I always liked that Lareth the Beautiful served the Spider Queen instead of a faction actually featured in the module; it’s kinda messy but is fertile ground for the imagination. The gurus at Goodman could weave a killer little gonzo side adventure out of that dangling plot thread. Great interview / product expose!

@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 Those who really dig it (inc. me) know we can sub and comment for the Almightly +5 Algorithm. 76k+ followers is nothing to scoff at. If you went heavy on trending, clickbaity nonsense you would undoubtedly get more views. But is that something you want to do? I doubt it. Your content is amazing. I would suggest you keep leaning in to what you have been doing, as counterintuitive as that may seem.

@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 The competition is getting crazy. I see new D&D video creators I’ve never heard of in my feed every week. No one expresses OSR values as clearly and cleanly you do, though. I hope you find a way back into the algorithm’s good graces.

Great episode, PDM. I played the original VoH back in the 80's but never got the chance to play through ToEE. I do have one suggestion if you do further interviews. To wit: If you have a guest I would suggest sitting at right angles to each other (imagine a triangle with each of you at one corner and the camera at the third point). This layout makes it easier for you to see and communicate with your guest but also allows your audience to see you both clearly. It makes for a more natural and comfortable setting for you, your guest, and your viewers.

I don't know how many times we played through the 1E version of this to start campaigns, followed by the Slavers Series, Against the Giants, and Queen of the Demon Webs. Of course, with how often we died or campaigns ended, I was like 100 ToEE starts, maybe 25 Slavers, 10 Against the Giants, and maybe twice we made it to Loth's actual plane. The dungeon crawl was a bit too much and the levels spread really hurt. It was a great starting location though. So classic.

“Above my paid grade” why designer gets to build something because the business guy said they could. The amount submitted was probably enough to drive one mad. If I could compare a designer to any race they would dwarves. Fortitude/constitution is what I admire about them the most, the ability to hear No so much and still put forth something on a yes with so much love in there design and the game. Something that wasn’t their first choice, just one of the many. Great Video! Great Insight!

Sounds great! Wish Goodman Games made these 5E reboots available as PDFs (I can imagine some of the technical reasons why they don't). I kinda need them that way for disability reasons. I've said before that the Professor's adaptation of Caves of Chaos to video (even if he now believes he could've done it better) is more useful to me than Goodman's B1/B2 adaptation. Fortunately most of Goodman Games' other products are available as PDF and they are excellent!

I had the idea to combine Sailors of the Starless Sea with the Village of Homlett, as if you look at that module you'll see it is perhaps loosely inspired by that module as the place of the 'moathouse' but obviously it is different, yet, you could take elements of the DCC module and combine with the Moathouse, so instead of bandits it might be 'beastmen' and there might be other elements you wish to weave into it. Plus, I will be using DCC rules to run Temple of Elemental Evil, not 5e so I want to DCCify the Temple of Elemental Evil.

One of my groups just finished playing a 5e conversion of the original "Temple," mostly over Zoom. It took exactly a year--and the players refused to go into the nodes (passing the Orb off to Velunan officials...). I cannot imagine how many adventures the new, fleshed out version will afford players! Even though we've finished, I'm buying--just to compare (and because Goodman Games is a quality publisher!). And I have to ask--did the new conversion add anything about the missing Elder Elemental God? And Chris Doyle is right: the Moathouse is such a classic dungeon (a meatgrinder for lvl. 1 characters--and also somehow connected to that sample dungeon in the original 1979 DMG).
