You're absolutely right! Shopping on Amazon isn't the same as going to a toy store like Toys r Us. I'll miss it. It was a bit expensive for me but I did buy Barbie's from time to rime in the store. I bought my Angel of Peace Barbie there and several of the Barbie Fashion Avenue clothes line as well.

Nicely said. Thank you for sharing your sadness over the Toys R Us stores closing and your memories. It is the end of an era and I am not even someone who shopped there that much. I am older and they came to popularity in the 80's and 90's. So I wasn't taken there as a child. But when you become a Barbie and fashion doll collector in your adulthood, then all the stores that carry them locally become precious to you. Here in the States we had another chain of toy stores that closed in 2009 called KB Toys. I was so sad that they closed, since there is such fun in going to a toy store and seeing Barbies all lined up in their boxes with shelf display ads along with them. Looking at toys online just doesn't have that kind of fun and thrill of buying it in a local shop and taking it home that day. Why do kids want electronic toys over dolls and action figures? I am sure that if I had the choice of both today, and I was a child now, I would still want the dolls. A tech device is so boring and nothing compared to a shining new blonde Barbie in pink like the one you unboxed and shared. You know though, when vinyl record albums were supposedly replaced by cd's and gone for good in the 90's. Well, that proved to not be completely true. People have discovered a new love for the old vinyl records again and the new artists are putting out their new songs on vinyl because of the nostalgic demand. Who knows? It might not be likely, but dolls and toys might not be permanently gone. It might just be a trend or phase and they might come back years from now as a nostalgic thing of the past. Brought back because they were missed and appreciated in retrospect. One can only hope.

Great review! It is really sad hearing about ToysRus closing! We have Toys R Us in Israel and luckily its an independent contractor so it will remain open in my region. Unfortunately our local Toys R Us doesn’t carry half the Barbie linup and we receive products really late...for example we still only have the 2016 Fashionistas:(

I remember Toys R Us... such good memories and times there. I remember the one in the next city over closed when I was still a kid back between 2003-2006 (give or take) but the one that was further away was where we got toys. That and Target.

This is so sad!! I feel like if it wasn't as expensive it might have done better. And I don't think kids are AS interested in toys as they use to be. But it is depressing cuz I remember I use to go every friday, especially to pick up a new Bratz doll lol aw good times

When I was four and I lived up north, my Aunt and her girlfriend took me on a day out then at the end she was gonna take me to Toys R Us but ended up not, promising me they'd take me next time - don't think they did! I'm tempted to ask them to take me now, lol My friends went the other day and they picked me up Video Game Hero Barbie 30% off as I'm not gonna get chance to go to TRU for a while. I'm very sad TRU is closing down, at least we have Smyths (which is much cheaper anyway)

I’m kinda indifferent to the closing of Toys R Us, my family was really poor so we never went to any Toys R Us location. Also we lived in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere and the nearest town was 20 minutes away. We had to wake up at 6:00 am in order to get ready for the bus.

We have more than Toys R Us branches here in the Philippines. But the Toys R Us in our country is not a huge toystore just like Toys R Us in America or in United Kingdom. It is just so sad Toys R Us will be goodbye and closing, I don't know if our Toys R Us in our country will closing too. I dont know why it is closing now I just heard it is a bankruptcy issue. SO SAD

toys r us was just a huge warehouse of toys and yes i loved it but it wasnt like department stores toy departments , lewis s , fenwick , farnons , binns , debenhams , and all those other dept stores with magic displays toy promos from the mattels , playmobil , palitoy, pelham zapf and gotz if you were not a child of the 70s and 80s you really have no idea of the magic these stores created

Toys "R" Us was once a cool store to visit. It was also a place where i often heard my parents complaining about prices. i went to Toys "R" Us for the first time in 5 years last October and was completely underwhelmed. Even moreso than my last visit and i was high on ecstasy then. My love affair with that store began dying a slow death in the late 90s, when the quality of toys started going to shit. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Honestly, i miss Kiddie City and KB Toys.

Walmart is the new toy hub. I noticed over the last few years that even though Toys r us specialized in toys, they were the last to get many toy items. Walmart had many toy items in stock before Toys r us.
