Tackling the "To Do List" one item at a time and discovering that I never get as much done as what I'd hope. A day in the life of Dig Drive DIY.

The fact that you have a list and checked off a few items puts you way ahead of most people. I'm glad to see that plumbing takes you 3x longer than you planned and it's not just me. I'm interested to see the comments on mice. They get in my plow truck the minute I park it. Don't bother with moth balls because they chewed the bottom right out of a box of them I had sitting on the seat (and then chewed the seat). The only thing I've tried that works is the old fashion wood traps with a chocolate chip as bait. That said, no matter how many I catch there always seems to be more.
@digdrivediy2 жыл бұрын
Right! My argument is that the mouse traps just attract more mice. We use peanut butter and it works really well because oftentimes you'll catch one and it'll still be loaded for the next one. I just hate that you got to keep after him or they will start to stink if left to sit for a long time. Thanks so much for watching.

Good video Neil! My evening meal is dinner, but to my in-laws, dinner = lunch, and super is for dinner. It's a little gross but you could load up a few of those good ol' mouse "traps" to at least slow down the occupation. Come to think about it, how many traps would you need?

Your priorities are in the right order. No worries on the should do list as long as the must do’s get covered. I like this style of video, but you could cut the video time to 15 minutes over two hours of chores and that seems like it would be the right balance. Is that FREE stuff in the background near the end or just supplies for upcoming projects? 😀

I was worried it was much too long, so I appreciate that feedback. It was a bit of an experiment too. I wasn't prepared for the amount of footage that I was going to have after a full day! It is a Royal Stove model RS7400. Not sure on the BTUs off hand. It's supposed to heat up to 10,000 square feet and we are heating just over 7000. There's a video about it on here.

Thank you for getting back to me with the info! Thoroughly enjoy the videos. Funny enough found your channel looking up GT tractors. It’s something that my father and I spent time doing together and hoping to pass the bug on to my kids. We started with Ariens but love the JDs. As for the boiler we’re north of Boston about 60 miles and will be heating a 4K home and currently a 24x20 shop (hoping to go 40x60) in the next year. Looking at these seems the most logical with that kind of area and cost of heating oil. Crazy times usually brings out the resourceful and teaching the kids breaking a little sweat day to day is part of being family. Thanks again and looking forward to seeing the next project.

How much extra time do you think it takes you to accomplish something with having to stop and move / go get, the cameras? I’ve always wondered. I know this is two years old however, I used Bounce fabric softener in our pop up trailer to keep the mice out. We put a lot of them in and had no issues. Love your content.
@digdrivediy2 ай бұрын
Thanks a bunch! I have gotten more efficient at moving the cameras and filming while working, but with the filming efforts and the editing, I would say that each project takes about 2x as long as it normally would!
@seen482 ай бұрын
@@digdrivediy that’s a lot shorter than I thought with editing included, that’s pretty darn good. Speaking of editing (I can see where you start experimenting with things which is awesome) I watched a few more recent single topic videos and wow you are so good now and how you record it. Example watching you take a truck tire off, camera shot of you with the impact zipping the lugs off, next shot camera in the wheel well showing you take the tire off from the inside. Stuff like that is getting really awesome with your content and way more examples for sure. You should be proud.

Neil, another great video. Once again, a walk down memory lane. I can remember being out in the shop working on a project and turn around and see 3 little Indians staring at me and wanting me to change my priorities. Anything from getting the go carts started, even before I had a chance to start a lawn mower, to making a portable basketball hoop on wheels with adjustable height so you could pull it over to the neighbor boys and have a hard game of slam dunk and maybe even a set of num chucks (your mother wasn't happy about this one). As I think back now I can't remember the projects that I was working on, but I do remember the ones that came first. As to the name of meals, the noon meal has ways been dinner (and the last meal has always been the same as Jesus had., the last supper) Dad
@digdrivediy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dad. This is obviously where the influence comes from for me. I can remember all those times you've remembered, out there bugging you in the shop. I can also remember that everytime we got the first 1/2" of snow on the ground you were out there getting snowmobiles running cause we just couldn't wait. Until I figured out how to get them running on my own, in which case you'd get home from work on a snow day to a lot of fresh tracks in the yard! But, you always had time to build or fix or assist. Actually, you still do all that on a weekly basis! Thanks for that :) Supper of sure around here.

