As an animal lover, the flock of sheep on the road is one of my favourite clips, its amusing, (but you must wonder where they're going), and at the same time it gives a 'warm' feeling that everything is right in the world. Bamburgh was particularly interesting, following the drive down from Scotland, as it's the central theme of a series of books that I'm reading. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.

Happy New year to you all. We stay in Castleton in the Peak District ad a walking base, lots of good walking around there. If you’re going to the Lake District read up on Alfred Wainwright and try one of his walks. The best walks in the UK are: 1 - Helvellyn, Lake District · 2 - Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Eryri (Snowdonia) · 3 - Malham Cove, North Yorkshire · 4 - Cat Bells, Lake District · 5 - Scafell Pike, Lake District 6 - Tryfan North Ridge, Eryri 7 - Buttermere, Lake District 8 - The old man of Conitson, Lake District 9 - Embleton Bay, Northumberland 10 - Mam Tor, Derbyshire (Peak District). Note, several of these will need mountain ready walking gear, the weather turns fast on top of the hills.

In the Lake District walk the circular path around Tarn Hows. The walk takes around 90 minutes and is special as it circles a small lake. Drive the Hardknott Pass but only if you are brave. Remember the northern Lakes are more rugged than the Southern Lakes which is more popular. Windermere can get very busy.

Great wrap up video for 2024. Loved it. Some walks I enjoyed, though in Cheshire rather than Yorkshire are the two castles Beeston and Peckforton Castles Circular walk and also the Cloud at Congleton. The Edge at Alderley Edge is good too. It’s a short walk to a cliff in the middle of the Cheshire plain. A great view and a place with a legend of witchcraft which is oddly so easy to get lost in.

A beautifully put-together video as usual. It is quite a journey but you seem used to that, but I do recommend Lyme Regis in Dorset. It is on the Jurassic coast and home to the discovery of fossils by Mary Anning. Every now and then marine fossils erode out of the cliffs as well as older ammonites, for example. Those cliffs go back millions of years through the world's geology. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. Looking forward to more of your travels. Try Shrewsbury in Shropshire, or Ironbridge. You will love them.

@DaydreamersBarn The French Lieutenant's Daughter was filmed there. Be warned, the main car park is at the top of the cliffs. There is a lovely walk from the river Lyme, the sea outlet, back up to Uplyme. All uphill though.

Really nice recap of some of your walks - I can remember all of them like yesterday, which shows how quickly this year has gone! And you still have so much yet to see - but I bet you find this year, too, just flies and you'll be leaving us in what will feel like no time at all now :( You wanted some ideas for hikes and walk-rounds? How long have you got? ;) But, having seen the type of walk you enjoy and mindful that you will probably always be limited on time and not likely to want really big climbs, some I would highlight (mostly, try and get a clear day!) - in each case, the first is perhaps the one I think you might enjoy the most. Lakes: The surprisingly high-up so-scenic walk round Tarn Hows - THE money shot - and nearby beautiful Hawkshead village with all its alleys and passages; the beautiful walk round Buttermere; Catbells for a hill walk with great views; Orrest Head, above Windermere (the views!); Grasmere village...where to stop? Peak District: Castleton and the caves, the Winnats pass and (high-level) Mam Tor (several walks and lots of attractions); Eyam village (attractive village, major history); Dovedale - so scenic; Chatsworth (you wanted to go this last time, and the grounds are beautiful); The Roaches... Yorkshire Dales: Malham, Malham Cove, Janet's Foss, Gordale Scar and Malham Tarn (One absolutely outstanding long, or plenty of shorter, beautiful walks; Bolton Abbey and Strid Wood; Grassington; The walk up Ingleborough from Clapham, or at least the lower part of it with loads to see, and ideally nearby Ingleton Falls as well... Mid-Pennines: Saltaire World Heritage Site (for the architecture and history and so much else to see); Haworth, and Haworth Moor (for the Bronte history, Worth Valley Railway and again so much else); Hebden Bridge and Hardcastle Crags (history and scenery and again, so much else). (I can walk to the first two from my house, and the third is not that far...) North York Moors: Sutton Bank (needs a clear day - for the amazing views); North York Moors railway - walk some and ride some? Hutton le Hole (like a Cotswold village; Whitby; Staithes... Just some that immediately come to mind, that seem consistent with your videos. Ideally you would pick an area and stay over, since otherwise far too much driving I think? Be warned, though - everywhere I listed can be pretty busy with tourists, and in quite a few of those places parking is very much at a premium, especially at weekends and in the school holidays. Anyway, you'll never get to all those! And there is SO much to see round and about them as well. But maybe a handful, before you go? You can check them all out online, of course, to see if any appeal and may be practicable? And anyway - happy new year y'all! It looks like it is going to be a really exciting one for you all!

Adrian, Great to hear from you. It does seem like the year has flown by, and yes by the time we blink, we will be headed back towards the good old US of A. How it will be bittersweet, there will be parts that we are sad to see go, and others we will be very excited to see when we get there. That being said, the recommendations are great. They are actually focused on some of the areas we have been discussing and looking forward to going to. We do appreciate you taking the time to consider what would be best for our situation, driving and all that. Consider us warned, we will try to see about getting there in the offseason if possible, or on American holidays to keep the crowds down. Happy New Year to you and yours as well. Cheers, Chris

@DaydreamersBarn I'm sure there are plenty of us on here, who could variously give you some info on specific places they are familiar with? If you ever felt you needed it. Do you have the ordnance Survey Maps app on your phones? Unbelievable value, and the OS 25,000 scale maps are pretty essential for getting the best out of our countryside IMO.

Happy New Year to all. Do you know that the main roads in most towns and cities in the UK went through the centres. Now there are ring roads and bypasses. Stevenage old town is a good example the A1 trunk road went straight through the middle originally, now it's bypassed. The A1 is the longest road in the UK from London to Edinburgh 410 miles long.

I'm surprised after all the time you have spent in the UK, that you still mispronounce Edinburgh as "Edinboro" !! It's 'Edinburr'. Anyway, Happy New Year to you all. I hope you'll be able to return to the UK in the not too distant future and maybe visit the Scilly Isles? (pronounced 'Silly' Isles) ... and, have you been to the Isle of Wight? (Pronounced like 'white' but minus the 'aitch' of course!!) Plus the Isle of Man? The Scilly Isles are off to the West of Cornwall, The Isle of Wight is just across the Solent - which is the stretch of water between that island and naval city of Portsmouth, in the county of Hampshire, on the South coast of England (facing France, across the English Channel) and the Isle of Man sits between the West coast of England and Ireland in the Northern part of the Irish Sea. Have a great 2025, hope to see you again soon. Stay safe. Stay healthy and happy and... "Come back soon!"
