League stopped appealing to me when they forsook their original idea aka "There's a champion for everyone, pick your favourite and have fun" and started to pander the people who just played popular champions and bought all their skins. I mained Vel'koz and there was almost 5 year gap with him receiving one skin. Lux received 7 at that time including an ultimate and double legendary skin. There's now several champions with 2 legendaries while the majority don't even have one. It's awful and the game just stopped being made for someone like me. Also the competitive nature of the game became ridiculous thanks to the mastery and eternals system that drove people to just play their mains and tryhard even in normal games to get their S-rank and more points to their already million point mains. Same thing was always part of the balancing. If an unpopular champion was slightly overpowered they wouldn't hesitate to nerf them immediately while the fanboy champions could be borderline broken for months if not years before they got nerfed.
@SoulF4ke3 жыл бұрын
Here in brazil they made various ads saying : "play league the way u like" then they proceeded and banned an brazilian streamer for playing his main in a uncommon lane... that is when it stopped appealing to me.

Season 1 player here, You can't imagine how much grief I felt seeing riot slowly forget it's old-champions just to hyper-balance and focus on the more recent characters which are popular in competitions Used to be a time league was for "everyone", Nowaday it's a game only dedicated to competition, and they only listen to the pro-players And even then, I'm not even sure league is made for them I remember back when a tank was a tank, a mage was a mage, and a ADC was a ADC Nowaday theses words don't even have any fucking meanings anymore, you have ADCs that can regen much better than any tanks could, and tanks aren't even really viable anymore I think my interest in the game started wavering back when they took out the Occult-Blade, killing one of the most fun item you could pick on characters like Pantheon They deleted and changed so much shit, at this point does anyone even remember the "Leviathan"? It was the tanks own Mejai/Occult item, it would increase your max-HPs with kills and assists Remember back when in the upper/left jungle there was a tombstone with the ghost of Urf appearing once in a while? Last time I played league was last-year in winter and they didn't even bother giving the map a winter-theme if I'm not mistaken I stopped playing the game when they changed IP for the essence-system, Do you know why they even made that change? Because back when they started fiddling with their lootboxes-system, Players who already owned every characters and had a shitton of IPs like me had a way to avoid paying for new characters Already back then every new-characters were worth about 6K IP The thing is, you could unlock characters with tokens You had to get at least 3 tokens, and the character you would get was random But to use it was a really good deal, a token was worth about 900 IP on the store, And not only you could buy theses tokens, but you could also get them for free in boxes I remember having about like 13 tokens jut sitting in my inventory, waiting to be used for new-characters So instead of paying 6K+ for a new-character, we just had to save thoses tokens over-time to get new-characters, Since we already owned every champions, we would only unlock the new-one So we amassed a shitton of IPs that way while also unlocking every new-champs for free Obviously we didn't hurt anyone doing this, and only peoples who invested enough time/money to get every single champions in the game could pull this off, But to riot having players unlocking shit for free without playing the game all the time was a problem, So they decided to replace IPs with BE, and they got rid of the champions tokens to replace it with their current "renting-tokens", The idea was obviously to force us back into having to use our ressources and stop us from playing passively while still unlocking characters Good thing I had a shitton of tokens, because I converted them all into IP before the IP/BE conversion, When the conversion finaly happened, I had about 160K+ BE, Still more than enough to afford about any characters they released since then, But the fact that I still managed ith it isn't the point, My point is that they changed their entire fucking monetary system to force old-players back into investing time/money in the game instead of just having a game once in a while Riot got that fucking greedy, And obviously it didn't work out because most of my friends and I all progressively stopped playing the game after that Anyway, As they got bigger and bigger, riot-games stopped giving a shit Their studio changed and their view on what the game should be also changed I think they understood they isn't have to try anymore when the game got to the peak of it's popularity They didn't have to make it fun anymore, all they had to do was to get you hooked on ranked and keep playing "The most played multi-player game on earth!" It's also game made by no-one, and for no-one

3:57 you put it so perfectly. this is most people's reason to leave league recently. Riot balances/releases champs for LCS, and then wonders why their game stopped being fun. honestly it feels like riot forgot it was a game at all. as you said at 12:19, to riot, it's a sport. Not a game. 15:15 there are so many good creators out there, its just the base doesn't care for fun, high effort league content anymore like they did in the old days. also the league partner program made it hard for small content creators to compete with the well established ones already in the program, worsening the overall state of content for league imo its a rare type of content creator who can do so well breaking away from their niche like you have. MAD RESPECT and keep doing you!!

