Mr Firefighter all the blessing to you and your family. NOW. Life has already sent you a message, when it comes to your JJ journey and you have to excepted it of make waves for yourself. Now according to the message you sent to Professor Ryan, it shows that in those 12 years you didn’t want to quit and you went as much as possible, till the present time, that tells me you truly enjoy JJ, so the passion is there. But sir don’t buy in to that bullshi# of, “If I compete I’ll get better” or the other one “If you don’t compete I can promote you”, There is so much more to say, but ill leave you with this. If you decide to do this , automatically the law of injury will come in to play and it isn’t in anyones favor young or old in JJ. If it happens to you this is what your classmates are going to say, and I am quoting quotes. “ Dam that sucks I hope he gets better, he such a nice guy, but it’s part of the game”. You don’t need to compete and take that chance. Just enjoy JJ and if it happens then fine, but not for a freakin medal that’s not paying the mortgage. FYI: married 37 years, 3 kids, 3 grandkids, MA for 34 yrs, 6 of them in JJ currently a purple belt. What ever your choice enjoy the Journey 🙏🙏 OSS

Masters divisions seem designed to make divisions where you can test your skills fairly. You have accomplished more in your life than a hyper focused 20 year old competing at worlds. Go out and compete! It will focus your training and expand your social circle. Involve your family in your cardio, flexibility, and strength training and everyone can get healthier and stronger together. Also your kids seeing you on the mats will inspire them as well.

I think he should compete masters 2 not adult division because masters is very high level which he would find challenging enough. Train smarter developing and game plan, drilling focused on the game plan, roll with focus on scoring points, get cardio with more swimming or jogging, and eat healthier. It is possible to compete at your age with your obligations. I’ve been training and competing since white to black belt myself. Make it happen or continue making excuses 😎🤙🏻

I don't want to compete before I have a better defence. Btw an argument to train JJ is health too, if you practice it with the right intensity of course. Because JJ is a rather complete sport.

I like the Jar 🫙 Analogy. I subconsciously did the same thing, as I have a Wife and Three Kids. I’m a Police Officer so the hours are demanding. Luckily my School has daytime classes and we also train between shifts. It’s best for me training and lifting weights when my Wife and Kids are in School. I haven’t been able to compete as much as I would like, but once my Kids get older, I’ll have something to do.
