Among the hundreds of 78s my parents had was a whole collection of Leadbelly, so I was kinda raised on this song. Now that I'm a late-life beginning guitarist, not yet learning slide but plan to, this is a fabulous throw back/throw forward to hear this.

My grandmother's name was Irene. When my grandfather passed, this song was played at his memorial. I hadn't listened to it in a very long time. I didn't realize how emotional I would get listening to it again. My tears were bittersweet with love and loss. Thank you so very much for this beautiful rendition.

My family had a good friend, Terry Garland (RIP). He used to play an annual show at the local bar between Christmas and New Years. One of his favorite artists to cover was Leadbelly. Hearing this cover reminded me of the good times I had with my Dad and 4 uncles all leaning back against the bar, right elbows on the bar, draft beer in our left hands (yes we all stood in the same pose. we're blood relatives), mesmerized by the slow smooth moans and wails of the slide guitar. I think its time for a family reunion. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
