Rhett @ how you were saying how amazing it is that Link changed so quickly after getting a dog. My dad has always hated cats since I was a little kid, I've wanted one ever since I can remember and he wouldn't let me. When I was 16 I brought home a stray kitten that I found and my dad reluctantly let us look after it "until he was big enough to be released again". 7 years later, we kept the cat, my dad cradles this cat in his arms, talks to him in a baby voice, and even refers to him as his son.

And anxious dogs can be unpredictable. Positive reinforcement would be much better for both the dog and owner. It shouldn't fear barking in case of punishment, it should have a goal of not barking in those situations to get rewarded.

Kimberly Brouwers your generalizing all situations. What’s your suggesting if your dog barks all day when your gone in your backyard? Annoying and distracting your neighbors while your at work and unable to take care of it. Bark collar is a training tool, and can definitely help you train a dog on when and where barking is acceptable and unacceptable. Dogs don’t have the same morality as humans, just because it may seem cruel and abusive to humans. Dogs may not see it like that at all.