what's funny is that I share your thoughts on competitive games, I really dislike the mentality and community that competitive games like league or csgo breed , but for some reason in january of this year I fell in love with fighting games and haven't stopped playing them, they're so good at having a perfect balance between playing for fun and playing for glory, and I play them solely for fun, and yet the process of learning and improving IS itself the fun, I even joined a few tournaments and like, it's so weird how I can join a competitive thing and completely not care about that competitive aspect and still have fun even though I lost 2-0 twice and got eliminated immediately, a lot of people don't find it fun when they lose but I'm so glad I can get absolutely bodied by veteran players and still have the time of my life
@dylan1016 Жыл бұрын
i know this comment is kinda old but i think its probably because fighting games are solo. you don't have anyone to blame but yourselves and so for a lot of people it's less frustrating to lose, whereas in league most of the toxicity is people's ego and blaming each other for mistakes that cost the game. like literally every time i watch a lol stream its always just the streamer arguing with some random and complaining.
@seia2758Ай бұрын
@@dylan1016 You also have to remember that even low-tier characters in Fighting Games can be a menace when mastered properly. In League? Good luck trying to outduel someone who completely counters your champion unless they mess up because some champions are just MADE to win early game while some champions are NOT meant to fight early game (Nasus *cough* *cough*) and just scale up. I'm a Gwen main and I got so frustrated of always getting stomped early game by Bruisers and Fighters that I quit the game. That's how unbalanced League is.

3 tips I personally use to have fun in games; Avoid service games, try them but don't get attached to them if you don't find your enjoyment in the first 10 hours,I only play service games when my friends do too. Avoid spoiling yourself, hard to do, but so worth it, going in a game blind is a blessing, even when the game doesn't have a plot, the mechanics will surprise you and will push you to try things. Try everything, even if it means you'll have to pirate games, I only buy a game if I support the developer, and I did multiple times. I've been doing these for a while and it feels like i'm having more fun now ^^

Hello Yakko, let me get the obligatory “been here since the league days” out of the way first. I started watching you about 6 years ago, starting with “BARD’S BIG ADVENTURE”. I was quite young at the time (18 now) but outside factors and my own actions had already started a phase in my life where I spent maybe just a little tiny bit too much time in my room watching KZbin and playing video games alone, isolated from other kids when I wasn’t in school. I’ve never actually played LoL due to not having access to a good enough computer and also having having had gotten addicted to other games first, but I watched LoL content because the game franchise I did play a shitton (Monster Hunter) didn’t have much content about it on KZbin. LoL content was an extra way to fill the void. But as time went on I just kinda stopped watching you and league content in general, not because I got out of my room more oh no, I just wasn’t as interested anymore. I came back at around the time you were already on your way to transitioning away from LoL content and I felt a kind of connection because we now had something in common, the motivations were different but I didn’t think that far at the time. And as I started watching your newer content, having grown up a bit, I noticed that in comparison to some of the last videos I had watched from you, you seemed to be doing better, from a content and a happiness point of view. Now I don’t know anything about your personal life so I don’t know if this is actually true but it felt that way to me. That feeling of watching someone who was doing something they enjoyed kept me coming back. As I kept watching I found a core difference between us: you play a lot of games, I don’t. I am that kind of gamer you mentioned in the video who spends thousands of hours on one game (franchise in my case) and rarely plays anything else, the exact type of gamer you aren’t. And as I kept watching I rediscovered your channel as something new: a window into the gaming experience of people who “lived” in a subsection of gaming I was not familiar with: Indie games. This novelty along with the high quality of the videos and high brow, sophisticated humor is what has kept me engaged in the content you create and also inspired me to broaden my game collection a bit. Without you (and Dunkey) I would have probably never played Hollow Knight or Furi, or even Mario Odyssey, for this I thank you. I have since gone back to my old ways of mainly playing old world Monster Hunter but I still appreciate your channel and you as a person for sharing with me this new area of gaming and helping me to wonder(sometimes childlike, even) at amazing game design and soundtracks. Thank you and I look forward to every next video you post.

There was a conscious decision made in late 2017 by riot games to focus only on weaponizing their addicted player base as dopamine-rats over actually designing a fun video game for enjoyment. The shift was subtle at the time, but glaringly obvious in hindsight. They just realized who paid more money, and because of the rise of fortnight became so insecure about their ability to design a game that was competitive within the industry that they just did everything they could to lock everyone in by any means. Systematic removal and degradation of any mode other than SR, Intentionally snail paced, meaningless "2 ad" changes every 2 weeks, streak based matchmaking, artificial inflation and deflation of mmr, it was all addict those with high frustration tolerance at the cost of those who just liked to mess around. Sad to see my (our) favorite game of like 5+ years go this route, but what can you do. Feels bad. Especially feel bad for anyone still playing.

I've played the game since S2. It's always been the same, it still plays mostly the same. This is so drastic. Gamers are fickle, and things staying flavour of the month for over a decade is impossible. Hence CS updating itself twice in it's history - still now losing it's playerbase to a new flavour in Valorant. Hence WoW slowly haemorrhaging players to FFXIV. I mean it's even why League got so popular, MOBA players wanted a new flavour and it came along at the right time to become bigger than DoTA.

