Don't have an Alexa but I've put Dancing In The Moonlight on anyways, just to join in

OMG Myspace, what a throwback! I started following you, Carrie, on there after discovering McFLY back in 2007, I realised that we were the same age and I think you actually accepted my friend request lol. I really loved your original songs, my favourite one was called Hearts & Roses haha! I've been a fan of yours ever since and I'm so proud of the woman you've become and all you've achieved

Dancing in the Moonlight is such a good song but it was never the same for me after one of my High School classes one day. We were bored and asked the teacher if he could put the radio on (sidenote: why was playing music always the solution to a boring class?) The teacher replied that the radio didn't work but he did have a tape he could play. For the next 90 minutes (double period), he played the single tape of Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader on repeat. It had 2 tracks - the original version and then a remix that sounded very similar to the original version. By the end of the class, I not only knew every word to a song that had previously been mostly background noise in my life, I also heard things in the song I'd never heard before (instruments, backing vocals etc) and most importantly, I learned NEVER to ask that teacher to play music again. But for those of you who haven't binge listened to the song against your will and lived to regret it, I hope you enjoyed the dance party :) It is a good song!

In addition to social media, generations from millennials and younger have grown up with an interest in musical theater because of the Disney renaissance. Many of the movies were done by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who also did Little Shop of Horrors. I would think having that would also increase the audience for more musicals.

Thanks for using my email ❤️ social media has made musical theatre/ theatre in general so much more accessible to everyone and i love it! Cant imagine life without it now and how awful lockdown would have been without it. Wish i could have joined in the conversation! Thanks again! X

36 degrees?! In England wow as an Aussie that's shocking. That's a normal summer day my area of Sydney's western suburbs. Yes, it was different back in the day. I've seen so many great stars of live theatre in the 70s and 80s that I no longer have ANY idea who they were. I probably didn't even look at their names because there was no means of finding out anything else about them. LOL know what else I was doing in the 70s? Listening to Dancing in the Moonlight! So glad that song made a comeback.

I used to stay up late on Thursdays to listen to a radio programme called Songs From Musicals. This was how I discovered musicals as a teenager. Of course I’d still be limited to only knowing the whole story if I could find the soundtrack on CD or if the show came to town.

My parents are fans of musical theatre so naturally, I was brought up with musical theatre from the start. However, I didn’t quite understand the meaning of some songs when I was younger, and when I suggested to my primary school choir at the age of nine to sing “Man Wanted” from Copacabana, I didn’t understand why some teachers were so against the idea and were shocked I knew such a raunchy and risqué song.

Time out was the best source of theatre stuff. In the 90’s, I used to get a meal, see a show and have a drink at half time ,,,, all for a tenner. I saw loads of opera, ballet, theatre and musical theatre on a first-job salary. You absolutely cannot now, so where’s the progress there??? I realise you had to actually be able to read a paper to see what was going on, and this is beyond most teenagers, but you didn’t need social media. This was a time before mobile phones and the internet. And I’m not even that old!!!!!!!!!!!!
