooting at 3.8k gives you the full sensor height/size. And 4K crops it? Shooting a commercial soon and the agency wants to use this camera. What resolution did you shoot at and/or did it vary? The goal is to optimize as much of the sensor as possible for a full 16x9 delivery.

Thanks! The average ISO was only 800 or so, meaning it requires good lights and planning!

@@TheStoryfi oh wow. As a person who just got the fx3 what’s the highest iso you usually go before it gets to noisy to your liking? I’ve just been trying to stay at both native iso of 640 and 12800

​@@LeapingDogFilms well, it depends, but we try to be as low as possible all the time with the ISO. And we do concentrate A LOT for building up the lights. So we are constantly checking and calculating the light values from the monitor. Where there is too much light and where it doesn't exist. We use haze in every scene and when noise/grain is seen in our film material, that is created in post! ..but of course, if you are shooting alone (or don't have a small crew), it is more complicated and requires more work of course. And sometimes you just don't have the time to play with the lights. But Sony handles ISO pretty good and you can move it in post production of course. ..but if you have the opportunity to choose, we don't want any noise or grain there. I think it is also important what you want to achieve with the end product. Meaning what attracts you picture-wise!

@@TheStoryfi awesome thanks for the tips! I plan on shooting some night scenes in the woods so I’m trying to figure out the best way to execute while also having a pretty minimal setup. Planning on mainly using a apature 120D M2 on full blast with a mini dome, might use a hazer, and do something (bounce or just add another light) to add a little light on the shadow side.
