That was beautiful. I wish you could teach how you do the fillers/riffs… even the general idea so one could try to learn how to play in similarly. But honestly, beautifully done.

Thanks for your kind words! I did give a very general explanation in a comment below, but I'll admit that it's something that I've been working on for a very long time and it's not super easy to explain. Nevertheless, here's what I told another commenter: Playing off a chord chart like the ones I use takes a bit of practice, as well as some knowledge of chord structure. Because I don't usually play melody when I'm singing the melody, it gives a lot of latitude for shaping chords in different modes. My left hand is using the same chord as the right but usually more simple. For example, I will always play the ROOT of the chord (which is the letter on my chart), unless there is an alternate bass note given. What that means is that if the chart says D/F#, I'll play F# as the bottom of the chord and then some variation of D and A (the other two notes of the D chord). As you get more comfortable, you can experiment with walking bass notes from one to the other or rolling the chords up like an arpeggio. I hope this isn't too confusing!

Hi, I love your playing and I love how you show the chords to play with this beautiful hymn. Keep up the good work. I have a question, I am a self learner in learning to play the keyboard. I am trying to figure things out on my own. Can you help me understand on how you decided what chords your left hand plays. I see there are chords mentioned on the sheet but I cannot get my brain wrapped around on what chord to play with the left hand and the right hand, given the sheet that you have.

Thanks for your kind words! I checked out your channel and you're coming along really well. :) Playing off a chord chart like the ones I use takes a bit of practice, as well as some knowledge of chord structure. The best thing to do is keep doing what you're doing! Practice, experiement, and ask questions! :)

@@beckyhall6275 Thank you! This helps a lot. The other day, I even paused your video a couple of times to catch your finger movements on specific chords and I understood the same. I am pretty novice and did not even make much of a progress but I haven't given up. I learnt was only EGBDF FACE & GBDFA ACEG and started to play. I found some books on the net and started with them. Now, I see how vast music is with Music Theory and everything. So, I am giving myself some time in learning and understanding things. Thank you again on responding, not many do when you ask questions. I appreciate your help.

Thanks for your encouragement! At that point I’m riffing on the A chord starting in the high E - kind of a rolling 2chord into another version of the A chord. It’s a fun thing to play around with 😊
