The fart story scene was completely improvised by robin williams and the laughter by matt damon was genuine. In fact, you may notice the camera was shaking a bit because the cameraman and crew were breaking up with laughter. The director liked it so much, he kept the scene in the film.

I gotchu on the math. The first problem was about walks on graphs, more or less a routine problem in linear algebra. The second problem was also about graphs, determining how many different graphs are equivalent to a given one of a certain shape. That one’s not too hard either. The third problem you asked about is a bit harder, and it’s about finding a formula for the number of ways to color the vertices on that Triforce-looking shape such that no two adjacent vertices have the same color. Although they’re not super-hard or particularly deep problems, they are also not trivial exercises, they are real, and they do look nice on film when you present the shapes and equations for the audience. I pretty much figured as this. As a software engineer, I'm aware that most computer languages look complicated to those who don't understand it, when in reality, it's not all that difficult, it just takes a logical mind to understand. I know mathematics is the same. It's ironic, I can write algorithms in several computer languages, but not so much in mathematics languages.

The math is real, but it's not what they presented it as. They presented a lot of it as something that a serious mathematician would really look deeply at, something that would be meaningful because of its insight, and while they could have used stuff like that they didn't. Nothing in this movie is nothing more than high-level busywork.

@@matthew55793 Eh, the linear algebra stuff, you're right, because hundreds of students would learn that, but some of that is upper division undergrad stuff. Which makes sense narratively. I mean my school had just one undergrad combinatorics class. It's niche stuff, IMHO. Certainly not profound, but that's like 20 kids out of tens of thousands that would come across that stuff in most universities.

Very well put. I got a headache trying to recall my college finite math, etc..and they are real problems. There was just so much rust on my brain it took days to get through the first 2, a month to get thru the 3rd. lol. I entered the banking/finance field where none of this was applicable at Charles Schwab. lol. But it was worth the revisit just to see if I could work thru it. Common core has ruined students minds ( the smart ones). Forcing the top of the class to come down to the idiot level with dots and diagrams when all you need to do is carry a digit to the next column. This is why the avg IQ has dropped 9 points in 30 years. We were taught to learn how to think on our own in the 80s...now they tell them WHAT to think based on 1% of weirdos in this country. Its a shame.

As much as I like reaction videos, there's always a point where everybody ends up doing the same reactions to either movies, series or songs, and it gets predictable and boring. Having had a toxic mother and on a path towards a very destructive life, I had a handful of extremely supportive educators help me find my positive direction. This movie along with “Stand and Deliver” solidified who I am now. Seven years from now I’ll be retiring from a successful career in IT and am planning to get my teaching certification to be a middle school science teacher and hopefully pay back society for what those wonderful educators did for me. There is hope in everyone!

This movie won two Academy Awards, Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams and Best Original Screenplay for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. It was their first ever screenplay. For another Robin Williams movie that will make you cry, you should watch Dead Poets Society. And I think you would love The Shawshank Redemption as well, but can't say why without giving spoilers. It is just the #1 movie on IMDB Top 250 list.

I love that you called Will and Sean’s relationship “symbiotic”. I said it in my head right before you said it, and even though I’ve seen this film at least a couple dozen times, I never quite articulated it that way in my mind, even though it’s kind of abundantly clear, looking back. I grew up with the same type of childhood. I'm 32 years old and I've been and still am healing from it all. If you did not grow up with an abusive / alcoholic environment it's nearly impossible to understand the amount of issues you get downloaded onto you. Everyone basically thinks you're crazy, you get called many names, etc. You learn to lie to protect yourself from an early age even to doctors, "I fell down the stairs and there was a knife at the bottom..." type of lies. It's rough to trust anyone after abuse and lies start early from your "guardians". When there's no one else to take care of you, and you don't believe that any adult wants to actually help you out... you have to do whatever it takes to survive. This movie really helped me not feel alone growing up and really helped me grasp that only I was in the way of a better future for myself.

