Slight correction: Spotify/Netflix/Discord apps can be installed on the Deck, but more to my point, YMWV for a lot of features - which is much less a concern on Windows. Spotify has a Linux app that's supposedly not supported my the company but made out of love by some devs working there? Netflix does not have an officially supported Linux native app. 3rd party and browser surely exists, but at that point I'm good. Discord works, but can be temperamental with some features from what I'm reading - especially hopping between desktop and console mode.

Yeah you lose out on a small dGPU, but those come with considerable tradeoffs - size, battery life, and cheapo build and even the form factor. For a lot of people, the product segment is cool because of the built in controller. And while the specs might not seem amazing head to head, pushing graphics on a smaller screen actually does make for better perceived visuals. 1080p low on a 15" display looks way worse on a more pixel dense 7" 1080p one IMO. $800 is a lot given the landscape, but it isn't the most unreasonable ask

I don't care about having Windows on a handheld because I've learned to enjoy Linux. I bought the Steam Deck to play my indie backlog. For AAA games, I'd rather use my PC with a large display. For that purpose, the Steam Deck's performance is sufficient. Lately, I've been using it more in desktop mode, docked to a 32:9 monitor for light gaming while watching KZbin videos, and the performance has been fine. While the ROG Ally X is cool, the Steam Deck meets all my needs, so I won't upgrade unless it stops working.

Considering the repairability, the price, the OS and that Asus hardware is not known for its quality (I have a gaming notebook from Asus... ). Seriously, for a handheld, repairability (that includes the official availability of original replacement parts to a fair price) should weigh 50% in the overall result. There is no way I'll go back to Windows. If a game does not run on Linux, so be it. There are enough other games available.

Note to every Linux user: The ROG Ally X DOESN'T have to be Windows 11 only. You can put this OS called Bazzite OS on there to make it more console-like, similar to the Steam Deck. If you want Windows 11 gone from handhelds, just put Bazzite OS on the Ally or Legion Go, or any Windows handheld, and you're good to go. :)
