Same. I stopped playing playing during Set 5 when I noticed SDS gave up on the game. When all we got was 6 new cards at Set 6 I was completely done with the game. I think I'm going back to Chise Mode this year. It'll be fun playing as Seattle doing home games at The Kingdome and hitting Homer's with Griffey Jr.

Bring back MLB 19 and 20 formula with more flashback and legend cards that played for different teams to give more value to team captain cards. Make season long programs out of it to lead up to 99s at the end. Example Ricky Henderson and Goose playing for so many teams it would be cool to get cards for all the teams they played for then then get their 99s by the end of the year if you did the whole program making the grind worth it.

You hit the nail on the head for me about the seasons. I'm a casual player and dont have too many hours a week to play so having cards 'dead' after a season or 2 really killed the game for me. Once set 1 wasn't allowed to be used I just couldnt keep up with the game from all my limited hard work

my view on program packs for say BR or Ranked season, give people an option pack, they can either get 1 or 3 choice pack for the current BR program untradeable so they can get they want for their team or have an auctionable pack that gives 1 random from the BR current program. This gives the best of both worlds, you can an auctionable card if there isn't 1 you want or an unauctionable if there is, gives value to the WS and BR flawless runs, but still value to the programs.

I had fun with mlb the show because it was baseball. But man was it hard to play. I think the main problem was that they tried to get you to restart your team but that doesnt work when you can use a full 99 team from the previous season. I think the plan for 24 is a lot better. I think the no sell pack was really stupid because if i dont want the card why cant i sell it to get cards i actually want? im a yankees fan and i wanted jeter but i dont spend money so i had to grind to unlock the collections and early in the year if i didnt want the online reward i just sold it to help towards jeter. im optimistic for mlb 24 because so far i think they addressed most of the problems with sets and seasons.

My personal opinion (college student with plenty of time) 22 I finished everything got Mickey/Shohei etc 23 I finished every TA and all collections The issue I found with this year not was the 99s day one, because when I look at the stats think trea/lindor those stats do not reflect a 99 and they took a upward turn moving forward. The problem was with sets we got 15 copies of the same player because they got locked in lineups and they just rereleased them... The TA didnt bother me because id finish in a few days and use that as the first collection to get it out of the way then play online so obv I never used the 97s from TA. I saw it as just a checkpoint to unlock the 99s and go online because online rewards were not good. Now, starting work after graduating I will be very busy and I don't see myself even buying the game which is sad I played MLB 2k my whole childhood on ps2 I remember the tim lincecum 2k9 cover, and played the show since 2017 DD... After hearing they aren't starting with 99s but are still doing seasons, there is no reason to pre order for 88-91 cards. I can easily get the game in the summer buy stubs and work towards all new TA at that point. Because I stop playing in october anyway after I am bored and nothing new to grind. I got the chase pack rewards this year and to think that money went nowhere because I stopped playing earlier than I did last year (chase cards were better than rewards loll) Baseball is my favorite sport love the game but not worth day 1 when I will become a casual player this year unlike in years past.

You should make a tier list like you did with the 21 finest series, but rank how cool and aesthetically pleasing different designs for card series from past games look . I think it would be cool to see how your opinion on the snapshot cards stack up against card designs you think are better or worse.

for me it was the set format because as a casual player i never had enough time to constantly grind each set for the 99s with school and such so i didn’t even make it past set 2