I studied 5 years of improv at the peoples improv theater and the main reason I did was because one person… Robin Williams. To this very second as I type I still can’t believe he’s dead. I cried when Robin Williams died. Who didn’t cry? He’s one in a trillion. Talent from another dimension. Love love love Robin Williams and this movie. Anything he ever did was like king Midas. I watch a lot of reactions of this movie as it is one of my favorites. Beware copyright strikes for music, the NSA scene monologue, and any of the full monologues, FYI. Many people end up having to cut those. I enjoyed your reaction and I find it really elucidating to see someone react who doesn't have a strong understanding of Will's inherent distrust of everyone. You're in the majority I'm sure, but it's refreshing to see how it looks like from that side; The frustration with his self-sabotage and irritation that he just can't make anything of his talents. It's like you understand on paper, but not internally what it's like to be that broken. I found that refreshing and interesting.

I really enjoyed your reaction to "Good Will Hunting" and I appreciate your lengthy and thoughtful analysis at the end. Your ability to analyze situations and cogently communicate your thoughts demonstrate a maturity that is beyond your years. I happily hit the subscribe button. My only suggestion is to be open to films that don't end happily ever after. Hollywood endings (aka happy endings) tend to be an aspect of formulaic films where one can predict how things will wrap up mere minutes into a viewing. When you mentioned being bothered by unhappy endings, even the next day, it's because a film has stuck with you and has challenged your sensibilities. Nothing wrong with that. One other note, I was glad to see how you picked up on the deep friendships of the guys despite the often rough way they communicated with one another. As a guy who grew up in Massachusetts during the time the film was set, I know how insulting friends, strangely enough, is often a sign of affection that can't otherwise be spoken. For example, when Will said the vehicle he had been gifted was the ugliest car he had ever seen, his friends understood immediately that he both liked the car and appreciated their thoughtfulness. For me, it was one of the most touching scenes in the film.

This movie touches us cause it speaks the truth. Every one with some kind of trauma or PTSD etc is a black belt in self sabotage. And it's reeeeally hard to reprogram yourself and your toxic gut reactions.

Great reaction! I love Williams in this one. He's rightfully loved as a comedic actor, but this is one of those memorable dramatic performances he had that really showed his range and depth of feeling. An absolutely unforgettable performance. I appreciate how much you're getting invested in these movies and are taking the time to look at them analytically as well as emoting to what you see (though that's great too). Not every reactor is as mindful about character motivations and theming as that. I hope you keep it up. Tell your cat I also appreciate them and their vigilance in guarding the wall socket. I support doing random IMDb picks because it can be fun and a good way to start, but whenever you feel comfortable doing so I would still suggest looking for other sources of recommendations. That list has a lot of great movies but is also fairly flawed with a lot of recency bias and weighs votes in a way that a lot of major blockbusters that (while decent movies) maybe shouldn't be on it are there. It tends to over-prioritize American films as well since a disproportionate number of people rating films will be American. 20 of the top 100 are non-English language. Over half the movies in the top 100 came out after 1990 and about a third since 2000, in a medium about 120 years old. To be clear, the movies that are on that list that I've seen are generally good movies and are worth watching, and ultimately you will probably enjoy watching them, but there's also a lot you'll miss out on if you strictly stick to that list long-term. At some point if you feel up to it I would suggest looking up some critics' top film lists, or perhaps things like Oscar nominated films of the past or the AFI (American Film Institute) lists (though the latter also is strictly American cinema by definition), etc. etc. To be clear I'm not saying this is something you need to think about right now, but If you eventually decide that film is a medium you really like and want to explore deeply, this will probably be something you'll want to do at some point.

I certainly feel like he is one of the absolute greats. His very first leading role, when he was barely 31 years old, was in The World According to Garp, based on a novel by John Irving. And per a comment you made around the 14:58 minute mark, that's incorrect...caller ID was already widely available on almost ALL land-line phones back in 1997, since it came out years before in the early 1990s. At first in the early 1990s caller IDs were a separate small device given to you by the phone company to attach to your home phones. But then within months, the push button wireless land-line phones came with the caller-ID feature already built-in, whereby the names and phone numbers were displayed on the phone's screen. I was a teen in the 1990s and remember this very distinctly.

Because everything is interconnected: two of the first people to read this script were producer/director Rob Reiner (who ended up buying the initial rights) and his friend, writer William Goldman. Goldman is best known for his novel THE PRINCESS BRIDE, which Reiner turned into a still-beloved (and still heavily--memed) movie in 1987 that's the go-to for people who need a cinematic happy ending.

