Mereuem and Gon in this arc were parallel lines. Notice how they never met or even interacted once, and their journeys were complete opposites. At the start Meruem was a monster and Gon was a human but it slowly shifted until the roles reversed. Masterful writing by Togashi

When Komugi first mentioned “Kokoriko”, she described it as “her child”. Seeing the King come up with it and her having to beat it again was “like seeing her child come back to life”. In this episode, when she uses Kokoriko, Meruem reverses it, she gets out of it again, and Meruem once more finds an answer, it’s like them both coming up with “a child”. A new child, created by the both of them. That’s why she cries. She’s as happy as can be, having created a new “child” with Meruem. And another note, that I imagine someone else will inevitably mention: when Komugi says “I may not be worthy, but please accept me at your side”, the phrasing she uses in Japanese is a traditional way for a Bride to accept a marriage proposal.

There's actually an even deeper meaning of the whole "she reversed my reversal"-scene. The technique that Komugi invented, Kokoriko, was a technique which revolves around the idea of isolating the King piece from the other pieces and killing it off. As you might see, it mirrors what happens in the invasion perfectly. Kokoriko is literally the Hunters plan, isolate the King from the Royal Guards and kill him.Before Komugi figured out how to counter the move, it was basically a guaranteed way to kill the King. Then, after another player used Kokoriko against her, she figured out how to counter it. Komugis ability to counter Kokoriko meant that the King piece actually wasn't guaranteed to die, mirroring how in the story Komugis influence to the King and from there the King's newfound humanity meant that the King wasn't actually guaranteed to get killed. He could have been spared. But, unfortunately in these final moments, Komugi managed to reverse the counter for Kokoriko, which meant that Kokoriko was actually once again pretty much a guaranteed way to kill the King, which meant that in the story the King had to die as well, from the poison of the Rose.

The point of the Diego scene is that just like Meruem relinquished his status of supreme king, so did Diego 30 years before him. They both realized that even if they were born in the position and meant to rule, they found real value in something else, something much simpler. On top of that, Diego is really just Kim Jong Il, who was as well rumored to be a look-alike back in the 2000s.

They actually noticed that, when he was asking if she's still there they said "he can't see her." it's really cool since not many reactors catch that!

The scene where Meruem remembered Komugi and regained his humanity (if it can be called that) is by far my favorite scene in the entire series. Really all my favorite scenes include Meruem as he's my favorite character. I'm a major sucker for redemption arcs, and his was perfect.

Another great detail was that the king initially always told his underlings that he wil not repeat himself, where in this episode, he continually repeats himself.
