"Vinaigrette" comes from "vinaigre", which is quite simply vinegar in French. So yeah, no "vinegarette" here ;) and vinegar comes from vinaigre, which comes from "vin aigre", that you can translate as "sour wine" :D so french all the way :)

Once you hit that far north its largely Inuit communities.... the answer is most likely yes and no...There are pockets of anglophone communities in quebec just as there are pockets of francophone communities within every other province..... but regardless Québec is largely french speaking and, by area, is the #1 largest province and, by population, second largest. So, it was just humorous that they called it a 'sliver'

Oh my gosh, I feel so much better now knowing it's not just me who's mixed up languages! I was learning German while overseas. I'd already learned the language of the country I was living in (Indonesian) and speaking it occasionally for about a year when I started learning German. I completely crossed the two languages in my head and don't always realize when I switch from one to another (which I felt really bad about) and thought it was just me because I couldn't find anyone else who'd had the same experience!
