It's not a secret anymore that Harvey Weinstein is actually completely insane. Just look at his treatment of directors and their movies, his advertising strategies or especially how he handles movie productions. At first I wasn't a fan of Evan's performance because I felt that he was just playing Post-Avengers Captain America again, but on reflection he was doing the opposite. I feel like I said this before, but this movie was a great opportunity for Chris Evans to show he can actually act if given a decent script and the chance to work with a good director. He's pretty but he can be more than pretty, and we honestly need a lot more people in the movie industry who are in movies for more than their looks. And this is also proof you can do great sci fi with little more than a good story.

Snowpiercer is a refreshing take on action combined with brainy storytelling. It's not convoluted pretentious bullshit, just a simple allegory of how humans organize themselves in almost always the same manner regardless of circumstance, and how that structure innevitably falters under the strain of injustice birthed by innequality. The human spirit can't be confined nor does it accept a preset path forever. I thought it was one of Chris Evan's best performances and proof that he has the chops to do more than look pretty in movies. John Hurt was as good as ever and Tilda Swinton is just so unique I don't think anyone else could make that character work. I loved this movie and really apreciate how it doesn't follow traditional Hollywood format. We need more like it.

I hope Snowpiercer brought more attention to Bong Joon-ho in the West, particularly his films Memories of Murder (2003) and Mother (2009). Most cinephiles I know who follow international film only know much about European dramas (e.g. French New Wave films) or Japanese anime. Not much love for Korean cinema, despite how strong that national stable has become, and don't even get me started on the lack of love for South Asian (especially Bollywood) cinema...

Asia has produced some of the best films to pass the event horizon of my eyeballs in the last 20 years. i jus recommended The Chaser in a thread elsewhere on here as it's still hands down the best thriller i've seen in my adult years... and i'm 46. Memories of Murder is also up there as a pure cinema experience. It seems to me that Asian cinema doesn't suffer from the "All controlling bean counters / Guardians of the Status Quo" Psychos that rule Hollywood. Actual cinematic art still thrives over there.
@CMontgomeryBurns098 жыл бұрын
I think you're going a little too far in the other direction. To quote Quentin Tarantino: "I'm not a Hollywood basher because enough good movies come out of the Hollywood system every year to justify its existence, without any apologies." Actual cinematic art still thrives everywhere, you just have to keep an eye out for it. That's the point of my original comment. And besides, if you praise 'Asian cinema' while still neglecting South Asia, namely Bollywood and associated Indian film, your neglecting the largest national film stable on the planet.

Yeah I mean its hardly the worst thing to be eating and in actuality could be the future of food (if we don't fuckin fix our planet and localize farming), but bugs, most likely roaches are full of proteins, vitamins and minerals on par with fish.

Good point. Eating bugs is not that shocking. It's not uncommon at all

I would be less disgusted if it was made with species other than cockroaches. Sure, eating human flesh is more, if not less repulsive than eating roaches in real life, but it doesn't mean one would be cool seing those disgusting vermins grinded into bars. It's a matter of fact that most people (especially women)are terrified whenever they spot one in their homes

Loved this film. I'll watch anything with John Hurt. If you put John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Chris Evans and Richard Harris in it, I'll watch it forever.

When Harvey Weinstein pretty much said “I was right, you were wrong” I just cringed because of how many shitty decisions he made in life.

Weinstein is nothing if not cringe so at least its consistent.

They should make a sequel to Snowpiercer

What would they do? The train is destroyed and derailed. Maybe survival in the frigid and cold wasteland, but at that point it loses what made it stand out.

I could not stop re watching this film, I was hooked just on seeing the trailer knowing this would be an epic watch. Also I feel the Raid 1 & 2 have been spectacularly made films that have gone under the radar, any chance they could be reviewed?? Thanks

I thought the fish blood thing was just a symbolic thing they did. Had no clue it was poisoned. Either way, it's one fo those things that if you spend an actual second to think about it, you don't need it explained.

I thought they wrote Octavia Spencer’s character horribly...why was it every time she had dialogue it sounded like it was straight out of a blacksplotation film from the 70’s😪
