I got my Thai Constellation in August 2023. It now has 5 beautiful fully fenestrated leaves, also the petioles are quite short. Never had any juvenile leaves! It is growing in pon and is attached to a long support pole. It pushes out a new leaf every 2-3 months, even in the winter! I read somewhere that you need to attach Monsteras to a support pole (doesn’t have to be a moss pole) to encourge leaf growth.

I didn’t fall for the Pink Princess hype, but last Fall I found one at Walmart on a cart of dying plants that were going to be thrown away. They sold it to me for $1. I washed the roots and repotted- had 2 good leaves and a few tattered ones. It has put out 2 new leaves for me, but not much pink at all. It’s in a West facing window. Thriving but just not exciting. But for one dollar, it has been a fun rehabilitation project.

I got my Thai constellation as a rooted top cutting - it was beyond well rooted (in a ~17cm pot, completely full of roots) and basically a normal plant in moss- and it had 3 ~30cm leaves for 40€. It's growing at a medium speed for me and is doing significantly better since I transferred it to Pon (I was quite rough with it as well - took a toothbrush to the roots to clean - to get the moss off the roots and it wasn't fazed at all). Then it got thrips, just like my normal monstera (which died due to thrips and winter lighting conditions) and it wasn't really bothered by them or my soapy water treatment. This plant is tough and not too expensive here in Germany, absolutely love it. I have a baby esqueletto as well and it's doing ok, slow growing but overall fine. It's in Pon and in a south facing window. I also have a mystery monstera - potentially an esqueletto - I'm not 100% sure because the leaves were all a bit crinkly before but the newest leaf is nice and smooth (which threw me off, because it came with crinkly leaves and produced crinkly leaves and now it's smooth. I thought it was just how it grows, but apparently not). And it's doing even better in the same conditions.

I bought a Pink Princess about 2 years ago, tiny plant with 3 small leaves. I got pink variegation quite fast (including one full pink leaf and one with a half completely pink), I attached it to a moss poll and the leaves instantly doubled in size, I still get pink spots and stripes on every leaf that comes out. And I’m wondering if it’s not been communicating with my Birkin which lives right next to it, because I got leaves with massive pink stripes on the Birkin :) It’s not the most thriving and fullest plant in my collection, not the fastest grower, but I would say that for me, the Pink Princess has been worth the hype!

I was gifted a pink princess and I would have given it away had it not been from a dear friend. My other regret plants are the white wizard, white princess and Stella calathea. I gave them all to friends and will never buy again. My Thai con grows like a weed, and has tons of variegation- so it’s been very enjoyable. However, if it didn’t have as much variegation, I’d probably not be as happy with it either.

I've been influenced to buy a few. The main one was the Phil Pink Princess. When I was able to get a decent sized one for $32, I decided to take the leap. Hated it. It grew really wonky and the leaves were constantly getting stuck. I gave it to someone who was excited about it. I was over it. I also bought a few syngoniums even though I am not really in to syngoniums. They got spindly looking, so now I only have my Milk Confetti left. Another three that I bought, but am really happy with are hoyas: Mathilde, Heuschkeliana Variegata, and Meredithii. Love them.

@@Julia-lg2on I had the same issue with Phil Silver Sword and one of the syngoniums that I got rid of. Sometimes I could get them unstuck without damaging the leaves, but often I didn't. It was frustrating and another reason that none of them are in my collection now.

It is nice to hear your opinion on these plants! 🪴 I still love the Pink Princess… A few years ago I bought a big (expensive) plant with the variegation that I wanted, it has been chopped and propped every year and then I keep the most variegated propagation and give the rest away. It works fine for me that way. I can imagine having a mostly “green” one can be disappointing (and they can be a bit finicky). If I want a plant for a specific trait, like variegation or large leaves (on a plant that grows slowly or is difficult to size up), I buy it big and with the traits that I want… even if it is more expensive, it will avoid the disappointment (unless the plant like dies) If I want a plant for the journey and it doesn’t matter what variegation it has or what size the leaves are…. I get a babyplant or a cutting 😊

I wonder if the Thai is slow growing because it was “man made”? I love mine and I am okay with it growing slower I don’t want all my plants getting to big I’ll run out of room! 😂 I have a pink princess she’s pretty and I am with you “it’s not worth the hype”. I cut her down and to make her bushy instead. I just sent up that video if you want to see what I did with it. Think it’s cool. My Thai, Syngonium Albo, Black Velvet, White Knight are very thirsty. I water them every 3 days? Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I got my Pink Princess as a gift from my husband in early 22. It seemed very expensive at $75. I still have it, but am thinking of chopping it. I grew it up a moss pole; chopped it once and combined the 2 parts. It does have nice pink varigation, but I am unable to get it to look even close to bushy. The leaves have sized up, but not significantly; and they still get stuck and are deformed to often. Not a pretty plant. I did notice that the photos of them are often taken from the top looking down which makes the plant look thicker. Also have a mylanocrysum that I haven't given up on, but I should. It is on a pole, still small, but the leaves are now able to unfurl. I also have a ty that I am happy with. It has doubled in size and so far has been easy. I might say that the albo has proven not so much. Got root rot, and may have to chop it up, which I am resisting. The leaves are wilting, but don't want to chop it. It is in a terrarium until I get up the nerve, I guess. The most expensive plant I have purchased. If it goes south, I will never get another, and be satisfied with my ty. I want to get a blue oil fern. I can get one local, but they are $70, and no, not for a slow grower like that.

The only advice I have for the Monstera Esqueleto (if you haven't gotten rid of it yet) is to def increase the light. I grew mine from a node that had a decent root system and for the longest time it did absolutely nothing just swelling of the node(this plant is sooo F-ING slow) After months and months it grew too small juvenile and mildly fenestrated leaves just like in the video and as I was about to give up she threw a nicely fenestrated leaf double in size and has been only increasing ever since. Now it still has a long way to go but it's absolutely gorgeous. So I'd suggest don't give up, they are so rewarding when they grow properly just up a light and keep it consistent+good feed (they also don't like too much light at all)