As an Offline-CPU exclusive player, I had an absolute blast in MLB 23 overall sinking 1100 hours in, and I wish I had the cash to get 24 on launch because it looks like it's going to be an exciting year. Sets and Seasons were kind of hit or miss, I liked grinding for the most part, always having new cards and challenges to earn and work through, but I do agree by Season 4 the grind was getting ridiculous. TA was WAY too long for all 95-97s until the Season 5 affinity finally giving us 99s in those packs with the Retro/Finest. I also think we should've gotten a season 6 TA even if the game was on the way out. Mini Seasons, I liked that they gave each team unique created stadiums vs. just using the minor league fields, and the rotating alternate modes kept it kind of fun for me, but some of those rewards were not worth it from the exclusive mini seasons (Like the All Gold one, nobody was ever going to use that outside of a challenge for themselves). My biggest issue was one you mentioned, too many dupe cards. There were so many unique and interesting cards in MLB 22 that I can remember. Milestone Juan Pierre was a beast for me, Faces of the Franchise had so many cool cards, the whole unique Takashi set, the actual Cover Athlete cards themselves- I just remember more unique cards for players back then and always having a better card to earn in some way. (Ex. MLB16 Donaldson Cover Athlete vs. 99 Retro Finest in the Extreme Program). In this game we had 3 JT Realmutos', one of which an unsellable BR reward that nobody cared about or wanted and the stats between the WBC and the Post Season are deciding whether you want slightly better hitting, or slightly better speed/fielding. Then you had Adley who had TWO All-Star series cards, Home Run Derby 97 and his collection 99 (The best in the game) and his Finest is a tragedy compared to that one- and he also had a captain card at the start of the year. Then you have someone like Frank Thomas who had a BR locked 99, or his Snapshot 97- limiting the choices for some players and having way too many useless ones for others. I hated starting a new season and saying "Oh great, we got another DJ LeMahieu card" or you know, something along those lines. Like you said, grinding for players we already had and cards that weren't necessarily an improvement. The new Legends in the game were cool- Jeter is my favorite player of all time, I idolized him as a Yankees fan growing up- he even hit 3000 on my birthday! So I bought Captain's Edition physical the day it was announced. Having him and David Wright were a big part of wanting this game, but I also can't help but feel we lost a lot of legends, or perhaps they were just replaced by the Negro Leagues legends, which is fine! Storylines is great, and I feel like we would've gotten more value out of those cards If they had actually given us more options of NGL cards at (more) valuable positions (*than other existing cards) to work with (outside of you know, John Donaldson and the occasional visit from Jackie Robinson or Buck O'Neil). We only got the Core Storyline NGL cards and then the Jin Kim ones which many of were Ranked only rewards. Ray Durham, Kirk Gibson & Jered Weaver were new in 2022 and we lost them immediately the next year. We also lost Juan Pierre, Kenny Lofton, Phil Niekro and Orel Hershiser. I know we also gained a lot (Ryan Ludwick, McGwire, Ryan Braun ex.) I just wish we weren't losing and only adding. To be honest, I haven't kept up with MLB the Show all these years. I went from MLB 13 to nothing, back to MLB 19 and eventually to 22 where I found your channel, and straight into 23 from the start of the year. Being my first year of DD ever, I still had a really good time. The gameplay was fun, the team building with DH was super enjoyable and despite a lot of the shortcomings and content struggles (God, Season 4 sucked)- I still had a good time, and I'll be grabbing 24 as soon as I can.

One thing i hated that they did this year was taking out the extra inning game mode. It was great for casual gamers that didn't want to play rank but allowed them to play against other people's teams in a 9-inning game. It was great for grinding missions and doesn't get stale as fast as playing against the cpu teams.

This year really derailed my desire to play this game. Not that it matters or makes any difference, but I am fairly certain I won't buy MLB 24. As a Yankees fan, I was pleasantly surprised to see they added Paul O'Neil, Bernie Williams, and Andy Pettitte. But over the years I've put tons of hours grinding the game just to be left disappointed by gameplay, freezeoffs, repetitive content, and pay-to-play paywalls. I really think I'd be happier stepping away and playing the game vicariously through creators like yourself, KevGOhD, and Shelfy. This will be the first MLB The Show I pass on since MLB 17. Maybe there are others that feel similarly and SDS tries to self-correct, but since the game has gone cross platform and their audience may be close to doubled what it was beforehand, I don't see the incentive for them to change. Also, I first got into this game through RTTS, and that mode is unrecognizable to me now. I look forward to following along as the new game launches. I appreciate and respect your insight, Koogs!

I feel the same way as you and will admit that I was on the fence about the new game until they announced those new names with Bernie, Paul and Andy. Hooked me back in immediately as I grew up with those late '90s Yankees teams and Bernie Williams will forever be my favorite player of all-time. I was another person who has grinded the game to completion over the last several years, but tapped out at the end of the summer this past release. Once they released that awful Snapshot series I realized it was time to take a break and I haven't played the game in over 6 months so hopefully that sabbatical helped me recharge for 2024.

probably an unpopular opinion but i personally liked this season the most. I used a lot of cards that i had never used before because there was always a specific group of cards that was just so much better than everyone else no matter their stats. I also didn't spend any money on the game but i still had a good squad every season and enjoyed the game overall because i didn't TRY to grind it js kinda happened.

My take on the 12-0 non sellable pack: I think that they could keep the non-sellable card, but they would need to make the cards for going flawless very good. It’s not good if you need to go flawless for a card that won’t even make your god squad.

As a whole I think the game itself was pretty good but I do agree the content model wasn't the best. And I honestly enjoyed Season 4 it brought a couple cards I wanted to grind for like Chuck Nasty and my favorite of the season Joey Votto(hopefully it's not the last good Votto Card)

Personally I hated this year. I hated that 99s released week one, I hated that I couldn’t use my card after 2 season, and I overall hated the hitting this year. The new format did the exact opposite of what The show wanted it to do. I fell off after the first season which has never happened that early for me. I hope they go back this year

Most of what they introduced this year was really poorly executed and some things they just flat out gave up on(captains), but I would still play MLB 23 over MLB 22 in a heartbeat just cause how much I enjoyed the gameplay this year compared to last. But with similar gameplay going into next year and hopefully fixing the disaster that was the content this year I think MLB 24 has a lot of potential to be a great game