Your synopsis of the movie was excellent ... not many pick up on the "love" Wills friends have for him, they aren't envious of him and they want him to reach his full potential ... You're right about the bench speech, it's amazing ... One thing you are wrong about is your "self-doubt" ! You have accomplished something, you've built an excellent YT channel with 15.5 K subs in a short time with some excellent movie reactions & reviews (ok, I've only seen 3 but I would imagine they're all good !) ... Yes, Robin Williams was an amazing actor / comedian /person, it's tragic what he went through in the last few years of his life. If you get chance, I'd love to see you react to 'Dead Poets Society' with Robin W. in fact I'll throw down a challenge to you, to produce the best ever reaction to it ... I think you probably can !

Another great reaction. I just looked at the list and I understand why you are picking movies from it, but it is just opinions. So what matters most is what you personally think of the movie. Out of the movies on the list, I would recommend "To Kill a Mockingbird". It is an older movie but is very important historically. It also has a great script, great acting, and was a protest against racism at a time when racism was rampant. It is Black and White but I'm sure you would enjoy it. Keep up the good work.

Great reaction to Good Will Hunting. You are doing such a wonderful job with your reactions so far, you come across as very charming, honest and connected. Such great performances in GWH and such a mature, perceptive script, especially for two such young men. At the time I was always dreading some story discrediting their screenplay as ghostwritten by someone else, but it never happened, thankfully. Seconding, Dead Poets Society (1989) another of Robin's best performances and a very literate and realistic drama. I lived like him for a long time. Therapy was a long process. What people without near perfect recall do not realize is that you recall trauma perfectly. I'm in my 40's and I can remember things from when I was under 4. I remember my potty training, because my Dad used the fear method. Also, it's really bad for relationships when you can recall entire conversations. My exes really hated me being able to describe not just the words, but the clothing we both were wearing. The dog doesn't have those issues.

Picking from the list is a fine way to do it. If you want to take recommendations from comments I wouldn't do it all the time. Seeing you go in blind of the list is a fun way of doing it. A possible way would be, making your own list from all the recommendations and switch between picking from the "official" list and your own list. But most importantly, just do it the way you prefer yourself. Don't worry to much about wat others (like me ;p) say about it. That includes the "complains" from people that you left out certain part of the movie. You can never make everybody happy. You are doing great, keep it up! :D

Yes! The problem with going by recommendations means all the channels end up reviewing the same things or pet choices.

@@ziggystardog Moreover recommendations tend to come with a synopsis even a short one which may not spoil the movie but give some clue of what it's about And they are often prompted by the movie being reacted to because they're in some way similar or related (Eg green mile always gets recommended on a Shawshank reaction)

The only problem is that list is quite questionable, it has many obligatory classics but it is clear that genres such as thriller and drama predominate considerably over horror or romance. And any fan of movies knows that in a top of inevitable classics there must be everything. The small amount of foreign cinema is also sad. Recommendations can go both ways, repeat the same movies that people ask for or react to other things.

They exist, people just don't know where to look. I've mostly abandoned Hollywood but they still surprise me sometimes. But they exist out there, somewhere. Sometimes as a short TV series, or film that flies under most people's radar or films people avoided because they believed they wouldn't of liked them. When I mean you have to look outside of Hollywood. I mean video games are a good example with some of the best stories the last twenty years, or film/TV markets like Japan's animated film industry which has produced some of the best films of our generation. That being said, not everything is about story telling either. Presentation matters as well. Perfect blend of atmosphere, music, dialogue, camera work. Even if one element is missing it can completely destroy a scene. I mean it is what makes a movie vs just a short story you've read. You can take the best story ever written and still make a bad movie of it even if you have every ounce that story present.

@@Berg126 the % is about the same actually, but they’re not marketed the same anymore because the big franchise movies are what make money. Good Will Hunting, if made today wouldn’t probably even crack the top 25 but back then was in the top 10 box office movies. I don’t blame Hollywood, I blame audiences. Hollywood is a business after all and they have to make money. Audiences spoke with their wallets unfortunately.