Like, jesus.. I'm pretty sure one of my friends is only one of my friends for league cause that's all he fucking plays and mentions to me constantly while my computer is getting fixed. And when he mentions it, it's usually how I need to practice another role and get better at my shot-calling. Like, I don't want to fucking work and study, I just wanna game and have fun. Like you mentioned with nexus blitz, that was fun, but my friends didn't really play it cause they didn’t like it, most likely cause it was less competitive and more fun-based. Sorry for the rant but, thanks for the enlightenment. I need to stay out of league, or at least limit myself if I can't manage to do the first option. Good vid 10/10

The part that resonates with me is "I love video games" I have a core group of friends who likes taking league seriously, but they also enjoy relaxing and letting us all play a variety of champs. I also make sure to take breaks from league and get through backlog when there are games I want to play, and having different locations for games helps me with that. I play most single player games on playstation 4/5, and when I do on computer it's always with a controller. League has been a blessing and a curse over quarantine because it's such a time-sink to make the time feel like the quarantine hasn't been as long as it has.

I've had League installed for a while now, not that I play much. I've constantly avoided it because of that competitive toxic playerbase, and how much it turns me into a raging dumbass when I have no idea what I'm doing WHILE getting blasted by 4 people calling me a f*****. But I'd like to think the reason why it *has* been sitting on my desktop for so long is the amazing art and story that the good people at Riot worked on. I didn't ask for it, but I really needed this video (and so did my harddrive, lol).

I don't know... I used like the lore, artstyle and music really much, but with seraphine, gwen and all of this anime hot characters I think league is becoming more and more generic. I didn't like the ruination event and the new thresh, or the new karthus pentakill skin. Champions like Asol, Bard, Kindred or Ivern were so interesting concepts, the artstyle was so beautiful. But now everything is generic hot anime characters for more than two years straight. And I fear the MMO will be the same, like those chinese MMO phone games.

I have started playing in covid, and at the start it was so much fun! every match we found new things to joke and laugh about, it was simple and there wasn't a lot of pressure from school yet so we actually had some time. after a while the jokes became jokes on the friends inside the friend group, you could see how we were more toxic and blamed each other a lot, after a point I stopped talking with them because they were so toxic and infuriating I hurt my hand from punching shit from the "bullying" they thought was cool to do. at the end it took a lot of time for me to recover and act normal to the again, and since then league was less and less fun for everyone, so we stopped playing it so often, now its just chilling, playing a random game we just found or playing TFT, which I think is starting to be more and more RNG based, another property riot is ruining... I just hope all of you know when to appreciate yourself and your time, because I sure don't, youtube is taking a lot of my time instead of studying, but that's a thing im optimistic about :)

it used to be like, "Oh, yes I play league of legends!" Now it's like, "oh... uhm... leagueoflegends...." I'm emberassed to even say that I play it anymore. It's such a negative thing that honestly pulling away from it has done wonders on my mental health

Hey remember the time they had a dungeons and dragons adventure book called “Darktides of Bilgewater” and they got rid of it? Haha me too! Man we’re never gonna get a dnd adventure book based on the Ruination T-T

all the inspiring lines from the last league montage just give me goosebumps whenever I hear them. While League was a fun ride while it lasted, moving on to other projects and expanding your interest and ramblings in to other games is definitely a welcome change. Thank you for everything you have put out

One businessman said "Don't bullshit your customers." Riot has been bullshitting their players and when people realize this, they leave.

I honestly found you through you playing other games, league itself was a bonus for me. True to it, the game has been built for competitive players now, when Twisted Treeline was still around, me and my best friend would rather play that, and due to the lack of players there, we met amazing people. Riot isn't showing love for casual gaming anymore, so kudos to you sir, even without league content, I'll still watch your content 🎉

I'm not gonna lie, I really miss your Gameplays with the others, but understand where you come from. The important thing is for you to be happy and comfortable while doing what you love. Good for you Yakko. A big hug my guy

I love the League characters so its what draws me back. Went from playing everynight with friends last season to playing once a week by myself when everyone else quit this season. I enjoy playing but I don't love playing like I use to. The game feels..different. Too fast and everyone is so angry

I randomly found your twitter when you tweeted about reviewing your takes on Genshin. No idea why I don't play nor watch the game. The entire time I was thinking "I'm pretty sure I know this guy" and yeah I didn't remember but I used to watch your league content years ago! Went and watched your other stuff and you make amazing content keep it up :)

Without league, they wouldn't be able to create those games. So the update and changes should PRIORITIZE league instead of the other games they made. I love that odyssey mode. Man I wish they add more skills to league for every champions. That's the challenging part.

WOW! Now I am asking myself: "What am I doing with my life." Well waiting for lore, new champs and playing troll builds to see my teamates cry about it :D BTW: Get yourself a drink to stay hydrated! Have a nice day random person, that I will probably never meet
