Late to this party. I was assistant cameraman on this relentless 17 shoot (plus a handful of “pickup” days, because it was a random article of faith that Crown made all its features in 17). Mostly remember the one day I spent in the back of a limousine with Penn & Teller and a bevy of strippers. The director, now passed on, was quite an impatient guy and that didn’t really make the shoot very pleasant or safe given so many driving sequences. I’m glad to know it turned out well enough for many here to have enjoyed seeing it. In truth, crews can never tell if they are working on a hit or a dud while praying for someone to say, “Wrap!”

Title is misleading if u ask me i thought it would be about a whole summer filled with hijinks and dark humor but it was the girl trying to be a fashion ista and the brother changing its a good movie but i thought it would be a dark teen comedy with good one liners and 90s type angst

On one hand, good on Crown International Pictures for giving Beaird a shot, but on the other hand, screw them for doing literally nothing else right. Meddled with the script because it wasn't trash, inserted a rape scene for T&A, lied about box office being larger than it was for publicity, lied about box office being smaller than it was to rob the director, decided not to release a soundtrack which screwed the band... with practices like that, it's no wonder they went belly-up a few years later.

Ah, so it's like a Slinky situation, where a husband made a toy out of a spring that goes down stairs, and then his wife took it to trade shows, handles the marketing, and ran business while her husband gave all their money away to religious cults, moved to Bolivia to join a commune, and spent the rest of his days bombarding her with letters demanding that she 'repent' while she fought to bring the company back from bankruptcy. Okay, maybe not exactly like Slinky...

They don't make movies like this anymore , with that i mean a bunch of old classy actors/actresses , classy lead roles , great car brand Rolls Royce and a great comedy . Love such movies that you feel good after watching it . This movie My Chauffeur kinda reminds me to Working Girl starring Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Melanie Griffith also one of these feel good movies . Sadly nowadays there aren't classy movies anymore or they're extremely rare , everything has changed to the worst in movies today .

Loved this movie. It's so funny and periodically, a day might need a line to make someone smile. Cause on a bad day "All I need to do is find a one legged nun walking a goat, and I WIN." The periodic toss in of "It IS BAA--BE isn't it?" Wins a smile and sputtered snickers from those in "the know", even twenty years on. The other VERY quotable run can be the whole section of "My my it's vERy hot, but thank GO--uD. It isn't sti--ckAY. I just HA--et when it's stick--AAy, " The quotable conversations with someone else who finds it funny and so memorable. As for the talking car bit. The Brentwood Limousine security system locking the car thief in and gassing him is so funny. Decades later and I still love this movie, and am still glad to recommend it. I'm grateful he didn't give up and made it as it is. I'r perfect. Thank you one and all, crew of My Chauffeur. Deborah

It just goes to show you how much indies films have changed and how anti-establishment ,anti-,pc they were back then. Until the director's guild was putting a stop to films like Porky's from ever reaching box office gold. Now independent films are pro establishment, pro pc garbage or basically celebrities bragging about how they can direct a boring art house film that nobody wants to see.

Finally a movie I was not too interested in (I was interested in it once because the "valley girl" was in it watched a little bit got disinterested in it), however, as always, you made this enjoyable listening about the backstory, history, the making of it etc. I might revisit it one day but right now, no. I wish, though Debra Forman made more movies when I discovered Valley Girl. She really deserves more.

I actually caught this film on cable back in the 80s when I was a teenager, and really enjoyed it. Recently I found a used copy of it on DVD and re-watched it after all these years and it really holds up. It's a lot of fun and has a certain charm to it that doesn't really exist in movies anymore. Great soundtrack too... I really love this movie. Check it out if you've never seen it.

Great review babe. It is babe, isn't it? I didn't see it in a theater but I have loved this one for twenty years. It is babe, isn't it? Worked it's way into every day Conversations, along with "all I have to do it find a one legged nun walking a goat, and I win." The fun of this movie has made it a long favorite with a long standing few catch phrases that bewildered people that might have overheard us talking like it was normal "My my it's very hot, but thank gawd it isn't sick-ay...could you imagine that? A stick-ay desert, why that's as impossible as an intelligent woman....My my, I miss Scarlet..." Just fun repartee. The fun echos in people's bewildered expressions.

For some reason I was just thinking of celebrity crushes (who are older) and in the 90s Deborah Foreman might’ve been my first. I explained to someone in a livechat who she was, which made me revisit the trailer (whereupon I only just NOW realized that Sam “Flash Gordon” Jones was her love interest) and then the algorithm brought me here, which is a nice surprise. It’s a bit odd I don’t remember much about the movie as 1) I was absolutely smitten with her, and 2) your praise of her performance mirrors exactly what I thought when I saw Amy Adams in Enchanted. (That movie was so not made for me, so how I even saw it is another story entirely.) Particularly when you say “no offense to the supporting cast.” Your assessment makes me want to see how I missed this the first time. I hope it was just youthful stupidity that I didn’t appreciate it back then. You’d think I’d be enthusiastic about Deborah Foreman carrying a movie. I don’t remember the yoga thing but I do remember that by the time I was old enough to appreciate film, late 90s, she was long gone from acting and into web/graphic design and photography, which I thought was a cool side (or main) hustle for such a babe. I vividly remember her AOL design page, with her bio and those eyes and smile that were as entrancing at 40 as they were 15-20 years prior. Unlike most people I’ve never had celebrity crushes, and I was never into models despite growing up in the supermodel era. Celebrity crushes have always been illogical to me. Except Deborah. I always forget Deborah, the one time I was well and truly smitten.

Thanks for the backstory on this wonderful feel good film ... the entire cast was awesome .. and it’s interesting to know that they were awesome and made an awesome movie despite studio interference . The studio wanted something different than what was produced.. the studio was wrong .. it’s a shame the screwed beard out of his money as well .. .. it is such a magical simple film that you can throw in when you are down and Debbie just brings you back to a simpler time .. I was 16 when this cane out so I lived it .. I also thought hot tub time machine captured the time pretty well .. those of us who lived it will tell you cocaine is a hell of a drug .. then we have to explain it to those who did not live it because as we say it we aren’t talking about bad things we are talking about just how much we could get done in a short amount of time .. you had to be there 😉

I noticed alot of comments on old school death metal like entombed and cannibal corpse which i grew up obsessed with from its inception...early days of Tampa Bay...etc. But this story gives us more in common. I believe you. And I also learned the hard way by doing the exact same thing that you did....when the bird fell. But different. Anyway. Not to be toyed with. Theres an out of print boom called Ouija the most dangerous game. It's written by the Warren s many years before the conjuring. Excellent warning about how such a simple device is so dangerous.

I was right there with Mr. Spielberg. But I would've bought that word of mouth about the Color Purple might've taken a bit longer. Beating it a second week? Never, that movie is a masterpiece.

You should do a Space Truckers review. For whatever reason, they are really hard to come by. You could corner the market!

That line she says "It is babe, isn't it?" Is also in the movie Chopping Mall. I cannot find any connection. Between this film or that one. Does anyone know why this line is in both movies?

My group of friends and I were big fans of "The Party Animal". It came out on video at just the right time for us to be firmly in the target audience.

I remember watching this movie on cable late at night thinking I would get to see lots of T and A.
