This is so incredibly relevant today with the neo-McCarthyism going on in US discourse right now. Hatred of Trump (while valid in my opinion) has been warped into this narrative of Anti-Russia as if we're at war with them again when we're not. Hope to see this hysteria die just like this previous iteration did. We need to go about finding ways for peace not creating new enemies and new boogeymen (with little to no evidence).

No movie is more relevant to today and the past 44 months than Good Night, And Good Luck. I saw it in the theaters on its opening weekend in 2005. Sad how hardly anyone seems to know this movie. That's very much by design. This was effectively blacklisted and memory-holed because it so effectively exposes tyranny and truth.

Ed Murrow wanted to see Television used to inform and educate the public in addition to just providing entertainment. How shocked he would be I think to see what News Stations have become in this era - spewing falsehoods, lies, conspiracy theories. I'm sure he would have said - better to have left TV's to be merely wires and lights in a box.

@Robert Courtemarche I wanted to like this movie, I went in not expecting much but not having any negative impressions either. And yet around halfway through I really couldn't help but wonder why I should be caring about anything that's happening. The characters are paper thin, their relationships are nonexistent, and the decision to have the entire film shot indoors really made it feel dead and uninspired. I get that the historical events being depicted are important, but it doesn't do a good job of making it feel that way; it's just a bunch of deadpan journalists talking about politics for two hours.

@@smokingbrush2498 This isn't a maturity issue; I'm a film student, of course I can appreciate a slow-burn drama. My issue with this movie is how it doesn't really flesh out any of its characters or themes; at least I didn't think it did anyway. To me, every character felt the same, I didn't really pick up any strong personality traits other than a bit from Murrow himself; everyone else feels static and uninteresting. I appreciate the film's message and think the concept was solid, but to me it just lacked personality in every aspect.
