The difference in air quality in California is night and day compared to the 70's and 80's:even there are far more cars on the road today. The prominent you tuber that got fined. Well, the lawsuit was brought forth at the end of the Obama administration. He was fined under the first Trump administration. The regulations he ran a foul love were created under the Clinton administration and went into effect under the Bush administration. The motor in my sprinter van just died at under 150k due to the egr valve not dealing with idle time. It was a great motor that was the bane of my existence the entire time. owned it due to the emissions system. So, believe me When I say, I am with you. I wish we could legally delete these systems on our own personal vehicles. It could have saved my motor. The problem is that we will never get any of. These laws changed if we can’t fight with facts and stop blaming the “others”. Engines are much less polluting than in the past. The problem is that vehicles have gotten so much bigger and heavier that they require much more energy to move around, which results in fuel consumption not going down. It's not engineering, it is consumers (and governments) wanting bigger and heavier vehicles with lots of creature comforts and only marginally functional safety systems in the vehicle. Put jail time on using phones in the car (at all, even hands free), make driving without a license a felony, make insurance cover 2M damages and make insurances pay damages to people that are a victim of uninsured people like in many EU countries. Yes, if you are the victim of a hit and run, or of someone that isn't (sufficiently) insured, combined insurance companies have to pay your damages. They do that by charging a bit more and putting that money in a foundation that pays in these cases. Prohibit cars that are a danger to cyclists and pedestrians, make safety inspections federal and yearly. All of these will increase safety more than "lane assist", "adaptive cruise control" "reverse cameras" and all that rubbish.

I honestly think once a car is 10-15 years old, it should be exempt. I remember back in the day, anything before 1995 was exempt, which at the time was 10 years back and it was great. You bought anything old enough and you didnt have to worry about emissions. I recently sold a car I had because I just got sick of fixing the emissions, I spent like 2 grand and things kept breaking with emissions, sold it for basically nothing because of that. That car is probably going to end up in a junkyard as a result of that. They cause more harm to the environment by forcing old cars to be emissions complaint because people just junk the cars because it becomes too expensive compared to the value of the car. I'm from Chicago like April, so I totally know what she's talking about. Another thing with the emissions here, is they closed a majority of the emissions locations, I had one half a mile away, now i gotta drive 30 minutes to get to one. Kind of ridiculous that they can keep forcing us to do emissions but they don't have locations within a reasonable distance.

Electric vehicles are exempt from emissions testing in Illinois. Not even going to get into the technical issues ignored in this video but the big reason for adding DEF to diesels is that near the end of the 1990's people studying the causes of smog formation came to the conclusion that it was the emissions of oxides of nitrogen that were the limiting factor which is why 25 years of attacking smog by controlling hydrocarbons wasn't working. Diesel engines put out a lot more NOx than gasoline cars and the only way to control those emissions was by adding DEF to react with the NOx in the exhaust.

Georgia is not strict, just emissions in the Atlanta metro counties where Ed is. Get out of Atlanta and there are no emissions or safety inspections.

Where is the video of the diesel BMW?
@Scoots19943 сағат бұрын
The DPF not only clogs up, if you drive around town the computer will throw a bunch of diesel in to the DPF to bring the temperature up again, but that means fuel efficiency tanks.

The Def chemical itself is very nasty

But not environmentally hazardous, which is the point.

It’s piss if you didn’t know now you know
@NorthernChevСағат бұрын
@@Mrremusakajack It's not piss, although I absolutely believe you've been told that. I don't doubt that one bit. Although urine, specifically pig urine, contains a similar chemical compound found in DEF, AND the fact that German scientists initially used said pig urine to break down and develop the now completely NEW compound, DEF is def NOT piss. But I'm betting by your initial reply that you will continue, despite being wrong, saying that DEF is piss. Cheers.

Yes! Make diesels reliable again! Make it where we can have the diesels the rest of the world has. I'd love a Hilux diesel
@colinpryor65902 сағат бұрын
Here in Australia all the new Hilux diesels have the emission systems fitted. It comes down to the quality of the diesel and how long you drive them for and don't let them idle for a long time.
@juztyn002 сағат бұрын
@@colinpryor6590 Do you have to deal with DEF?
@colinpryor65902 сағат бұрын
@@juztyn00 depends on the manufacturer to what is on the vehicle to meet emissions. DEF is called AdBlue over here. The Hilux diesels doesn't have it yet. I worked for Scania truck for 25 years since the early 2000 we where dealing with that stuff. Biggest problem with the DEF system was the exhaust temperature not high enough or not enough load on the engine's and the catalytic converter would block up.

Major urban areas in all states are forced by the Feds to emission test. If testing isn't done funding for road maintenance is withheld.

Illinois is actually not super strict, it’s dependent on what county you are in. Most counties don’t have inspections. the farmers would definitely revolt if we did 😂
@NorthernChev4 сағат бұрын
It's mostly based on population density. The bigger the city, the more pollution you have from more trucks, etc. Requiring more regulation. It's a population density thing. It's the same almost nationwide for larger cities.

In my opinion, "balance" is one of the most beautiful words, next to "salvation". Unfortunately a few high profile KZbinrs have drawn attention to the issue by making dumb choices and videos thereof. Thanks for the correction Jake about rolling coal being more power. The government needs to get off of cars and realize that jet planes make much more pollution. Oh, but the politicians use jet planes. I get it. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇

I own a C7 Conv manual and a brandy new RAV 4 Prime XSE so I play both sides of fuel usage, driving, etc (well it's a '14 Vette with 20K miles) but giving up on diesel standards and other practices like cutting off CATS is just another nail which we don't need to fall prey to. So, how do you set that line to allow diesels to pollute, enthusiasts? Workers who need a diesel truck? How will you mandate/control that? Good luck.

I wouldn't have a problem with smog checks if the inspection consisted of putting a prob in the tailpipe and checking the emissions. They don't look or care what is under the hood as long as the tail pipe test passes for that make model and year of car or truck you get your smog certificate
@michaelmarkofski40733 сағат бұрын
yeah fl has no inspection at all and if you know someone in the towing business you can get a title for anything with a vin and then tag it unless it’s ever had a salvage title somewhere else then you have to get a dot inspection through fl highway patrol but it’s only a safety inspection and no emissions… then you get a regular fl title not a salvage title. That’s why insurance gets a certificate of destruction on “totaled cars “
