Thanks for the recommendation. Yes I did offer to collaborate with Matthias Wandell a few years ago over another device but got a somewhat cold response but Matthias of course is well known for his inventive wooden machines. No doubt he has already done one. I am surprised others havent jumped on this years ago, but of course in the USA they have all the space in the world and big is better whereas many in the UK especially the young will struggle to even find a tiny shed for a workshop. So really my interest is in creating something incredibly space saving, portable and quiet.

Mathias is a robot, so getting any response from him is going to be the warmest he will ever be 😅😅😅 But yeah, you could ask Izzy Swan, or John Heisz. I am going out on a limb here... but perhaps even Steve Ramsey may respond more warmly?

@@IsaKocoglu Steve will probably respond warmly, but I doubt he would be into this sort of thing. Another woodworking machinist with a lot of talent is Marius Hornberger, and he's on the same continent.

EmcoStar ❤️ I have one myself, but since I‘m from Austria, it‘s easier to find one. I Can recommend the Original Model to everyone, the EmcoStar 2000 is nice as well, but Not as well built and harder to change working positions. There is a Planer attachment as well, called Emco Rex.

I suppose having encouraged the project I feel I should volunteer my services in any way I can bearing in mind I would be a coming from a maker and definitely not a designer.

Thanks Joe - yes you initiated this by your comment on my Facebook page. Actually your suggestion would fit very well as I don't have time to make but I can sketch ideas and design/problem solving is my real passion! But any ideas would we welcome, maybe to brainstorm here such as what primary tool functions and whether it has more than one motor. Linking motors is a challenge I can foresee.

I have an old 40's ShopSmith 10ER, I use it as a drill press. I'm not sure when they stopped making these but there are different models that do everything you would need in a small shop. May give you some ideas.

Thanks, yes I recall these machines. These are combination machines whereas I want to design a compact universal machine that includes key tools such as band saw, router, belt sander, planer etc. that give versatility for a hobbyist.

I wouldn't agree it would do everything I would need. A band saw is an absolute priorirty for versatile cutting and so too a router (see my book The Incredible Router: www.woodomain.com/online-store/Books-c40558220 )

I hope this project gains traction, and look forward to updates on it. Have you seen Marius Hornberger's channel? He's a young guy, but very skilled and has an engineering mindset.

Thanks for your interest. the idea is evolving into a band saw / router based multi function plywood jig, where the jigged attachments are vitsl components for versatility over functionality. I will check this guy out. Its a fellow design (product designer) that I probably need collaboration with but I think I have somebody who will build whatever prototype I come up with.
