if you saw this lineup of world-class musicians and didn't know better, you'd think the 11 year old would be the weak link. yeah, no. that's not the case and keep in mind they CHOSE to work with her. as good as she is, they have a very wide pool from which to pick. they are working musicians; they have connections. they know people who know people. why would they record with anyone who isn't up to their standards of musicianship? esp a kid? there is no one riding on coattails here. that blows me away. when my 11 year old sister/daughter/cousin/niece (because with yoyoka, I think most of us feel like we're talking about the accomplishments of a close relative. I know I do.) is able to play on par with musicians of this calibre, I'm floored. ps Tony Franklin has toured with Jimmy Page. just sayin

I disagree. I've been a musician since 1992 and have played with and am friends with some of the biggest bands in the world. But I'm also friends with equally talented NOT SO "big bands" and I've seen talent as young as Yoyoka is now, my entire time in the game. So, no, I wouldn't come into a situation automatically assuming the younger person was going to be the weak link. That's ridiculous. And even if I "didn't know better" all I have to do is look at the rest of the line-up to gauge the caliber of all involved. Your entire comment is rhetorical, especially given the fact that Paulie Z on behalf of his brother's foundation has recorded with Yoyoka previously. No offense but you're playing this collaboration up as though Yoyoka Soma just popped up on the scene overnight without understanding what this or why they did it in the first place. Firstly, the girl has played in front of 20,000 people when she sat in with Fallout Boy, another 5000 +, when she sat in with Cyndi Lauper that same year and has over 250 live concerts under her belt in her own band, numerous recordings, song writing credits etc! At the age of eight, she became the youngest drummer ever to sign an endorsement contract with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH, and has since then also signed with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW. And she's been playing drums for 9 years at this point. So, she didn't just fall out of a tree. With that said, I'm not sure you even under stand how these collaborations between Paulie Z and Yoyoka keep happening or what the David Z foundation's purpose is. You may want to do some research to educate yourself on what these sessions are for. The whole point of the David Z Foundation is PRECISELY for them to collab with musicians HER AGE!! It's not like they're not passing up Dave Lombardo to play with her. You say things like "up to their standards" and especially a kid", without understanding that Yoyoka (while professionally skilled) IS THE DEMOGRAPHIC they want for what they're doing, not an anomaly that's destroying drum legends and sitting in like that.
