A couple of years after the book was published, I was lucky enough to hear Terry Pratchett talk at my local sci-fi & fantasy group. He said one of the inspirations for the book was the genre of Cold War spy thrillers, where the agents in the field have been there so long that they have more in common with their opposite numbers in the field, than they do with their bosses back home. He also recounted stories of his & Neil Gaiman's attempts to market the story in Hollywood. He described Hollywood film producers as the kind of guys that ask you for a gallon tub of chocolate chip ice cream, but when you give it to them they complain that its full of brown crunchy bits! I'm so glad that Neil got to write and produce this show to adapt it properly, just sad that Terry never got to see it finished.

One of the other main influences, at least for this episode, was the 1976 horror film "The Omen" which is where the idea of the satanic nuns, swapping of the American diplomat's new born son for the baby Antichrist, demonic nanny come from. Of course in "The Omen" the swap goes off without a hitch unlike in "Good Omens". An interesting side note is that the second Doctor from Dr Who Patrick Troughton appeared in "The Omen" playing a priest.

Oh I have been dying to see your reactions for this series. David Tennant is one of my favorite actors ever😁 and Michael Sheen is amazing and just pure chaotic in real life. 😂 So the series is based on a book written by Terry Prachet (English fantasy writer, disc World Series) and Neil Gaiman. He wrote “Coraline (the animated movie) “Stardust”, “American Gods” and “Sandman” (started as a comic book series sans now it’s also a Netflix series) and he even wrote a few episode for Doctor Who. Both Neil and Terry were friends for decades and wrote Good Omens in 1990. Sadly Terry Pratchet passed away in 2015. One of his dying wishes was for Good Omens to be adapted as film/series. Neil made that wish come true for him. He is the show runner and one of the writers for this season. Honestly they are both brillian writers.

Per the book, Crowley didn't fall. He just "sauntered vaguely downwards." There's also a running bit in the book that any mixtape in a car will eventually turn into "The Best of Queen." There book was written in 1991.

So happy that you picked this show to do next! I love this show so much, and am so excited that it has been renewed for a 3rd and final season. I love both Crowley and Aziraphale, but Crowley is my favorite. I am always drawn to the more villainous characters as evidenced by my loving both Hannibal and Lestat. 😆 I really think that you're going to love this show.
