It’s possible. I was in QA for a few years but joined a company that was going to get rid of their QA team and transition them to developers. I was lucky. But I also have an MIS degree and took computer science (learned OOP and C++ and Java), took some DB fundamentals, networking, etc.) so that helped me. Of about 30 QA analysts, there are only 3 that stayed with the company and became developers, and I am on of them. We mainly do backend but are technically full stack developers. It helped that I started doing test automation and coding in my QA role. I would recommend everything stated in this video.

I would like to think that you benefited greatly from this opportunity, well done!! I am now also finding myself transitioning from QA to Dev. I do have test automation experience, I studied programming but ended up in testing due to lack of employment opportunities in my country where I am from (South Africa). I now have over 10 years QA experience but it's no longer bringing fulfillment in my life. I have expressed my interest for development with my current employer and they have agreed to me transitioning, so now I am finding myself doing dev tasks amidst my already crazy busy QA schedule and it is very much fulfilling to solve coding problems 💪and hopefully if all goes well, by September 2024 I will be a Dev. So glad to have read about your story it inspires me even more 🙌

I was almost 3 years experienced QA Engineer and trying to switch to dev for months recently, there were ups and downs for me and left my QA job and for almost 9 months I'm unemployed trying to land a job in backend development by trying to improve myself through learning, hands-on practices etc. And I've stated that in my CV that I'm freelancing in this unemployed process even though I'm not. Is that going to be a problem? Or ok to a bit putting the attention off the unployment status (of course I need to back it up..)

You don't necessarily have to do that. If you are writing code in your job, you can definitely highlight that. In 5 min, experienced interviewers can see through fake experience.

Dev are paid 5X - 10X than QA, QA can be replaced easily by any tom, dick and harry. So better work as dev than QA
@sanketnegi12 жыл бұрын
(I am assuming you are not talking about Manual testers..) Well it depends upon how you work.. If you can be replaced by any Tom Dick and Harry you are doing it wrong.. If dev is earning 5x-10x more than QA.. then QA is doing lot of things wrong and dev is doing a lot of things right.. Sorry but thankfully I know a lot of QA's in my circle who earn more than Dev's with same experience level.. I may not be earning more than Dev's but at par.. Lot depends upon how and where you crack the interview.. negotiation skills, finally your QA skills..

@@sanketnegi1 bro I m QA field what skills are needed to get a good pay
@sanketnegi12 жыл бұрын
@@lankaanuroop3842 it's not just 1 skill.. 1 of my junior has excellent technical skills excellent bug finding skills.. but where he lacks is thinking from a helicopter view.. team work. You need to be a complete package.. He k even for Dev's it is the same.. Only being good at coding is not something that will make you great.. Your vision your thinking your mindset and your efforts. Also say no attitude.. whatever it is give it a shot.. Lot of times I had to do few things without prior experience.. Example load testing and using different tools, I spend extra hours just out of curiosity and willingness to learn.. You also need to know what's happening around..when to use and not use certain tools even when you do not have experience with it.. basically it's not 1 thing which you need to learn and it's done.. be prepared to learn your entire career.. make sure your market value is more not just your current company value.. If something happens to the current company you will not stand anywhere.. If you stop learning high chances of you having a short career or having an average below average package..
