My transfers between accounts are being counted as both income and expenses, which skewing my financial reports! How can I fix this issue?
@viviennemakumbirofa18522 ай бұрын
Hi, have you found a fix?
@CalebBaleFinance2 ай бұрын
Great question! Someone else had this question and I don't think I have a perfect answer. But basically if it's just a transfer, I would just delete both transactions as that would keep it from associating the transactions with income and expenses. Sorry for the late response!

What’s the best way to handle internal transfers in the app? I have both my checking and savings accounts added, and when I select “Transfer,” it wants to transfer between wallets instead of my actual accounts…
@OlleLind1991 Жыл бұрын
Buddy doesn't have access to your actual money to do transfers/withdrawals. You would still need to make the actual transfers from your bank. / Founder of Buddy
@CalebBaleFinance Жыл бұрын
Hey Trace! Great question. Think of the wallets more as sinking funds than accounts you can transfer between. As Olle said, Buddy does connect to your bank account but it cannot control your bank accounts. So if you try to “transfer” between accounts, it can’t move money from checking to your savings account. So if you use the wallets as sinking funds within your checking account for example, all your money stays in your checking account, but you can transfer money from your "spending wallet" to your "vacation wallet" or "home downpayment wallet." It just provides a better way of saving for some goals. Hope that helps!
@traceb4521 Жыл бұрын
@@OlleLind1991 sorry, I should’ve specified. I know Buddy can’t move the money for me - I’m talking about the transfers I make between the accounts and how they’re displayed in the transaction list. For example, I schedule a transfer from my checking to my savings via my banking institution, but in buddy it treats it as expense and income to each account, respectively, which then appears in my budget.

Hey Caleb, thank you for your videos from the Czech Republic! I've been struggling with one feature, maybe you can help? I don't how to mark a transfer from one bank account of mine to another. It's not income nor expense - I was just transferring my money from my business account to my personal account from which I pay everything non-state/work-related. The thing is, both of these accounts are successfully synced with the app. Therefore I don't understand why the "TRANSFER" option (next to expense or income options) while trying to select "from" and "to" shows me some kind of wallets and not my bank accounts. If the app allowed selecting "from spending" and "to spending" while marking a transfer, the problem would go away. But since the app bulked both of my accounts as "spending" how do I mark a transfer between them?
@CalebBaleFinance2 ай бұрын
Hello! Wow, the Czech Republic? That's crazy! Also sorry for the slow response! That's a great question. I'm trying to replicate what you're saying in my own app and I'm not totally sure the best way to answer it. To me it looks like since both are categorized as "spending" accounts, the transfer should just be a wash. Basically, I wonder if you can just delete the + and - transactions making up the transfer since both of them are in the same category of accounts (spending). It seems like that would take care of the issue, but unfortunately I'm not totally confident in that answer.

What about the + - transactions of bill payments? Ex. I pay 100 on my credit card and it shows the payment but also shows a positive value to I guess offset. Where does the positive and negative transaction go? If I have a different wallet for my credit cards, do I put the + figure there to represent the payment?
@CalebBaleFinance Жыл бұрын
So it's going to be a little hard for me to answer without fully understanding what's going on but I'll certainly try to explain how I would do it. When you make a purchase with your credit card, the transaction should show up in your "overview" tab at the bottom under "list" at the top right. If you tap on the $100 transaction you made on your credit card, there will be a category, then just under will be the wallet it's coming from, in most cases "From: Spending." Directly to the right, there's two arrows pointing opposite directions. If you tap on that, it drops down and shows "to wallet." When you tap on that, if you choose your credit wallet and tap save, that will add the transaction to your credit wallet and also add it as extra balance to your credit wallet that needs to be paid off. When you do make a payment towards the balance, the payment will show up as a transaction from your bank account, tap on it, then tap on "From: Spending" and choose your "Credit" wallet. That will make the transaction show a negative expense in the credit wallet, lowering your balance. Hope that helps! I understand the + and - can be difficult to figure out how to get them to work right in the app with all the transactions, especially with a credit card. But this is at least how I would handle what I believe you're asking about.

Hey no worries! If you have premium, just go to tools at the bottom and then tap on bank connectivity. I believe you should be able to connect in Australia as far as I know! can you log refunds to the initial expense?
@CalebBaleFinance11 ай бұрын
Great question! Honestly, I don't know if you can. However, I wouldn't even do a return that way. I would add it as a positive transaction instead of a negative one (like an expense). So like if you make a purchase at Walmart and you assign it to groceries, if you make a return, go ahead and at that as income back to the grocery line. I believe you should be able to do that. That way a return doesn't make the income for the whole budget look higher than it is. Hope that makes a little sense.

Hello! Sorry for the delay. It's a bit difficult to answer very specific questions on here about budgeting but it sounds like if you have the same problem as another commenter, what I told them may be the best thing to try. So here it goes. When you make a purchase with your credit card, the transaction should show up in your "overview" tab at the bottom under "list" at the top right. If you tap on a $100 transaction (for example) you made on your credit card, there will be a category, then just under will be the wallet it's coming from, in most cases "From: Spending." When you do make a payment towards the balance, the payment will show up as a transaction from your bank account, tap on it, then tap on "From: Spending" and choose your "Credit" wallet. That will make the transaction show a negative expense in the credit wallet, lowering your balance. Hope that helps! I understand the + and - can be difficult to figure out how to get them to work right in the app with all the transactions, especially with a credit card. I mean I earn for exemple 3000€ and my husband 5000 France Swiss. And we have rents in euro and other in Switzerland. It is possible to make in the same accounts 2 diferente folder. ( I don’t know exactly explain 😅) many thanks 😊 for your help

Woah, I've never had that question before! I don't believe you can budget with two different currencies in Buddy or any budgeting app that I'm aware of. Do both paychecks get deposited into the same bank account? The easiest way to handle this that I can think of is depositing both checks into one bank account, then the bank will deal with the conversion of one currency into the other currency, allowing you to budgeting your incomes in one currency. Ultimately I don't know if this is the best way of handling it, but it's the only way I can think of. Hope that helps!