Neil, you never cease to amaze. I do have a suggestion/recommendation about your drain lines for your sump pump set up. Personally, I would have installed a one-way valve above the cutoff valve to keep water and whatever else from back flushing into the cutoff valve. Yes, I over think stuff too, just like my dad taught me. >>>Can't wait to see the new to you kitchen cabinets get installed! That's going to be a great set of videos! >>>It makes me kind of sad to know that "Brutus" will be giving up his "heart" as a donor for "Bill." I love both tractors and really don't want to see either of them down, but it isn't up to me and you have to do what is right in your situation. >>>The gas overflow.... Yeah, what can be said about that? Possibly have the overflow run into another tank below? I saw that you had two tanks there but what I don't know is if they are the same type of fuel or is one gas and the other is diesel. >>>Dude, night owl much? Sleep is kind of important so you don't forget little things, like keys, LOL! >>>Mice in the mini excavator.... Plug any holes into the cab with steel wool or spray foam insulation. >>>Unwanted raccoon visitors in the wood shed. Yeah, the tops of the walls aren't closed off so until you solve that little conundrum anything can take up temporary residence until the weather gets warmer. The dormers need to be closed off too. Hardware fabric is great for this unless you have scrap wood available. Installation is going to be a pain in the butt, but well worth it. Personally, I'd use both. Wood to close the dormers/tops of the walls and then cover all of it with the hardware fabric so they can't chew a new access hole to get in up there. The walls could use a covering of hardware fabric too for the same reason, after you have burned up all of the wood that's in the way. >>>Love the cats!!! I thought you only had the one pretty grey and white beauty. Oh well, the other two must get camera shy unless bribed with food. >>>So what if your videos are late! $h!t happens my friend. "Don't sweat the small stuff, because it's all small stuff."< direct quote from my hubby who is from Muncie, IN. >>>Time spent with the twins and family is always time well spent. I'm pretty sure you have figured this out, but here is a reminder anyway. Thanks for another great video! Talking to your camera "Off the Cuff" takes practice. No one get's that right the first few times attempted. Keep up the great work you do. P.S. Don't forget to change the oil in the dump truck and fill that fuel tank 🥰🥰

Hello from the Netherlands Koch Fam. i like this style of videos . I watch multiple channels with this kind of videos. among others the channel of Farmer P that might also be a channel for you? question : why not a check valve in the pipeline to the ditch ? if the water then gets too high, the check valve is pressed closed from the outside and it goes to your 2nd outlet and the whole system then runs independently, because if the water in the ditch drops again, the pressure of the check valve goes off automatically and pump the water through the 1st pipe to the ditch again. thanks for the video Neil . Day in the life videos are a lot of fun Neil. Never underestimate what you see as boring and mundane, not being truly interesting to others. What's the saying? "One persons junk is another's..."? Salient points: 1. Kara is boss. 2. When in doubt, see item 1. 3. That raccoon you are going to catch will make a perfect remedy for mouse eviction in the excavator. 4. Kara is boss. 5. Sushi and nachos? 6. Two episodes of "Little House"? (Dude, we gotta talk! ). Remember to set you clocks forward tonight as you are up editing videos again!!! (Right). Love home my brother and will be anxiously awaiting the next epic from Koch Productions!!!

I like the balance of work/family time. Ya gotta do both. BTW, dinner is at 12, supper is at 6 around here. Kids at school used to pick on me because of that. They had lunch boxes, I had a dinner bucket. Lol. Stay safe my friend.

My uncle always says "dinner bucket". Around here it is both lunch and dinner depending on who you're talking to.

My evening meal is supper! In my event I put those solid bate blocks in it. I can’t keep the mice out so I feed them! They exit for water, hemorage, and never come back! I’ve tried all the rest, Irish spring, dryer sheets, moth balls. Bait blocks work. They come in for 2 things, shelter and food. So I feed them!!
